Operation and Maintenance of In-Situ CO₂ Measurement System Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

The aim of this study is to actualize an in-situ measurement system of greenhouse gases using a UAV. This paper presents vertical profiles of CO₂ concentration as a measurement result with operation and long-term maintenance for a periodic flight tests. For this study, a new joint part with a single structure for improving strength of the sensor mount is developed. Moreover, routine maintenance to replace a router and periodic regulation of the analyzer is provided. After updating flight altitude permission over 150 m, we conducted flight tests up to 500 m. We compare individual linear correction and liner regression applied for vertical profiles of CO₂ concentration. We address that correction using linear regression has advantage to reduce burden for in-situ measurement.
FPGA-Based Binary Labeling Signal Transmission System

We implemented and evaluated our newly developed binary labeling signal transmission system using field-programmable gate arrays. In this system, the state of “0” or “1” of labeling signals is related to modulation or non-modulation of frame signals, and the labeling signals can be multiplexed to frame signals and transmitted without changing the configuration of the original frame signal. We designed a modulation-system protocol for implementing the above system and propose a digital smoothing technique for stabilizing a phase-locked loop circuit. We verified that our digital smoothing technique prevents bit error of the modulated frame signals in the implemented transmitter. The labeling signal multiplexed to the frame signals is demodulated without bit error in the implemented transceiver.
Saturation improvement in hue-preserving color image enhancement without gamut problem

This study proposes a method to improve the saturation of colors during hue-preserving color image enhancement without the gamut problem. First, the color of each pixel in an input image is projected onto one of three bisecting planes or bisectors of an RGB color cube to increase saturation. Then, that projected color is transformed into a target color with a designated luminance and the same hue as the original color. Experimental results show that the proposed method can enhance color images better than can recent hue-preserving color image enhancement methods.
A convergence proof for local mode filtering

In this paper, we present a convergence proof for an iterative procedure of local mode filtering. We formulate the local mode filtering as a quadratic optimization problem based on the Legendre transform of convex function, from which two closed-form expressions at each iteration step are derived for variables to be optimized. Those analytical solutions ensure that the value of objective function increases monotonically with the progress of the iterative procedure. We also show experimental results using a grayscale image, which support our theoretical results practically.
