        Predicting an ideal 2D carbon nanostructure with negative Poisson's ratio from first principles: implications for nanomechanical devices

        The intrinsic negative Poisson’s ratio efect at the level of molecule in two-dimensional nanomaterials, especially in the perfect planar nanostructures with a single atom thickness, is really rare and has attracted a lot of research interests because of its unique mechanical properties in the nanoscale and extensive applications in mechanical nanodevices. In this work, a novel ideal planar carbon nanostructure (PCNS) framework with a single atom thickness composed by carbon and hydrogen atoms is proposed and studied by means of frst-principles density functional calculation. The results showed that the PCNS is, simultaneously, of excellent thermodynamic, molecular dynamic and mechanical stabilities. In addition, the electronic structure, mechanical characters, and optical-electronic characteristics of PCNS are also explored. Excitedly, it is found that the PCNS has a signifcant negative Poisson’s ratio efect in plane, and the maximum value of Poisson’s ratio is as high as − 2.094. Meanwhile, the material has a wide range of elastic mechanics. Moreover, the PCNS presents an ideal UV absorption performance. It is hoped that this work could be a useful structural design strategy for the development of the ideal 2D carbon-based nanomechanical devices with the intrinsic negative Poisson’s ratio efect and other electronic functions.

      • OK-432 Suppresses Proliferation and Metastasis by Tumor Associated Macrophages in Bladder Cancer

        OK-432, a Streptococcus-derived anticancer immunotherapeutic agent, has been applied in clinic for many years and achieved great progress in various cancers. In the present study, we investigated its anticancer effect on bladder cancer through tumor associated macrophages (TAMs). MTS assay validated OK-432 could inhibit proliferation in both T24 and EJ bladder cell lines. OK-432 also induced apoptosis of bladder cancer cells in vitro. Consequently, we demonstrated that OK-432 could suppress the bladder cancer cells migration and invasion by altering the EMT-related factors. Furthermore, using SD rat model, we revealed that OK-432 inhibited tumor growth, suppressed PCNA expression and inhibited metastasis in vivo. Taken together, these findings strongly suggest that OK-432 inhibits cell proliferation and metastasis through inducing macrophages to secret cytokines in bladder cancer.

Based on the literature on religious work, this paper reviews the arduous process of religious work with Chinese characteristics, refines the essence, summarizes the experience, deeply explains the meaning of the times in the construction of an independent knowledge system of religious work, and deepens the “living” of religious work texts, the “proof” of history, and the “meaning” of reality.

        Research on Configuration Process of Nuclear Power Valve Design System based on Axiomatic Design

        In order to construct the design system of nuclear power valve, the axiomatic design theory is introduced in configuration process of the valve structure design. According to the functional requirement and the complex mechanical structure of the nuclear power valves, the relationship model between design parameters and functional requirements is created by using the“zigzagging”mapping. Then the design matrix can be established and the design order can be planned. After that, the complete mapping table in design process is established through decoupling to quasi-coupling design, and the valve design process according to axiomatic method is constructed. On this basis, a rapid design system is constructed by combining the structural features with the multi-characteristic optimization requirement, in which the configuration process model established by axiomatic method provides valve design in integrated system with reasonable navigation and improves the rationality and the objectivity in design development process.

        Differences in the biological properties of mesenchymal stromal cells from traumatic temporomandibular joint fibrous and bony ankylosis: a comparative study

        The aim of this study was to compare the functional characteristics of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) from a sheep model of traumatic temporomandibular joint (TMJ) fibrous and bony ankylosis. A sheep model of bilateral TMJ trauma-induced fibrous ankylosis on one side and bony ankylosis on the contralateral side was used. MSCs from fibrous ankylosed callus (FAMSCs) or bony ankylosed callus (BA-MSCs) at weeks 1, 2, 4, and 8 after surgery were isolated and cultured. MSCs derived from the bone marrow of the mandibular condyle (BM-MSCs) were used as controls. The MSCs from the different sources were characterized morphologically, phenotypically, and functionally. Adherence and trilineage differentiation potential were presented in the ovine MSCs. These cell populations highly positively expressed MSC-associated specific markers, namely CD29, CD44, and CD166, but lacked CD31 and CD45 expressions. The BA-MSCs had higher clonogenic and proliferative potentials than the FA-MSCs. The BA-MSCs also showed higher osteogenic and chondrogenic potentials, but lower adipogenic capacity than the FA-MSCs. In addition, the BA-MSCs demonstrated higher chondrogenic, but lower osteogenic capacity than the BM-MSCs. Our study suggests that inhibition of the osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiations of MSCs might be a promising strategy for preventing bony ankylosis in the future.

        A Comparison of the Fitness Functions to Identify the Motor-Table System: Simulations and Experiments

        The different state-error fitness functions (FFs) are proposed and compared numerically and experimentally to identify a motor-table system by using self-learning particle swarm optimization (SLPSO). Firstly, the completed mathematical model containing both of mechanical and electrical equations is successfully formulated. Secondly, the FFs containing different state-errors are compared by using PSO and SLPSO to identify the unknown parameters. It is found that the identify performance of the SLPSO algorithm by using FF with full-state error of displacement, velocity and current is the best than the other methods. Thus, the FF with full-state errors is adopted in experiments for a real mechatronic motor-table system. Then, the unknown parameters are successfully identified by the SLPSO algorithm. The contributions of this paper are: (1) the more states of the system are measured and used in the FF, the more parameters of system are accurately identified by the proposed identification approach, (2) the FF with full-state errors is performed in a real mechatronic motor-table system, and the unknown parameters are successfully identified by the SLPSO algorithm in experimental results.

        Fabrication of silica/PVA‑co‑PE nanofiber membrane for oil/water separation

        High efficiency and anti-pollution oil/water separation membrane has been widely explored and researched. There are a large number of hydroxyl groups on the surface of silica, which has good wettability and can be used for oil-water separation membranes. Hydrophilic silica nanostructures with different morphologies were synthesized by changing templates and contents of trimethylbenzene (TMB). Here, silica nanospheres with radical pores, hollow silica nanospheres and worm-like silica nanotubes were separately sprayed on the PVA-co-PE nanofiber membrane (PM). The abundance of hydroxyl groups and porous structures on PM surfaces enabled the absorption of silica nanospheres through hydrogen bonds. Compared with different silica nanostructures, it was found that the silica/PM exhibited excellent super-hydrophilicity in air and underwater “oil-hating” properties. The PM was mass-produced in our lab through meltextrusion- phase-separation technique. Therefore, the obtained membranes not only have excellent underwater superoleophobicity but also have a low-cost production. The prepared silica/PM composites were used to separate n-hexane/water, silicone oil/ water and peanut oil water mixtures via filtration. As a result, they all exhibited efficient separation of oil/water mixture through gravity-driven filtration.

        Extramedullary Plasmacytoma Involving the Bilateral Adrenal Glands on MR Imaging

        We report here on a 64-year-old woman with extramedullary plasmacytoma involving the bilateral adrenal glands. Primary adrenal extramedullary plasmacytoma is extremely rare and only three cases of extramedullary plasmacytoma in the unilateral adrenal gland have currently been reported on. This case is of interest in that the bilateral adrenals were involved. In this article, we present the MRI findings and we briefly review the relevant literature.

        Molecular cloning and characterization of biphenyl hydrolase-like (BPHL) protein gene from silkworm, Bombyx mori

        The cDNA of a biphenyl hydrolase-like (BPHL) protein from Bombyx mori was cloned via rapid amplification of cDNA ends and submitted to GenBank under accession number JN020647. The full-length BmBPHL cDNA was 1161 bp, with four exons and three introns. It consisted of a 208 bp 5′-terminal untranslated region (UTR) and a 191 bp 3′-UTR with three polyadenylation signal sequences AATAAA and a poly(A) tail. The BmBPHL cDNA encodes a 253–amino acid polypeptide with a theoretical isoelectric point of 8.67 and a predicted molecular weight of 28.9 kDa. The deduced amino acid sequence of BmBPHL contained an abhydrolase_6 domain and the Gly-X-Ser-X-Gly motif that is characteristic of serine hydrolases. Sequence comparison showed that BmBPHL is 51% identical to Tribolium castaneum BPHL and 50% identical to Nasonia vitripennis BPHL. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that BmBPHL is grouped with insect BPHL proteins, separating from vertebrate BPHLs. The BmBPHL mRNA transcripts were mainly detected in hemolymph and fat body using fluorescent quantitative real-time PCR. In addition, infectionwith B. mori cytoplasmic polyhedrosis virus (BmCPV) upregulated the relative BmBPHL expression in the hemolymph and midgut. Therefore, BmBPHL may have an important function in the response of silkworms to BmCPV infection.
