Influence of Kluyveromyces marxianus on proteins, peptides, and amino acids in Lactobacillus-fermented milk

        Dong-Dong Zhang,Jing-Lan Liu,Tie-Min Jiang,Lu Li,Guo-Zhen Fang,Yan-Pin Liu,Li-Jun Chen 한국식품과학회 2017 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.26 No.3

With increasing application of yeast in fermented milk, in order to study the effect of yeast on milk protein during the fermentation process, the effects of the presence of Kluyveromyces marxianus in milk fermented by Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus were investigated. After fermentation, the amino acid, protein, and peptide contents were analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography, two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry, respectively. After the addition of K. marxianus for fermentation, 25 protein spots changed significantly. These were mostly caseins and bovine serum proteins, and the content of total free amino acids increased by 16.30%; ten types of bioactive peptides were identified. Furthermore, the number of peptide types in milk fermented by K. marxianus increased significantly compared with milk fermented by Lactobacillus. K. marxianus is considered to promote proteometabolism in milk when added with Lactobacillus, generate flavor compounds, and improve the digestion and absorption character of milk.

Evolution and trends in intelligent tutoring systems research: a multidisciplinary and scientometric view

        Guo, Lu,Wang, Dong,Gu, Fei,Li, Yazheng,Wang, Yezhu,Zhou, Rongting 서울대학교 교육연구소 2021 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.22 No.3

Intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) are a promising integrated educational tool for customizing formal education using intelligent instruction or feedback. In recent decades, ITSs have transformed teaching and learning and associated research. This study examined the evolution and future trends of ITS research with scientometric methods. First, a dataset comprising 1173 relevant publications was compiled from the Web of Science Core Collection databases (including the Science Citation Index Expanded and the Social Science Citation Index). Then, the publication distributions by time, author, institution, country/ region, and knowledge sources were analyzed to reveal the multidisciplinary integration paths. Dataset co-occurrence and co-citation analyses were conducted to identify the most popular research issues, the research chronology, and the emerging trends. It was found that: (a) ITS research has been growing in recent years. According to the Price literature exponential growth curve, this feld is still in its initial stage while has high potential; (b) computer science, education, psychology, and engineering were the main ITS research knowledge sources, with ITS social science publications since 2007 being higher than ITS natural sciences publications; (c) interactive learning environments, student modeling, teaching/learning strategies, and machine learning have been the most popular research foci; and (d) the Coh-Metrix, problem-centered instruction, and STEM are the current research trends.

Isolation and Preliminary Identification of a Novel Microorganism Producing Aspartame from Soil Samples

        Jian Dong Cui,Ya Nan Zhang,Gui Xia Zhao,Shi Ru Jia,Guo Qun Zhao,Si Zhang,Jun Lu 한국식품과학회 2010 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.19 No.2

To develop a new method for producing aspartame (APM), a simple and efficient strategy for the isolation of certain microorganisms producing APM from soil samples was designed. A newly strain with secreting certain specific dipeptidase to directly synthesize APM from the substrates of L-aspartic acid (L-Asp) and Lphenylalanine methyl ester (L-PM) without protection for amino acid side chains was screened from soil samples. APM concentration in reaction mixture was quantified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), yield reached 0.015 g/L. Examination of the general morphological characteristics and data from the sequence analysis of the rDNA-ITS gene led to identification of the isolate as a strain of fungal endophyte spp. The newly isolated strain had a high potential for application in industrial processes for APM production. In particular, this new method was low cost for synthesis of APM during the reaction due to avoiding protection for amino acid side chains and optical resolution of the mixtures. As we known it, this is first report that a newly strain with a high potential for selective synthesis of the APM was isolated from soil.

Determination of Fluoride Concentration in Antarctic Krill (Euphausia superba) using Dielectric Spectroscopy

        Jianfeng Lu,Lina Qi,Wen Guo,Yishan Song,정용안,Yu‐dong Cheng,Yinzhe Jin 대한화학회 2015 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.36 No.6

The concentration of fluoride in Antarctic krill (Euphausia superb) was investigated using a coaxial probe method based on dielectric properties in the 0.3–10 GHz frequency range. A quantitative relationship between the fluoride concentration in the aqueous solution and the dielectric loss at 0.3 GHz was also established with a regression coefficient over 0.98. The concentrations of fluoride in fresh and dried krill samples with different krill positions, such as shell and meat, were determined. The detected value agrees well with that determined using other methods, such as fluoride ion-selective electrode (ISE) and potassium permanganate titration (PPT). The fluoride concentrations in fresh krill were 0.0127, 0.0133, and 0.0152 mg/mL using dielectric spectroscopy, PPT, and ISE, respectively. These results show that the proposed dielectric loss technique is suitable and effective for determining fluoride content in Antarctic krill.

Association between Fecal Bile Acids and Colorectal Cancer: A Meta-analysis of Observational Studies

        Jin Lu Tong,Jun Shen,Guo Quan Fan,Shu Dong Xiao,Zhi Hua Ran 연세대학교의과대학 2008 Yonsei medical journal Vol.49 No.5

Purpose: To provide a systematic review with meta-analysis for addressing the relationship between fecal bile acids (FBAs) and colorectal cancer. Materials and Methods: Electronic databases were searched for all observational studies that examined the relationship between FBAs and colorectal cancer or adenoma, and calculated weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Publication bias was assessed with funnel plot. Results: Twenty case-control or cohort studies were identified. All studies were pooled to assess the relationship between total FBAs and cancer/adenoma of the large bowel, however, no association was seen (WMD 0.61mg/g freeze-dried feces; 95% CI: -0.35-1.57). Significantly increased concentration of chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) was seen while pooling to assess the relationship between CDCA and cancer/adenoma of the large bowel (WMD 0.13 mg/g freeze-dried feces; 95% CI: 0.01-0.25), especially for colorectal cancer (WMD 0.28mg/g freeze-dried feces; 95% CI: 0.10-0.46). However, no significant differences in deoxycholic acid (DCA), lithocholic acid (LCA), and primary and secondary bile acids, were seen between patients with cancer and patients with matched controls regardless of fixed and random effects models. Conclusion: CDCA might play a role in the etiology of colorectal cancer.

Profiles of Bacillus spp. Isolated from the Rhizosphere of Suaeda glauca and Their Potential to Promote Plant Growth and Suppress Fungal Phytopathogens

        ( Ping Lu ),( Ke Jiang ),( Ya-qiao Hao ),( Wan-ying Chu ),( Yu-dong Xu ),( Jia-yao Yang ),( Jia-le Chen ),( Guo-hong Zeng ),( Zhou-hang Gu ),( Hong-xin Zhao ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2021 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.31 No.9

Members of the genus Bacillus are known to play an important role in promoting plant growth and protecting plants against phytopathogenic microorganisms. In this study, 21 isolates of Bacillus spp. were obtained from the root micro-ecosystem of Suaeda glauca. Analysis of the 16S rRNA genes indicated that the isolates belong to the species Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus velezensis, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, Bacillus aryabhattai and Brevibacterium frigoritolerans. One of the interesting findings of this study is that the four strains B1, B5, B16 and B21 are dominant in rhizosphere soil. Based on gyrA, gyrB, and rpoB gene analyses, B1, B5, and B21 were identified as B. amyloliquefaciens and B16 was identified as B. velezensis. Estimation of antifungal activity showed that the isolate B1 had a significant inhibitory effect on Fusarium verticillioides, B5 and B16 on Colletotrichum capsici (syd.) Butl, and B21 on Rhizoctonia cerealis van der Hoeven. The four strains grew well in medium with 1-10% NaCl, a pH value of 5-8, and promoted the growth of Arabidopsis thaliana. Our results indicate that these strains may be promising agents for the biocontrol and promotion of plant growth and further study of the relevant bacteria will provide a useful reference for the development of microbial resources.

      • The miR-146a rs2910164 G > C Polymorphism and Susceptibility to Digestive Cancer in Chinese

        Wu, Dong,Wang, Fan,Dai, Wei-Qi,He, Lei,Lu, Jie,Xu, Ling,Guo, Chuan-Yong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.1

Background: Several studies have reported the role of the miR-146a rs2910164 G > C polymorphism as a susceptibility factor for several digestive cancers. However, the results have been controversial. Therefore, we conducted the present meta-analysis to obtain the most reliable estimate of the association. Methods: PubMed, Embase and Web of Science databases were searched. Crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were extracted and pooled to assess the strength of the association between miR-146a rs2910164 G > C polymorphism and digestive cancer risk. A total of four eligible studies including 3,447 cases and 5,041 controls based on the search criteria were included. Results: We observed that miR-146a rs2910164 G > C polymorphism was not significantly correlated with digestive cancer risks when all studies were pooled into the meta-analysis. While we found that miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism was not associated with gastric cancer, it was significantly linked with hepatocellular cancer risk (the homozygote codominant model: OR = 1.40, 95% CI = 1.04-1.87). In the stratified analysis by ethnicity, significant associations were observed in Chinese population for the allele contrast model (OR = 1.25; 95% CI = 1.12-1.38), for the homozygote codominant model (OR = 1.62; 95% CI = 1.28-2.04), and for the recessive model (OR = 1.38; 95% CI = 1.16-1.64). However, studies with Asian groups presented no significant association for all genetic models. Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests that the miR-146a rs2910164 G > C polymorphism is a low-penetrant risk factor for digestive cancers in Chinese.

Flame Braze between Aluminum Alloy 5A06 and Low Carbon Steel Q235

        Nian-chun LU,Yang LIU,Guo-dong Hao,Yun-tao WANG 대한용접·접합학회 2017 대한용접·접합학회지 Vol.35 No.4

By means of the flame braze, the welding problems on Aluminum alloy(5A06)and low carbon steel Q235) were mainly researched in this paper. The welding technology adopted in this paper is that a hot-dipped Aluminum coating of ZL102 Aluminum alloy was firstly performed on the surfaces of low carbon steel, then the layer of hot-dipped aluminum and aluminum alloy were welded by the shape of the lap joint. Through the analysis of the microstructure and tensile property of welded joint after the experiment, the experimental results expressed that good welded joint can be attained by application of flame brazing. Fracture location of the joint specimens appears in the coating layer by means of tensile test. The results show that the bond strength of the coating layer was less than that of the brazing seams.
