        Recommendations for SARS-CoV-2 testing and organ procurement from deceased donors in the Republic of Korea

        We present a summary of the evidence on testing for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) and organ procurement from deceased donors and provide recommendations based on current clinical data and the guidelines from major transplant organizations. Because of the limited historical experience with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), certain recommendations in this document are based on theoretical rationales rather than clinical data. The recommendations in this manuscript may be subject to revision as subsequent clinical studies provide definitive evidence regarding COVID-19 in organ procurement.

        Heat shock protein 90 is involved in IL-17-mediated skin inflammation following thermal stimulation

        <P>The pathogenesis of inflammatory skin diseases involves interactions between immune cells and keratinocytes, including the T helper 17 (Th17)-mediated immune response. Several chemokines [chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand (CXCL)1, CXCL5 and CXCL8] and antimicrobial peptides [-defensin 1 (BD1), LL-37, S100A8 and S100A9] were transcriptionally upregulated in the keratinocyte cell line HaCaT upon stimulation with interleukin (IL)-17. Balneotherapy, the treatment of disease by bathing, is an alternative therapy that has frequently been used for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases. Immersion in pools of thermal mineral water is often considered to have chemical, thermal, mechanical and immunomodulatory benefits. We examined the effect of thermal treatment on IL-17-mediated inflammation in a model of skin disease. As Act1 is required for IL-17 signaling and is a client protein of heat shock protein 90 (HSP90), we evaluated the effect of HSP90 inhibition on IL-17-mediated cytokine and antimicrobial peptide expression in keratinocytes following heat treatment. We found that after thermal stimulation, Act1 binding to HSP90 was significantly increased in the presence of IL-17 (100 ng/ml) and 17-N-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin (17-AAG, 1 mu M). Antimicrobial peptide and chemokine expression generally increased after heat treatment; Act1 knockdown and 17-AAG reversed this effect. These observations demonstrate the possible immunomodulatory effect of heat on keratinocytes during the progression of IL-17-mediated inflammatory skin diseases.</P>

      • Development of Landslide Detection Algorithm Using Fully Polarimetric ALOS-2 SAR Data

        SAR data is useful in a variety of applications such as disaster monitoring, target detection, and land cover classification. Especially, Polarimetric SAR data contains more information compared to conventional single-or dual- polarization SAR data. The objective of this study is to propose a novel landslide detection algorithm based on the polarimetric parameters providing better discriminability of landslide affected areas from undamaged backgrounds, such as the polarimetric entropy, radar vegetation index, and HH- and VV-polarization coherence. Since the estimation of polarimetric parameters can be affected by the number of look, another objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of speckle filtering on the landslide detection using polarimetric SAR data. On the other hand, it is important to correct geometric distortions in polarimetric SAR image because the landslide usually occurs in highly sloping terrain. In this study, we also investigate the effect of orthorectification on the estimation of polarimetric parameters. In order to develop the landslide detection algorithm, several deep seated landslides in Japan caused by Typhoon Talas in September 2011 were investigated using the L-band PALSAR-2 data.

        Experiment and simulation of tearing mode evolution with electron cyclotron current drive in KSTAR

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The tearing mode (TM) plasma instability was observed in low confinement (L-mode) plasmas when non-axisymmetric magnetic perturbation (MP) was applied using external coils during 2011 campaign of KSTAR. Based on the collected information of the magnetic island location in a plasma, a discharge was designed for suppression of a (2,1) TM mode by adjusting electron cyclotron (EC) launcher angles to the estimated island position. Here, the (m,n) notation describes the poloidal mode number and the toroidal mode number of the TM, respectively. The discharge is analysed with experimental observations and numerical simulations. Mirnov coil (MC) arrays and electron cyclotron emission (ECE) are used for analysis of the island width and the location as well as the mode number. The EC deposition and its alignment with the island are estimated by X-ray imaging crystal spectroscopy (XICS) and ECE measurements. An integrated numerical system is employed for modelling of this discharge to analyse a temporal evolution of the mode activity by integrating plasma equilibrium, transport, heating and current drive, and the magnetic island evolution, in a self-consistent way. The effect of EC current drive is discussed by comparing with another TM discharge but without ECCD. Some possibilities for classifying this mode to neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) and stabilisation effect of ECCD are suggested based on the experimental observation and the simulation results.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Suppression of (2,1) TM/NTM by applying ECH/CD for the first time in KSTAR. </LI> <LI> Suppression of the mode examined by experimental observations and simulations. </LI> <LI> Simulation of a mode without ECCD to compare with/without the applied control. </LI> </UL> </P>

        포털사이트 사무공간에 있어 코워킹 스페이스 구성 특성 연구

        (연구배경 및 목적)현대인의 제2의 생활공간인 사무공간은 시대의 흐름에 따라 다양한 형태로 변화해 왔다. 지식이 노동의 가치를 좌우하고 장소, 시간의 개념이 무너진 무한 경쟁의 시대에 사회를 이끌어가는 힘은 남들과 다른 혁신적이고 창의적 사고와 서로의 생각을 함께 공유하는 소통과 협업이 되었다. 이제 사회의 주요 조직공간인 사무공간은 업무의 유형과 프로세스가 바뀌고 기업과 업무자의 인식 변화에 따라 공간의 경계가 사라지거나 범위가 달라지고 기능이 다각화 되는 등의 움직임을 보이고 있다. IT산업의 발달로 이동이 자유로워지고 커뮤니케이션의 방법이 다양해졌으며, 언제 어디서나 따로 또 같이 활발한 활동이 가 능해졌다. 이에 사회가 요구하는 흐름과 맞물려 사무공간은 수직적 조직 중심에서 업무자 중심의 수평적 네트워크를 이룰 수 있는 협업공간, 즉 코워킹 스페이스(Co-working)의 적용에 대한 관심이 증가하였다. 이게 본 연구는 2000년 이후, 사무공간의 혁신적 디자인을 보인 기업 분야 중 IT분야, 그 중에서도 수많은 콘텐츠 개발에 다양한 업무형태를 보이는 국 ·내외 포털사이트 사무공간에 있어 코워킹 스페이스 구성 특성을 분석하여 보다 아직까지도 시작에 불과한 개방, 공유, 참여를 위한 효율적이고 조화로운 코워킹 스페이스 구성을 도출하는데 목적이 있다. (연구방법)선행연구 및 문헌 고찰을 통하여 포털사이트 사무공간과 코워킹 스페이스에 대한 개념과 특성을 알아보고, 포털사이트 기업의 사무공간 내 코워킹 스페이스에서 나타나는 공간적 구성 특성을 기능적 경계, 커뮤니케이션, 네트워크로 구분하여 사례 분석을 통하여 도출해 낸다. 각 사례의 영역별 점유면적을 캐드 구적으로 산출하여 공간의 비율을 도출하고, 분석된 영역별 관계를 기준으로 기능적 경계, 커뮤니케이션, 네트워크의 특성과 관계를 분석하였다. (결과) 사무공간의 형태에 따라 차이점은 있지만 공통적으로 사무공간 내 코워킹 스페이스는 대등한 면적 비 율로 집중업무공간과의 독립적 영역을 형성하여 집중과 이완의 적절한 조화를 이루고 있었다. 메인 출입구를 중심으로 업무자들의 동선이 밀집되는 공간이 코워킹 스페이스의 중심으로 다양한 형태의 협업이 이루어진다. 다양한 프로그램의 집약으로 복합적 공간으로 나타났고 이러한 공간은 개방적이고 가변적인 형태와 요소로 구성되어 있었다. 자연스러운 소통, 협업을 위해 의도적으로 계획되어진 코워킹 스페이스는 활발한 네트워크 형성으로 근무자 개개인의 효율과 근무자 서로간의 응집력이 잠재된, 힘있는 공간이 된다. (결론) 포털사이트 사무공간에 있어 코워킹 스페이스는 단순한 오픈 스페이스나 공용공간이 아니라 또 하나 의 업무 공간으로 함께 조화롭게 구성된 사용자를 위한 공간이다. 창의적 사고와 협업, 소통이 필요한 현대의 사무공간이 본 연구를 기반으로 조화로운 코워킹 스페이스 구성에 대한 적극적인 도입과 효과를 기대 해 본다. (Background and Purpose) Workplaces, which function as a second living space for modern people, have transformed with the times. Not only creative thinking but communication and cooperation in sharing ideas have become leading powers in this age of unlimited competition, in which the concepts of time and place have been destroyed and intelligence determines labor value. In response to changes in recognition of companies/workers and transitions in types and processes of work, the workplace has been modified in the following ways: the boundaries of the workplace have been adjusted or even destroyed, and its functions have been diversified. In addition, due to the development of IT industry, migrating from place to place has become much easier, and various new communication methods have appeared. Thus, people can work more actively, either together or separately, from anywhere and at any time. Therefore, the application of co-working space has attracted great attention as the workspace structure has evolved from vertical and organization-centric to the horizontal and worker-centric. Of all areas presenting innovative office space designs, web portal companies`` workplaces were chosen for this study, as they have demonstrated diverse work types in order to develop various products. This study analyzes the characteristics of co-working space composition in foreign and Korean web portal companies from 2000 on and to extract effective and harmonious co-working space composition characteristics to promote openness, sharing, and participation. (Method) Based on systematic review of advanced studies, this research aims to determine the driving concepts and characteristics of co-working space and web portal company workplaces. Furthermore, case studies are used to discuss and classify the characteristics of the workplace``s composition into aspects of functional boundaries, communication, and networks. The ratio of space is determined by calculating the occupation area in the study cases using CAD, and the characteristics of and relationship between those areas are analyzed. (Results) Although some differences exist depending on type of workplace, co-working space balances concentration and openness by presenting an independent area equal in area to space for concentrated work. Workers`` traffic flow accumulates in the center of the co-working space, in which various forms of cooperation take place. Thanks to integration of a variety of programs, non-territorial workplaces have become multi-functional spaces consisting of variable components. Co-working space, which is intentionally planned to encourage free communication and cooperation, becomes a powerful place where high job concentration and strong cohesiveness among workers are realized. (Conclusions) Co-working space is not simply open, public space. As a new type of workplace, it is focused intensively on workers. Transient introduction of co-working space and its effects are expected based on this research.

      • Leaf Proteome and Metabolome Analysis of Wheat-Rye Translocation Lines

        Wheat-rye translocation lines were developed to produce a main crop resistant to biological and physical stress. 'Chaupon' rye contains 2RL chromatin to harbor resistance genes for powdery mildew and leaf rust. In order to identify chromosome 2RL-derived rye proteins and 2RL-perturbed proteins in wheat-rye translocation lines, the gel-based proteomics was employed with 'Coker797' (non-2RL), 'Hamlet' (2RL) and 'near-isogenic line' (stabilized 2RL). The leaf proteome was resolved on 2D-gel, resulting in 216 spots in a final selection. A total of 90 proteins were identified with the identification success rate of 42%. The identified proteins were classified by functional annotation: metabolism (64%), cellular process (5%), translation (2%), regulatory function (1%) and hypothetical (28%). The proteins belonged to metabolism were subdivided into carbohydrate metabolism (36%), energy metabolism (35%), metabolism of lipid, amino acid, other amino acid and biosynthesis of secondary metabolites (each 6%) and others (5%). A total of 53 proteins were differentially expressed, in which β-glucosidase, in particular, originated from the chromosome 2RL of rye, was exclusively appeared in NIL. In addition, small Ras-related GTP binding-protein assigned to wheat was predominantly found in 2RL rye chromatin-possessing NIL. These results suggest that the acquired genetic traits obtained from rye 2RL enhance the resistance to biotic and abiotic stress in wheat-rye translocation lines by altered the proteome expression. In leaf metabolome analysis, 11 predominant metabolites containing trans-aconitate, glutamate, and betaine were identified by 1H-NMR-based metabolite fingerprinting. The overall metabolites pattern of NIH appears to be closer to Coker797 rather than Hamlet. Thus, the metabolic phenotype of NIL was not so much lineated from Hamlet contrast to proteomic phenotyping.
