        최창근,최인영,홍용기,Choi, Chang-Geun,Chowdhury, M.T.H.,Choi, In-Young,Hong, Yong-Ki 한국해양학회 2010 바다 Vol.15 No.3

Marine algal flora and community structure were investigated at four sites in Kijang area on the southern east coast of Korea in August 2006 and August 2009, respectively. A total of 54 seaweeds including 6 green, 10 brown, 38 red were collected and identified. Of 54 seaweeds, 35 species were found throughout the survey period. Mean biomass in wet weight was from $616.0\;g\;m^{-2}$ to $1,462.4\;g\;m^{-2}$2 in 2006, and $354.8\;g\;m^{-2}$ to $965.6\;g\;m^{-2}$ in 2009. Maximum biomass was recorded at Mundong site, and minimum was recorded at Seoam (2006) and Dongbaek (2009) sites. The flora investigated (2006, 2009) could be classified into six functional groups such as coarsely branched form (58.7%, 58.1%), thick leathery form (10.9%, 11.6%), filamentous form (13.0%, 9.3%), crustose form (6.5%, 9.3%), sheet form (6.5%, 7.0%) and jointed calcareous form (4.3%, 4.7%) during survey period. The R/P, C/P and (R+C)/P values reflecting flora characteristics were 4.00, 0.75 and 4.75 at 2006, and 5.17, 1.00 and 6.17 at 2009, respectively. Therefore, the number of marine algae species and biomass in Kijang area were similar when they were comparing with the previous data. It suggest that any changes of seaweed diversity have not been observed in Kijang coastal area before and after the anthropogenic construction between 2006 and 2009.

Experimental Pathogenesis of Pullorum Disease with the Local Isolate of Salmonella enterica serovar. enterica subspecies Pullorum in Pullets in Bangladesh

        M. G. Haider,E. H. Chowdhury,M. A. H. N. A. Khan,M. T. Hossain,M. S. Rahman,송희종,M. M. Hossain 한국가금학회 2008 韓國家禽學會誌 Vol.35 No.4

The research work was carried out to study the pathogenesis covering the clinical signs, gross and histopathological lesions in different organs, and reisolation and identification of the organisms after experimental infection with the local isolate of Salmonella enterica serovar. enterica subspecies (S.) Pullorum at different time interval of the experiment during the period February 2006 to December 2006. One hundred pullets (seronegative to S. Pullorum of 12 weeks age were purchased and divided into 5 (A, B, C, D and E) groups and each group consisted of 20 birds. Four groups (A, B, C and D) were infected orally with a dose of 106 CFU, 107 CFU, 2 × 107 CFU, 108 CFU of S. Pullorum, respectively, and one group (E) was treated as uninfected control. The used methods were necropsy and histopathology, culture of bacteria, staining and biochemical test of Salmonella. Five birds from each group were randomly selected and sacrificed 1st week, 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of post infection (PI). From all the groups, the bacteriological samples (crop, liver, lung, heart, spleen, bile duodenum, ceca and blood) were collected with pre enriched in buffered peptone water in sterile poly bags. Liver, lungs, heart, spleen, intestine, etc. were collected in 10% buffered-formalin for histopathological examination. No clinical signs, gross and histopathological lesions were found in control group and no S. Pullorum was reisolated. Clinical sign of experimentally infected with S. Pullorum in pullets were loss of appetite (100%), slight depression (75%), ruffled feathers (85%), diarrhea (60%) and loss of weight (100%) in chickens. The feed intake and body weight at different weeks after PI differed significantly (p<0.01) among the groups. Grossly, the highest recorded lesion was button-like ulcer in the ceca (80%) and the lowest was white nodules in lungs (1.25%). S. Pullorum were reisolated from crop (91.25%), liver (91.25%), lung (83.75%), heart (71.25%), spleen (87.75%), bile (33.25%), duodenum (92.50%), ceca (97.50%) and from different group of infection (61.25%). The highest microscopic findings were intestinal and cecal mucosa and submucosa exhibited infiltration of mononuclear cells and congestion (96.25%), and the lowest finding was nodule formation in the lungs (3.75%). The pattern of the disease production by local isolate of S. Pullorum in Bangladesh is almost similar with other isolates in different countries. A physics-based analytical model for bulk heterojunction organic solar cells incorporating monomolecular recombination mechanism

        M.M. Chowdhury,M.K. Alam 한국물리학회 2014 Current Applied Physics Vol.14 No.3

We present an analytical model for bulk heterojunction organic solar cells incorporating the physics of recombination in the transport equations. Monomolecular recombination process is considered to be the dominant mechanism and treated explicitly. The proposed analytical model shows good agreement with the experimental data as well as with the numerical simulations. The improvements over the previous models are also presented to show the importance of considering the recombination process. The model can be used to find device characteristics such as currentevoltage characteristic, efficiency etc. of bulk heterojunction organic solar cells avoiding the mathematical complexities of numerical models.

      • Supplementation of lycopene in maturation media improves bovine embryo quality in vitro

        Chowdhury, M.M.R.,Choi, B.H.,Khan, I.,Lee, K.L.,Mesalam, A.,Song, S.H.,Xu, L.,Joo, M.D.,Afrin, F.,Kong, I.K. Butterworths, etc ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2017 Theriogenology Vol.103 No.-

This study sought to modulate factors that reduce embryo quality in in vitro culture (IVC) systems. Over eight replicates, 3075 oocytes were cultured in in vitro maturation media containing various concentrations of lycopene, followed by in vitro fertilization and culture. The percentages of MII-stage oocytes, the presumptive zygotes that underwent cleavage and developed into blastocysts were significantly (P < 0.05) higher, the intracellular ROS concentrations reduced significantly (P < 0.05) in oocytes/blastocysts, TUNEL assay demonstrates reduced apoptosis and increased total cell number per blastocyst (P < 0.05), Immunocytochemistry confirmed that diminished protein expression of nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2), and 8-oxoguanine (indicated by ROS) and relative mRNA expression of the Caspase-3, NFκB, COX2, iNOS and BCL2-associated X (BAX) was significantly (P < 0.05) lower whereas the anti-apoptotic gene BCL2 was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in the 0.2 μM lycopene-supplemented group than the control. In conclusion, lycopene improves blastocyst quality by overcoming unfavorable conditions in in vitro culture systems.

A total 930 outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) were recorded in Bangladesh from 1988 to 1991. Number of FMD outbreaks was recorded highest in Rajshahi division (304) followed by Dhaka (272), Khulna (203) and Chittagong (151). During 1988 to 1991, FMD outbreaks reached in peak level in 1990 (540) followed by 1989 (209), 1988 (95) and 1991 (86). Outbreaks though occurred throughout the year were higher in premonsoon and winter seasons. Morbidity rate was found significantly higher (p<0.01) in cattle (35.5%) than buffaloes (23.3%) and sheep/goats (4.8%). Of the cattle, bull/bullock infected more (p<0.01) than cows and calves. Morbidity rate in different animals was observed significantly higher (p<0.01) in Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions than in Khulna and Chittagong. Mortality specially in calves was found at the rate of 50.9%. Loss in milk yield was found to be 66.6%. Disease period for a FMD affected cattle varied from 16 to 26 days (average 22.7 days). Loss of working days per working cattle ranged from 14 to 24 days (average 21.2 days) and the loss in draft energy per cattle was found to be 12.7 to 18.9 KW hour.

ACUTE INFECTIOUS BURSAL DISEASE IN CHICKENS : PATHOLOGICAL OBSERVATION AND VIRUS ISOLATION

        Chowdhury, E.H.,Islam, M.R.,Das, P.M.,Dewan, M.L.,Khan, M.S.R. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1996 Animal Bioscience Vol.9 No.4

Pathological and virological investigations were conducted on suspected outbreaks of infectious bursal disease (IBD) in a broiler farm and five pullet-raising poultry farms of Mymensingh and Tangail districts of Bangladesh. About 80 to 100 percent chicks were affected at the age of 26 to 45 days and mortality varied from 20 to 30 percent in broilers and 40 to 80 percent in layer chicks. Signs, symptoms, gross and microscopic lesions were typical of acute IBD. Several isolates of virus could be obtained by embryo inoculation and the virus was diagnosed as infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) by agar gel immunodiffusion test (AGID). The virus isolate belonged to the very virulent pathotype of IBDV causing 100 percent mortality in three weeks old chicks on experimental infection.

EFFECT OF VARIETY ON YIELD AND NUTRITIVE VALUE OF RICE STRAW

        Chowdhury, S.A.,Majid, M.A.,Huque, K.S.,Islam, M.,Rahman, M.M. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1995 Animal Bioscience Vol.8 No.4

Seven varieties of rice were cultivated in the field of BLRI of which three were native (Maloti, Nizershail and Chandrashail) and four were improved ($BR_3$, $BR_{11}$, Pasam and Mala). Yields of straw and grain were recorded and the chemical composition of straw was determined. Both the grain (p < 0.05) and straw (p > 0.05) yields were higher in the improved than the native varities. Relationships of straw dry matter yield with the hights of rice plants, tiller numbers, levels of N fertilizer and lengths of stover were found to be statistically insignificant. No significant differences were observed among the varieties in respect of NDF, cell soluble, cellulose and hemicellulose contents. However, modified acid detergent fibre and insoluble ash content were significantly (p < 0.05) higher in the local varieties. Except $BR_3$, the estimated ME content of straw was higher in the improved than the native varieties. In respect of yield, chemical composition and energy content improved straws were better and Pasam was the best.
