Clinical behaviour and outcome in pediatric glioblastoma: current scenario

        Aditya Kumar Singla,Renu Madan,Kirti Gupta,Shikha Goyal,Narendra Kumar,Sushant Kumar Sahoo,Deepak K. Uppal,Chirag K. Ahuja 대한방사선종양학회 2021 Radiation Oncology Journal Vol.39 No.1

Pediatric glioblastoma (pGBM) is a rare entity accounting for only approximately 3% of all childhood brain tumors. Treatment guidelines for pGBM have been extrapolated from those in adult glioblastoma. Rarity of pGBM and underrepresentation of pediatric population in major studies precludes from defining the ideal treatment protocol for these patients. Maximum safe resection is performed in most of the cases followed by postoperative radiotherapy in children over 3 years of age. Benefit of temozolomide is unclear in these patients. Here, we present the clinicopathological details and outcome of six pGBM patients treated at our institute in 2018–2019.

Changes in patterns of plastic surgery emergencies at a level I trauma center in India during the COVID-19 pandemic

( Veena Singh ),( Ansarul Haq ),( Sarsij Sharma ),( Sanjeev Kumar ),( Aditya Kumar ),( Amarjeet Kumar ),( Neeraj Kumar ),( Anil Kumar ) 대한외상학회 2022 大韓外傷學會誌 Vol.35 No.2

Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had major effects worldwide, including sudden and forceful setbacks to the healthcare system. The COVID-19 pandemic has also led to changes in the plastic and reconstructive management of emergency cases, including those due to road traffic accidents. This study analyzed changes in patterns of plastic surgery emergencies and modifications in consultation policies to minimize the exposure of healthcare workers. Methods: Data on plastic surgery emergency calls received from the trauma and emergency department were collected for a period of 2 months before and during lockdown. The data were then analyzed with respect to the cause, mechanism, and site of the injury, as well as other variables. Results: During lockdown, there was a 40.4% overall decrease in the plastic surgery emergency case volume (168 vs. 100). The average daily number of consultations before lockdown was 2.8 as compared to 1.6 during lockdown. Road traffic accidents remained the most common mechanism of injury in both groups (45.8% vs. 39.0%) but decreased in number during the lockdown (77 vs. 39). Household accidents, including burns, were the second most common cause of injury in both phases (7.7% vs. 20.0%), but their proportion increased significantly from 7.7.% to 20.0% in the lockdown phase (P=0.003). The percentage of minor procedures done in the emergency department increased from 53.5% to 72.0% during lockdown (P=0.002). Procedures in the operating room decreased by 73.1% during lockdown (67 vs. 18, P=0.001). Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown orders in India greatly influenced trends in traumatic emergencies as observed by the plastic surgery team at our tertiary care center. Amidst all the chaos and limitations of the pandemic period, providing safe and prompt care to the patients presenting to the emergency room was our foremost priority.

Synthesis and characterization of ZnGa2O4:Cr3+Ge3+ compounds with tunable photoluminescence properties

        Kumar Pankaj,Sharma Aditya,Bishnoi Priyanka,Vij Ankush,Kumar Sandeep,Shin Hyun-Joon,Chae K. H.,Lee B. H.,Won S. O. 한국물리학회 2023 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.83 No.6

Pure and doped (Cr and Ge) ZnGa2O4 compounds are prepared using solid-state reaction method. Single-phase nature of pure and doped ZnGa2O4 compounds is investigated using X-ray difraction (XRD). XRD results indicate lower theta angle shifting, decrease in particle size and tensile strain in the doped samples. A granular morphology of amalgamated particles is seen in the SEM images. EDS results convey, practically, the same concentrations (atm%) of doped elements as used during the preparation. X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) results helped to determine the valence state of elements. O K-edge XANES shows a signifcant orbital hybridization of O 2p shells with the d shells of doped atoms (i.e., Cr and Ge). Broad PL bands, of nearly the white-light emission, are observed in all of the samples. Modifcation in the PL intensity and emitted wavelengths, upon doping of Cr3+ and Ge3+ ions, are discussed through the energy transfer mechanisms and defects in the compounds.

Post-Fire Exposure Behavior of Circular Concrete-fi lled Steel Tube Column under Axial Loading

Aditya Kumar Tiwary,Ashok Kumar Gupta 한국강구조학회 2021 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.21 No.1

Concrete-fi lled steel tube (CFST) columns are a composite member which mainly consists of steel tube infi lled with concrete that are increasingly being used as load-carrying members these days. In construction industry, CFST columns are being preferred for the development of tall buildings and long-span bridges. This paper presents an experimental investigation on concrete-fi lled steel tube (CFST) columns which were post heated and were subjected to axial loading. The thickness of the casing steel was 4 mm and 5 mm and diameter was 100 mm, 125 mm and 150 mm and were infi lled with concrete of grade M30 which were used in the present study. This study also represents the behavior of CFST columns for two cooling regimes (annealing and quenching) after exposure to elevated temperatures of 600 °C and 800 °C. The results obtained from experimental analysis were compared to each other in terms of load-deformation pattern, ultimate load capacity, residual strength index, secant stiff ness and ductility index. The test results showed that as compared with water quenching, annealing is slightly better for post fi re cooling of CFST columns. Also, the results obtained by the experimental investigation were compared with each other on the basis of two cooling regimes.

Whole-body Vibration Exposure of Drill Operators in Iron Ore Mines and Role of Machine-Related, Individual, and Rock-Related Factors

Dhanjee Kumar Chaudhary,Ashis Bhattacherjee,Aditya Kumar Patra,Nearkasen Chau 한국산업안전보건공단 산업안전보건연구원 2015 Safety and health at work Vol.6 No.4

Background: This study aimed to assess the whole-body vibration (WBV) exposure among large blast hole drill machine operators with regard to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) recommended threshold values and its association with machine- and rock-related factors and workers’ individual characteristics. Methods: The study population included 28 drill machine operators who had worked in four opencast iron ore mines in eastern India. The study protocol comprised the following: measurements of WBV exposure [frequency weighted root mean square (RMS) acceleration (m/s2)], machine-related data (manufacturer of machine, age of machine, seat height, thickness, and rest height) collected from mine management offices, measurements of rock hardness, uniaxial compressive strength and density, and workers’ characteristics via face-to-face interviews. Results: More than 90% of the operators were exposed to a higher level WBV than the ISO upper limit and only 3.6% between the lower and upper limits, mainly in the vertical axis. Bivariate correlations revealed that potential predictors of total WBV exposure were: machine manufacturer (r ¼ 0.453, p ¼ 0.015), age of drill (r ¼ 0.533, p ¼ 0.003), and hardness of rock (r ¼ 0.561, p ¼ 0.002). The stepwise multiple regression model revealed that the potential predictors are age of operator (regression coefficient b ¼ ?0.052, standard error SE ¼ 0.023), manufacturer (b ¼ 1.093, SE ¼ 0.227), rock hardness (b ¼ 0.045, SE ¼ 0.018), uniaxial compressive strength (b ¼ 0.027, SE ¼ 0.009), and density (b ¼ e1.135, SE ¼ 0.235). Conclusion: Prevention should include using appropriate machines to handle rock hardness, rock uniaxial compressive strength and density, and seat improvement using ergonomic approaches such as including a suspension system.

A Review on Estimation of Particulate Matter from Satellite-Based Aerosol Optical Depth: Data, Methods, and Challenges

        Avinash Kumar Ranjan,Aditya Kumar Patra,A. K. Gorai 한국기상학회 2021 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.57 No.3

Detailed, reliable, and continuous monitoring of aerosol optical depth (AOD) is essential for air quality management and protection of human health. The satellite-based AOD datasets have been typically used in many studies for the estimation of particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) concentration in the tropospheric region. The prime focus of this study is to review the past studies to analyze the performance of various satellite-based AOD datasets and models used for PM estimation. The review results suggest that every satellite sensors data have some specific capabilities as well as some drawbacks. Multi-angle imaging spectroradiometer (MISR) and visible infrared imaging radiometer suite (VIIRS) datasets showed better consistency in AOD and PM estimation in comparison to the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) datasets. In the context of PM estimation models’ accuracy, the mixed-effect model (MEM) has been extensively used and found to be more consistent in general, whereas, geographically weighted regression (GWR) model outperforms other statistical regression models in regional scale. Incorporation of land use parameters along with meteorological parameters improves the PM estimation accuracy at various spatial scale. The review suggests that in the near future, high resolution (spatial and temporal) satellite data with the improved algorithms will be highly appreciable for accurate estimation of AOD and PM.
