Procedure for Ranking Ground Motion Records Based on the Destructive Capacity Parameter

        Jinjun Hu,Qinghui Lai,Shuang Li,Lili Xie 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.25 No.1

The relative input energy of a ground motion is used to quantitatively estimate the destructive capacity of ground motion to a structure, which reflects the deformation capacity and energy dissipation capacity of a structure. The destructive capacity of a ground motion on a structure is known to be relevant to the structural period. Because ranking the destructive capacity of ground motion at all periods is not practical, rationally dividing period ranges should be performed before ranking ground motions according to their destructive capacity and a new method to divide period ranges based on the relative input energy is proposed. According to the correlation coefficient of the relative input energy at adjacent structural periods, the structural periods from 0.2 s to 10 s are divided into several representational period ranges, which include a recommended period within each period range to represent the whole range. Only the ground motion ranking sequence at the recommended period is used in this period range. The rationality of the ranking sequence of ground motions based on destructive capacity is verified by a series of structural seismic response analyses. The results of this paper are compared with those of existing methods, and the results show that the relative input energy index is able to better quantitatively describe the destructive capacity of ground motion.

      • A stochastic finite element method for dynamic analysis of bridge structures under moving loads

        Xiang Liu,Lizhong Jiang,Ping Xiang,Zhipeng Lai,Yuntai Zhang,Lili Liu 국제구조공학회 2022 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.82 No.1

In structural engineering, the material properties of the structures such as elastic modulus, shear modulus, density, and size may not be deterministic and may vary at different locations. The dynamic response analysis of such structures may need to consider these properties as stochastic. This paper introduces a stochastic finite element method (SFEM) approach to analyze moving loads problems. Firstly, Karhunen-Loéve expansion (KLE) is applied for expressing the stochastic field of material properties. Then the mathematical expression of the random field is substituted into the finite element model to formulate the corresponding random matrix. Finally, the statistical moment of the dynamic response is calculated by the point estimation method (PEM). The accuracy and efficiency of the dynamic response obtained from the KLE-PEM are demonstrated by the example of a moving load passing through a simply supported Euler-Bernoulli beam, in which the material properties (including elastic modulus and density) are considered as random fields. The results from the KLE-PEM are compared with those from the Monte Carlo simulation. The results demonstrate that the proposed method of KLE-PEM has high accuracy and efficiency. By using the proposed SFEM, the random vertical deflection of a high-speed railway (HSR) bridge is analyzed by considering the random fields of material properties under the moving load of a train.

Verification Control Algorithm of Data Integrity Verification in Remote Data sharing

        Guangwei Xu,Shan Li,Miaolin Lai,Yanglan Gan,Xiangyang Feng,Qiubo Huang,Lili Yang,Wei Li 한국인터넷정보학회 2022 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.16 No.2

Cloud storage's elastic expansibility not only provides flexible services for data owners to store their data remotely, but also reduces storage operation and management costs of their data sharing. The data outsourced remotely in the storage space of cloud service provider also brings data security concerns about data integrity. Data integrity verification has become an important technology for detecting the integrity of remote shared data. However, users without data access rights to verify the data integrity will cause unnecessary overhead to data owner and cloud service provider. Especially malicious users who constantly launch data integrity verification will greatly waste service resources. Since data owner is a consumer purchasing cloud services, he needs to bear both the cost of data storage and that of data verification. This paper proposes a verification control algorithm in data integrity verification for remotely outsourced data. It designs an attribute-based encryption verification control algorithm for multiple verifiers. Moreover, data owner and cloud service provider construct a common access structure together and generate a verification sentinel to verify the authority of verifiers according to the access structure. Finally, since cloud service provider cannot know the access structure and the sentry generation operation, it can only authenticate verifiers with satisfying access policy to verify the data integrity for the corresponding outsourced data. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves fine-grained access control to multiple verifiers for the data integrity verification.

Use of antibiotics and other treatments in Chinese adults with acute cough: An online survey

        Xiao-yang Hu,Ru-yu Xia,Michael Moore,Beth Stuart,Wen Ling-Zi,Bertrand Graz,Lai Lily,Liu Jian-Ping,Yu-tong Fei,Merlin Willcox 한국한의학연구원 2023 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.12 No.1

Background: Acute respiratory tract infections are common worldwide and there has been a rapid in- crease in antibiotic consumption. This study aimed to identify use of various treatments and their as- sociation with the use of antibiotics and patient reported clinical recovery in Chinese adults with acute cough. Methods: An online survey recruiting people who had recently experienced cough was conducted. Their sociodemographic, clinical characteristics, treatments received and their perceived changes in symptoms were collected. Factors influencing avoidance of antibiotics and improvement in symptoms were explored. Results: A total of 22,787 adults with recent acute cough completed the questionnaire, covering all 34 province-level administrative units in China. Most respondents were male (68.0%), young (89.4%, aged 18–45), educated to university/degree or postgraduate level (44.6%), with a median cough severity of 6/10 on a numerical rating scale. Nearly half of the participants (46.4%) reported using antibiotics, among which 93.1% were for presumed upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs). Pharmacies (48.8%) were the most common source of antibiotics. Fewer patients took antibiotics after taking CHM (14.9%), compared to those who started with home remedies (18.0%), or allopathic non-antibiotic medication (25.0%). An- tibiotics, allopathic non-antibiotic medications, CHM and home remedies were all perceived beneficial in relieving cough. Conclusions: Chinese adult responders report use of a considerable variety of treatments alone or in combination for acute cough. Patient-reported clinical recovery was similar regardless of treatment. There is likely a high proportion of inappropriate use of antibiotics for treatment of simple acute cough. As the majority of respondents did not use antibiotics as a first-line, and use of CHM was associated with relief of cough symptoms and reduction in the use of antibiotics, this presents an important opportunity for prudent antibiotic stewardship in China.
