        Copolyesters containing oxybenzoate as a rigid rod molecule and methylene group and dimethyl tetramethyl disiloxane as flexible spacers were prepared by room temperature solution polymerization for the purpose of the developement of polymeric composite materials. The thermal properties and the characteristics of the polymers were investigated by DSC and a polarizing microscope. The polymers may be formed nematic liquid crystal phase, and the thermodynamic characteristics of their mesophase to isotropic phase transition could be explained on the basis of its structural features.

        In order to identify C_(2)H_(5)OH, (CH_(3))_(3)N and CH_(3)SH gases, a gas recognition system using gas sensor array and pattern recognition technique has been fabricated. The sensor array consists of four thick film oxide semiconductor gas sensors whose sensing layers are Pt-doped SnO_(2), Pd-doped SnO_(2), Pd-doped ZnO and Pd-doped WO_(3). Three kinds of pattern recognition techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA), discrimination analysis (DA) and back propagation (BP) were used for the discrimination of gas species. The identification of C_(2)H_(5)OH, (CH_(3))_(3)N and CH_(3)SH gases has been successfully demonstrated.

      • Pyrroloquinoline quinone(PQQ)에 特異的인 抗體의 生産

        There exist biocatalysts(e.g., some oxidoreductase and dehydrogenase) containing pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) as a cofactor. They are physiologically and pathogenically very important, since the quinoproteins are involved in various cellular activities, such as stimulation of cell growth, pollen germination, protective effects against hepatotoxin-induced liver injury, and so on. It is, therefor, interesting to develop a sensitive method to identify the quinoproteins in organisms. Monospecific polyclonal antiserum specific to PQQ was raised in a rabbit as follow. The PQQ was conjugated to bovine serum albumin (BSA) by 1-Ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl-aminopropyl)carbodiiminde HCl (EDC) mediated reaction. The PQQ-BSA conjugate was purified by gel filtration. The conjugate concentration was measured by Bradford method. The conjugates was emulsified with adjuvant. The emulsion was hyperdermally injected to a rabbit. PQQ-lipase conjugate was made to use as an antigen for the anti PQQ-BSA conjugate antiserum. The titre of the antiserum was determined by indirect solid phase immunoassay. The antiserum showing the highest titre recognised nano-gram quantity of PQQ-lipase conjugate.

        정신분열병 환자의 사회기능에 대한 올란자핀과 정형적 항정신병약물의 효과비교

        Objectives : The purpose of this study was to compare the social functioning between schizophrenic patients treated with olan-zapine and those with typical antipsychotics. Methods : Fifty-seven schizophrenic patients with acute exacerbation entered consecutively to olanzapine treatment (N=33) or typical antipsychotic treatment (N=24). The assessment of social functioning and symptoms were made at 3 time points : at the time of admission (baseline), 6 months and 12 months after starting medications. Social functioning and symptoms were examined using the Korean version of Social Adjustment Scale II-Revised Version (KSAS n-RV) and the Positive and Nega-tive Syndrome Scale (PANSS). Results : After 6-months and 12-months treatments, olanzapine treatment group showed significantly improved PANSS total scores (p=.02), Positive scores (p=.04), negative scores (p=.01), and KSAS II-RV total score (p=.004), instrumental role (p= .002), social leisure (p= .03), Personal well-being subarea scores (p= .02), compared with the scores of typical antipsy-chotic treatment group. Conclusion : Olanzapine was more effective than typical antipsychotics in reducing the severity of psychopathology and in improving some subareas of social functionings in patients with schizophrenia. The benefits of olanzapine on social functioning, although modest, may be important factor considering their accumulative effects for long-term treatment.

      • 산화물 반도체 가스센서 어레이와 패턴인식 기술을 이용한 전자코 시스템의 제작과 특성

        An electronic nose system using gas sensor arrays and neural-network pattern recognition has been fabricated. The sensor arrays consist of such thin or thick film oxide semiconductor sensing materials as SnO_(2), ZnO and WO_(3) containing a small amount of dopants. The principal component analysis and the neural-network pattern recognition analysis were used for the discrimination of such 6 flavor samples as vegetables(carrot and green onion), perfumes(men's and women's perfume) and alcohols(soju and passport). Good separation among flavor samples was obtained using the principal component analysis. The recognition probability of the neural-network for 6 flovor samples was 93 % for thin film and 98% for thick film type sensor array.

        Frozen beef loin imported from Australia was stored as 2℃ after thawing, then evaluate to improvement of raw meat aroma and palatability of cooked meat by sensory evaluation. To improvement of raw meat aroma and palatability of cooked meat of thawed beef were confirmed for the reason of conditioning after thaw as a result of myofibrillar fragmentation index(MFI) and Mg-ATPase activity of myofibril. Sensory evaluation of raw meat aroma and tenderness on frozen imported beef loin stored at 2℃ after thawing had good in all during cold storage, MFI and Mg-ATPase activity increased, therefore frozen beef loin could recognized to conditioning during stored at 2℃ after thawing. Cold storage after thawing of frozen imported beef loin can improve its cooked aroma and tenderness in case that insufficient conditioning is the reason for its low palatability, and the improvement of palatability on the cooked meat appeared to be greater in aroma than taste. In case of amino acid composition, aspartic acid, threonine, glutamic acid and alanine of imported beef loin stored 7 days after thawing were showed significantly(p<0.05) higher than that stored 0 day after thawing, total amino acid composition of imported beef loin stored 0,3 and 7 days after thawing were 148.40, 171. 06 and 188.99mg/g, respectively.

        여러 그룹들의 연구 결과로서 DC 방전 전산모사를 위한 여러 가지 수치해석적 방법들이 보고되어 왔다. 대부분의 방법들은 전극에 전압을 경계 조건으로 가정하고 전류를 구하는 방법인데, 때로는 전류값을 조건으로 주고 전극의 전압이 결정되는 방법이 필요한 경우도 있다. 본 연구에서는 전류값이 조건으로 주어진 경우에 전극의 전압이 결정되는 방법을 적용했으며, 1차원 전산모사를 통해 두 가지 방법에 의한 결과를 비교하였다. Various numerical simulation algorithms for simulating DC discharge were reported from many research groups. Most of reported methods uses terminal electrode voltage as a boundary condition to obtain current density. However, in some case, we need to obtain terminal voltage from boundary condition of current. In this paper, the method which obtain voltage under current condition is applied, and we compared the results of two methods through one-dimensional simulations.

        본 연구에서 선발된 17종의 천연물을 Sprague- Dawley rat에 급여한 결과, 체중 증가, 에너지 소비, fat pads 중량, 간의 triglyceride 함량, atherogenic index 그리고 혈중 글루코오스의 함량 등이 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 특히 동아를 구강으로 섭취시킨 결과, 체중 증가, 에너지 소비, fat pads 중량, 그리고 혈중 글로코오스의 함량등이 감소하였으나, 간의 triglyceride 함량은 오디와 송엽의 열수 추출물보다 적게 감소하였다. 동아, 오디, 그리고 송엽을 혼합하여 사용한 결과, 각각의 원료를 사용할 경우보다 비만이 개선되는 것으로 나타났다. This study attempted to evaluate the effectiveness of function of Wax Gourd for obesity and the related disease of adult people can be developed by the combination of the 17 food materials screened in this study. The experiments using Sprague-Dawley male rats show that seventeen kinds of food material inhibited the increase of body weight gain, energy intake, fat pads weight, liver triglycerides content, atherogenic index, and blood glucose concentration induced by cafeteria diet. Oral administration of wax gourd decreased most body weight gain, energy intake, fat pads weight, and blood glucose concentration induced by cafeteria diet. Oral administration of wax gourd decreased most body weight gain, energy intake, fat pads weight, and blood glucose concentration. Liver triglycerides content was the lowest in the group administered mulberry stem extract and the group administered pine leaves showed the lowest atherogenic index. The combined administration of wax gourd, mulberry stem extract and pine leaves improved more the obesity and related symptoms than the individual administrations.

      • Induction of immunological memory response by vaccination with TM4SF5 epitope-CpG-DNA-liposome complex in a mouse hepatocellular carcinoma model

        <P>The innovation of a peptide vaccine strategy may contribute to the development of efficacious and convenient cancer vaccines. Recently, we formulated an efficacious peptide vaccine without carriers using the natural phosphodiester bond CpG-DNA and a special liposome complex [Lipoplex(O)]. The peptide vaccine targeting a tumor antigen, transmembrane 4 superfamily member 5 protein (TM4SF5), was confirmed to have preventive and therapeutic effects in a mouse hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) model. In this study, we demonstrated that the isotype-switched (IgM(-)IgD(-)) B cell population increased after immunization and that the functional memory response persisted for at least 70 days after the final immunization of mice. Delayed implantation of BNL-HCC cells significantly induced the peptide-specific IgG2a production in the immunized mice. Accordingly, tumor growth was inhibited and the survival rate increased. These results suggest that our peptide vaccine induces memory response, which is essential for cancer vaccine application.</P>
