      • Is Colorectal Cancer A Western Disease? Role of Knowledge and Influence of Misconception on Colorectal Cancer Screening among Chinese and Korean Americans: A Mixed Methods Study

Lu, Xiaoxiao,Holt, Cheryl L,Chen, Julia C,Le, Daisy,Chen, Jingjing,Kim, Gil-yong,Li, Jun,Lee, Sunmin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.11

Background: Chinese and Korean Americans have lower colorectal cancer (CRC) screening rates than other racial/ ethnic groups, which may be explained by a low level of CRC knowledge and a high level of misconceptions. This study explores the role of knowledge in CRC screening among these groups. Methods: Chinese (N=59) and Korean (N=61) Americans older than 50 were recruited from the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. They completed a detailed survey and participated in focus groups to discuss their knowledge on CRC and CRC screening. Seventeen physicians, community leaders, and patient navigators participated in key informant interviews. Using a mixed methods approach, data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Results: Participants lacked knowledge about CRC and CRC screening. More than half did not know that screening begins at age 50 and there are several types of tests available. More than 30% thought CRC screening was not necessary if there were no symptoms or there was nothing they could do to prevent CRC. Focus group findings suggested understanding about CRC was limited by an inadequate source of linguistically and culturally relevant health information. For example, many participants considered CRC a western condition mainly caused by unhealthy diet. This led to under-estimations about their susceptibility to CRC. Knowledge was positively associated with self-reported screening. Participants who had higher knowledge scores were more likely to report ever having had a colonoscopy and confidence in ability to have CRC screening. Conclusions: Mixed-methods analysis provides multi-faceted perspectives on CRC knowledge and its influence on screening. Study findings can help inform interventions to increase CRC screening among Chinese and Korean Americans.

Electronic structure and optical properties for blue phosphorene/ graphene-like GaN van der Waals heterostructures

        Jingjing Guo,Zhongpo Zhou,Tianxing Wang,Zhansheng Lu,Zongxian Yang,Chang Liu 한국물리학회 2017 Current Applied Physics Vol.17 No.12

In this paper, first-principle calculations based on density functional theory are carried out to explore the interface properties of the blue phosphorene/graphene-like GaN van der Waals heterostructures. The edge positions for valence and conduction band of blue phosphorene and graphene-like GaN nanosheets change with the Fermi energy level and form the type-II heterostructure. The internal electric field facilitates the separation of electronhole pairs and restrained the carrier recombination in the blue phosphorene/graphene-like GaN interfaces.

Imperatorin Sustained-release Tablets: In Vitro and Pharmacokinetic Studies

        Jingjing Pan,Wen Lu,Changhui Li,Sicen Wang,Langchong He 대한약학회 2010 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.33 No.8

We prepared and evaluated imperatorin (IMP) sustained-release tablets. IMP is an active compound in Angelica dahuricae, a Chinese herbal medicine. We used different polymers, such as hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC K4M, K15M, and K100M), carbopol 934P, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-Na), and their combinations to prepare the matrix tablets and achieve the desired sustained release profile. The in vitro release profiles of these formulations were examined and fit to various kinetic release models. We also tested the effects of polymer combination ratios on the in vitro release rate. In vivo studies were performed for the optimized formulation in six beagle dogs, and pharmacokinetic parameters were compared with plain IMP tablets. IMP sustained-release tablets exhibited a more sustained plasma concentration than the plain tablets, with a relative bioavailability of 127.25%. The in vitro releases rates and in vivo absorption correlated for the initial 8 hours. These results demonstrate that the sustained-release tablet system can effectively control the release of IMP.

Preparation of PAN/GO composite nanofiber membrane for oil-containing wastewater treatment

        Lu Tong,Zhang Qingxia,Yang Jingjing,Xin Yue,Zhang Zhilei,Hu Lingye,Hu Jing,Qin Qin,Yang Hao 한국탄소학회 2024 Carbon Letters Vol.34 No.1

The discharge of industrial oily wastewater and oil spill accidents has resulted in significant environmental pollution, creating an urgent need for the treatment of oily wastewater. Nanofiber membranes, known for their high stability, flux, and efficiency, are widely employed in oil–water separation. This study systematically compared the performance of polyacrylonitrile/graphene oxide (PAN/GO) composite nanofiber membranes prepared through immersion and electrospinning methods for oily wastewater treatment. Experimental findings demonstrated that immersion-prepared membranes achieved high flux (772.9 ± 2.9 L·m−2·h−1, n-hexane/water mixture) and efficiency (98.8%) at a GO concentration of 1.0 g/mL. On the other hand, electrospinning-prepared membranes exhibited superior flux (1500.3 ± 4.4 L·m−2·h−1, n-hexane/water mixture) and efficiency (99.6%) at a higher GO concentration (1.5 g/mL). This membrane displayed excellent stability, maintaining their exceptional performance even after ten cycles of separation. This study compared the advantages and disadvantages of the two methods for preparation of PAN/GO composite nanofiber membrane, offering valuable guidance for practical applications.

Facile Preparation of Holey Anderson-type Polyoxometalate/Polyaniline/Graphene Nanocomposites for Supercapacitors

        Jingjing Lin,Song Yan,Xiaojie Zhang,Yueran Liu,Jun Lian,Hualin Lin,Wei Wei,Deli Lu,Sheng Han 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2019 NANO Vol.14 No.4

Holey Fe-Anderson-type polyoxometalate/polyaniline/graphene (PPG) hybrid materials were first prepared by anchoring Anderson-type polyoxometalates [FeMo6O24H6]3- (FeMo6) onto graphene modified with polyaniline via a facile hydrothermal treatment. The as-prepared materials exhibited an excellent electrochemical performance with a high specific capacitance of 1366 F g -1 at 1 A g -1 and outstanding cycling stability (97.6% capacitance retention after 5000 cycle times). The uptake of polyaniline/FeMo6 nanoparticles on graphene not only provided the pseudocapacitance but also weakened the aggregation between the graphene layers, resulting in a higher surface area compared with pure graphene. In addition, the AC//PPG-15 asymmetric supercapacitor device showed a high energy density of 24.65 W h kg -1 at a low power density of 326.25 W kg -1 and good cycling stability (94.82% capacitance retention after 5000 cycles). Hence, the as-prepared PPG hybrid materials in this work possess tremendous potential as electrodes for high-performance supercapacitors.

Amino ionic liquids-modified magnetic core/shell nanocomposite as an efficient adsorbent for dye removal

Jingjing Cheng,Lijuan Shi,Jianjun Lu 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.36 No.-

Amino ionic liquids modified superparamagnetic mesoporous core/shell nanocomposite (Fe3O4@n-SiO2@mSiO2@DHIM-NH2) was synthesized to remove orange II and amaranth from water. Due to themultiple active sites of the introduced ionic liquids, the adsorbent presents superior adsorptionperformance and instantaneous adsorption capacity. The maximum adsorption capacities are reached atpH 2 due to the protonation of amino groups, which are 153.06 and 84.40 mg g 1 for orange II andamaranth, respectively. The good stability, rapid adsorption kinetics, large adsorption capacity, and highseparation efficiency make Fe3O4@nSiO2@mSiO2@DHIM-NH2 an efficient adsorbent for removinganionic contaminant from water.

Coupling Effect Diagnoses of Quasi-Stationary Mesoscale Vortex in Guangxi Rainstorm Process of China

        Jingjing Ge,Hancheng Lu,Wei Zhong 한국기상학회 2011 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.47 No.1

The mesoscale weather system which affected the Guangxi flash-flood-producing rainstorm of China in June 2008 is a quasistationary mesoscale vortex. Its genesis and development is closely related to the coupling effects of weather systems in different scales and different latitudes. On the one hand, the coupling of synoptic scale high- and low-level jets provides the environmental conditions for development of vortices and vertical circulations in the mesoscale vortex; On the other hand, the coupling of waves in mid-latitude westerlies and perturbations in low-latitude warm-moist flow under the influence of complex terrain makes the mesoscale vortex circulations strengthened. With the piecewise potential vorticity (PV) inversion method, PV anomalies in different regions are analyzed; also the vortex-vortex interactions and vortex-background flow interactions are diagnosed. Thus, the reasons why the mesoscale is quasi-stationary at first, while developing and deepening later are indicated. Under the condition of coupling effects, the vertical motions accompanied with the mesoscale vortex can be diagnosed with the PV-ω inversion system based on the analysis of quasi-balanced flow.

Ab Initio Study of Mechanism of Forming Spiro-Ge-Heterocyclic Ring Compound From C2Ge=Ge: and Formaldehyde

Lu, Xiuhui,Li, Yongqing,Ming, Jingjing Korean Chemical Society 2013 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.34 No.12

The $H_2Ge=Ge:$ and its derivatives ($X_2Ge=Ge:$, X = H, Me, F, Cl, Br, Ph, Ar${\ldots}{\ldots}$) is a new species. Its cycloaddition reactions is a new area for the study of germylene chemistry. The mechanism of the cycloaddition reaction between singlet state Cl2Ge=Ge: and formaldehyde has been investigated with CCSD(T)//MP2/$6-31G^*$ method. From the potential energy profile, it could be predicted that the reaction has only one dominant reaction pathway. The reaction rule presented is that the two reactants first form a fourmembered Ge-heterocyclic ring germylene through the [2+2] cycloaddition reaction. Because of the 4p unoccupied orbital of Ge: atom in the four-membered Ge-heterocyclic ring germylene and the ${\pi}$ orbital of formaldehyde forming a ${\pi}{\rightarrow}p$ donor-acceptor bond, the four-membered Ge-heterocyclic ring germylene further combines with formaldehyde to form an intermediate. Because the Ge: atom in intermediate hybridizes to an $sp^3$ hybrid orbital after transition state, then, intermediate isomerizes to a spiro-Ge-heterocyclic ring compound via a transition state. The research result indicates the laws of cycloaddition reaction between $H_2Ge=Ge:$ and formaldehyde, and laid the theory foundation of the cycloaddition reaction between $H_2Ge=Ge:$ and its derivatives ($X_2Ge=Ge:$, X = H, Me, F, Cl, Br, Ph, Ar${\ldots}{\ldots}$) and asymmetric ${\pi}$-bonded compounds, which is significant for the synthesis of small-ring and spiro-Ge-heterocyclic compounds. The study extends research area and enriches the research content of germylene chemistry.
