• Characteristics and Outcomes of Female Infertility Treatment Programs Using Traditional Medicine in Korea: A Multisite Analysis

        Kim, Kyeong Han,Jang, Soobin,Lee, Ju Ah,Go, Ho-Yeon,Jung, Jeeyoun,Park, Sunju,Lee, Myeong Soo,Ko, Seong-Gyu Mary Ann Liebert 2018 The journal of alternative and complementary medic Vol.24 No.6

Introduction: Infertility has long been recognized as a treatable disease, and complementary and alternative medicine treatments, such as acupuncture and moxibustion, have been used in Korea and China. This study describes female infertility treatment programs that used traditional Korean medicine (TKM) and were conducted by local governments in Korea and evaluates its effectiveness and safety. Methods: The authors officially requested related information from the report of the infertility treatment programs and related sources from 2006 to 2016 from the Health & Welfare Ministry of Korea and the Association of Korean Medicine (AKOM). Additional information was obtained from six Korean databases. Data including basic information about the programs, participant information, interventions, and outcomes were abstracted. Results: A total of 9 reports, including multiple years of data from 6 programs (total 13 programs), were identified. In these 13 programs, a total of 1023 female subjects participated, and 205 of the 887 subjects who completed the program reported a successful pregnancy, indicating a 23.1% pregnancy rate. The programs lasted 3-9 months, and interventional elements, such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, fumigation, and massage, were identified. Significant adverse effects were not reported. Conclusions: This study suggests that infertility treatment programs with TKM interventions exhibited a positive effect on pregnancy in females with infertility. Thus, the infertility treatment programs with TKM interventions are expected to be useful and might serve as the primary treatment before assisted reproduction techniques.

Currently, in the case of Dongseo University’s electronic attendance system, the professor shares a number with, students to proceed with attendance. However, this method creates a situation in which the attending student shares a number with the non-attending student to manipulate attendance, or leaves the classroom without listening to the lesson after such attendance. In this paper, in order to prevent unauthorized attendance of students, we will implement a system that sends a unique 8-digit OTP number only to students who have executed NFC tags.

The prevalence of obesity and the level of adherence to the Korean Dietary Action Guides in Korean preschool children

        Yuni Choi,Yeji You,Kyeong Ah Go,Zuunnast Tserendejid,Hyun Joo You,Jung Eun Lee,Seungmin Lee,Hae-Ryun Park 한국영양학회 2013 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.7 No.3

The objective of this study was to investigate the associations between the prevalence of overweight and obesity and the degree of adherence to the Korean Dietary Action Guides for Children (KDAGC). In a cross-sectional study based on a child care center-based survey in Seoul, Korea, we collected parental-reported questionnaires (n = 2,038) on children’s weight and height, frequency of fruit and vegetable consumption, and the quality of dietary and activity behaviors based on the 2009 KDAGC Adherence Index (KDAGCAI) which was developed as a composite measure of adherence to the KDAGC. Overweight and obesity were determined according to age- and sex-specific BMI percentile from the 2007 Korean national growth chart. Associations were assessed with generalized linear models and polytomous logistic regression models. Approximately 17.6 % of Korean preschool children were classified as overweight or obese. Obese preschoolers had lower adherence to the KDAGCAI compared to those with lean/normal weight. Preschoolers with a high quality of dietary and activity behaviors had a 51% decreased odds ratio (OR) of being obese (highest vs. lowest tertile of KDAGCAI-score, 95% CI 0.31, 0.78; P = 0.001); the associations were more pronounced among those who were older (P = 0.048) and lived in lower income households (P = 0.014). A greater frequency of vegetable consumption, but not fruit, was associated with a borderline significant reduction in the prevalence of obesity. Our findings support the association between obesity prevention and high compliance with the Korean national dietary and activity guideline among preschool children.

Clinical Characteristics of High-Grade Glioma with Primary Leptomeningeal Seeding at Initial Diagnosis in a Single Center Study

( Ji-eyon Kwon ),( Kihwan Hwang ),( Kyeong-o Go ),( Chan Woo Wee ),( In Ah Kim ),( Yu Jung Kim ),( Gheeyoung Choe ),( Byung Se Choi ),( Jung Ho Han ),( Chae-yong Kim ) 대한뇌종양학회 대한신경종양학회 2020 Brain Tumor Research and Treatment Vol.8 No.2

Background High-grade glioma (HGG) with primary leptomeningeal seeding (PLS) at initial diagnosis is rare. The purpose of this study was to identify its clinical features and to describe the clinical treatment outcomes. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients with HGG (World Health Organization grade III or IV) at our institution between 2004 and 2019, and patients with PLS at the initial diagnosis were enrolled in the study. Clinical features, such as the location of leptomeningeal seeding, surgical methods, and degree of resection, were sorted based on electronic medical records also containing performance scale, and hematological and serological evaluations. Radiological findings and immunohistochemical categories were confirmed. Furthermore, we sought to determine whether controlling intracranial pressure (ICP) via early cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion increases overall survival (OS) after the initial diagnosis. Results Of the 469 patients with HGG in our institution, less than 2% had PLS at the initial diagnosis. Most patients suffered from headache, diplopia, and dizziness. Pathological findings included 7 glioblastomas and 2 anaplastic astrocytomas. Seven of the 9 patients underwent CSF diversion. All patients were administered concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) with temozolomide, 89% of which started adjuvant temozolomide and 33% of which completed the six cycles of adjuvant temozolomide. The OS of patients with HGG and PLS was 8.7 months (range, 4-37), an extremely poor result compared to that of other studies. Also, the 1-year and 2-year OS rates were 44.4% and 16.7%, respectively. Conclusion Diagnosis and treatment of HGG with PLS are challenging. Aggressive control of ICP followed by early initiation of standard CCRT seems to be helpful in improving symptoms. However, despite aggressive treatment, the prognosis is poor. A multicenter trial and research may be necessary to create a standardized protocol for this disease.
