In postmenopausal syndrome, most common symptoms are those of vasomotor irritability such as hot flush and palpitation, irritable bladder symptoms and dyspareunia according to atrophy of urogenital epithelium, anxiety, nervousness, depression and insomnia. Approximately 40 percent of women in postmenopausal period develop symptoms serious enough to seek medical assistance. Among non-steroid agents, cyclofenil(4, 4' cyclohexidene methlyene diphenoacetate) is known to be a quite interesting substance according to the action at the level of the hypophyseal and hypothalamic centers by reducing the incretion of FSH and restoring normal endorphin, dopamine and norepinephrine activities, thus favorably affecting the whole postmenpausal neurovegutative symptomatology. In order to evaluate effect of cyclofenil on postmenopausal symptomatology and calcium metabolism, we examined 32 patients with postmenopausal syndrome before and after 200mg/day of oral cyclofenil treatment for 30-60 days. The results were as follows: 1. With 30 days of cyclofenil administration, subjective symptoms such as facial flush, palpitation, anxiety, nervousness and dyspareunia were improved significantly (p<0.001, p<0.001, p<0.01, p<0.005, respectively). But insomnia and depression were improved significantly after 60 days of cyclofenil administration (p<0.05, p<0.001, respectively). 2. Intestinal calcium absorption rate disclosed tendency of improvement without statistical significance 30 days after cyclofenil treatment. 3. Serum calcium and phosphorus level were not changed significantly before and after cyclofenil. 4. There was no definite evidence of side effects such as uterine bleeding due to cyclofenil. In conclusion, we thought that cycofenil is effective in management of postmenopausal syndrome but for the effect on calcium metabolism, further evaluation should be needed.

갑상선 질환에서 Anti-Tg Ab 및 Anti-Mic Ab의 Direct Assay의 의의

Measurement of autoantibodies(Anti-Tg, Anti-Mic) of the sera of Graves' disease or Hashimoto's thyroiditis has been used as a significant diagnostic tool in autoimmune thyroid disease. Recently direct assay method using competitive protein binding analysis, measuring the quantities of circulating antibodies has developed, more precise especially in the lower level of serum antibodies than the semiquantitative method by hemagglutination. To investigate the diagnostic significance of the direct radioassay of Anti-Tg and Anti-Mic Abs in autoimmune thyroid disease, we measured both Anti-Tg and Anti-Mic Abs in 61 Graves' disease, 65 Hashimoto's thyroiditis and 14 adenomatous goiter compared with 68 normal controls. The results were as follows; 1. The serum levels of Anti-Tg and Anti-Mic Abs concentrations in 61 cases of Graves' disease were significantly higher than those of normal controls.(0.42±0.08u/㎖, 0.33±0.03u/㎖) 2. The serum levels of Anti-Tg and Anti-Mic Abs concentrations in 65 cases of Hashimoto's thyroiditis were significantly elevated than those of normal controls. 3. The Anti-Tg and Anti-Mic Abs concentrations in 14 cases of adenomatous goiter were the same level with those of normal controls. 4. Measuring the Anti-Tg and Anti-Mic Abs concentration were diagnostically sensitive and specefic in Graves' disease(93.8%, 87.8%) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis(81.4%, 97.0%). 5. There was no significant correlation between serum TSH and antibody titer in Graves' disease nor Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

The use of the Internet is much increased and the multimedia data such as voice and image should be processed in the Internet. The required characteristics of the communication networks for the 21-st century Internet are the fusion between communications and broadcasting, high speed, large capacity, high intelligence, and personalization. In realizing the characteristics mentioned above, the ATM is the only technique that can practically guarantee QoS and is the core technique in super high-speed service networks. In this paper, we will investigate the international study of the high-speed the satellite communication and then research plans for developing and providing optimum application services.

The Location-Informing service is based on the GPS data from the satellite. Until now, the service has been free. However, it may become charged. Therefore, we research the methods that can find the location-information using the antennas in future mobile communication systems and investigate the signal arrival direction estimation methods with considering practical environments.

Influence of Cadmium on Rubisco Activation in Canavalia ensiformis L. Leaves

We studied the effect of cadmium on chlorophylls and rubisco activation in Canavalia ensiformis L. leaves. Chlorophyll levels were reduced by 5.0 ${\mu}$M Cd. Rubisco activity at 5.0 ${\mu}$M Cd was significantly smaller than that at no treatment. Rubisco Content showed patterns of change similar to rubisco activity. These data suggest that rubisco activity was associated with an amount of rubisco protein, and that the activation and induction of rubisco is inhibited by Cd. The degree of intensity of 50 and 14.5 kD polypeptides identified as the large and small subunit of rubisco by SDS-PAGE analysis at 5.0 ${\mu}$M Cd was significantly lower than that at control, indicating Cd had a e f-fect on both subunits. Under the assumption that effects of Cd on rubisco may be r elated to rubisco activase, in addition to, its activity and content we re determined . The rubisco activase activity at 5.0 ${\mu}$M Cd was more decreased than the control. A similar change pattern was also observed in content of rubisco activase. Remarkable differences in the intensitiy of both the 45 kD and 41 kD band were found between at control and Cd-treatment. These results suggest that the change in the levels of rubisco activase leads to a subsequent alter action of rubisco levels.

Inhibitory Effects of Bioactive Fractions Containing Protoberberine Alkaloids from the Roots of Coptis japonica on Monoamine Oxidase Activity

The effects of bioactive fractions containing protoberberine alkaloids from Coptic japonica on monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity were investigated. The MAO was obtained from the mitochondrial fraction of mouse brain. The butanol fraction from Coptic japonica was fractionated into separate bioactive fraction (Fr I-IV) by silica gel column chromatography. MAO activity was strongly inhibited by Fr III and IV, which mainly contain protoberberine alkaloids such as berberine, palmatine and coptisine. These results indicated that the protoberberine alkaloids from Coptic japonica had an inhibitory effect on MAO activity.

A Chemotaxonomic Study on euphorbiaceae in Korea

A chemosystematic study on euphorbiaceous plants in Korea has been performed by using phenolic constituents. The phenolic characteristics of subfamilies, genera and species were well distinguished from one another. Hydrolyzable tannins as constituents were considered to be a valuable taxonomic character in elucidating sys. tematic relationships among the related taxa whereas flavonoids could be used in the classification of infraspecific taxa in this family. The phenolic fingerprints of each of the plants would be considered as a good tool to identify the species. In comparison with the morphological classification system, the chemical relationship supported the subfamilial system of Webster (1975) and the further division of Euphorbia sensu lato by Hurusawa (1954).

한국산 두꺼비의 Alkaloid 성분연구

한국산 두꺼비는 Bufo bufo gargarizans Cantor와 Bufo stejnegeri Schmit 두종이 알려져 있다. 한방에서는 두꺼비의 이하선 및 피선에서 분비하는 유액을 모아 고화 건조한 것을 강심이뇨, 진통, 심장쇠약, 정맥울혈 및 위통등에 사용하고 있다. Bufo속 동물의 성분에 대해서는 Bufogenine, Bufothionine, Bufotenine, Bufotenidine, Bufovirdine등의 알카로이드와 Bufadienolide, Bufogenine 3-henisuberate 및 수종의 Bufotoxin이 보고되고 있으나 한국산 두꺼비의 Bufo bufo gargarizans Cantor에 대해서는 Nambara 등이 7종의 Bufogenine과 9종의 bufotoxin등의 Cardiac glycoside를 분리 보고한바 있으나, Alkaloid 성분에 관하여는 보고된바 없으므로, 실험에 착수하여 Bufo bufo gargarizans Cantor에서 알카로이드인 Bufothionine(C₁₂H₁₄O₄S)으로 생각되는 무색장침상결정을 얻었기에 보고한다.
