        Because of location, a mediastinal mass may cause complications such as a major airway obstruction, a superior vena caval obstruction, and cardiac compression during general anesthesia. The patient's condition need to be assessed by several methods to predict the risks associated with general anesthesia The authors took computed tomographs for a preoperative evaluation of two patients with an anterior mediastinal mass, and the risk of perioperative complications was predicted by measuring the tracheal area. The patients were managed according to the preoperative evaluation but severe ventilation impairments were encountered during anesthesia. In one patient, stable ventilation could not be maintained until spontaneous breathing appeared. The operation was cancelled and the patient was brought into the ICU. In the other patient, a tracheal tube was inserted deeper in an attempt to pass the narrowed tracheal portion due to mediastinal tumor compression resulting in improved ventilation

        LAMMER Kinase Modulates Cell Cycle by Phosphorylating the MBF Repressor, Yox1, in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

        Lkh1, a LAMMER kinase homolog in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, acts as anegative regulator of filamentous growth and flocculation. It is also involved in the responseto oxidative stress. The lkh1-deletion mutant displays slower cell growth, shorter cell size,and abnormal DNA content compared to the wild type. These phenotypes suggest thatLkh1 controls cell size and cell cycle progression. When we performed microarray analysisusing the lkh1-deletion mutant, we found that only four of the up-regulated genes in thelkh1-deletion were associated with the cell cycle. Interestingly, all of these genes are regulatedby the Mlu1 cell cycle box binding factor (MBF), which is a transcription complexresponsible for regulating the expression of cell cycle genes during the G1/S phase. Transcription analyses of the MBF-dependent cell-cycle genes, including negative feedbackregulators, confirmed the up-regulation of these genes by the deletion of lkh1. Pull-downassay confirmed the interaction between Lkh1 and Yox1, which is a negative feedback regulatorof MBF. This result supports the involvement of LAMMER kinase in cell cycle regulationby modulating MBF activity. In vitro kinase assay and NetPhosK 2.0 analysis with theYox1T40,41A mutant allele revealed that T40 and T41 residues are the phosphorylation sitesmediated by Lkh1. These sites affect the G1/S cell cycle progression of fission yeast by modulatingthe activity of the MBF complex.

        Water Supply Reliability Analysis of Multi-Purpose Dams in Preparation for Water Disasters

        Purpose: In this study, in order to find a way to minimize water supply shortage, reliability analysis of water supply was conducted by operating the Andong and the Imha Dam. The purpose is to find a way to minimize water shortage by the allocation distribution model from the reliability analysis results. Method: In this study, in order to analyze the water supply reliability of Andong and Imha Dam, using the Allocation rule presented by Park et al(2007), based on the planned water supply of Andong and Imha Dam for a total of 360 months from 1993 to 2022, analyzed. From the analysis results, the reliability of stable water supply was evaluated. Results: In the case of supplying the planned water supply of Andong and Imha Dam, the analysis result of Rule(B), which considers the ratio of the storage and inflow of the dam in the reservoir operation analysis result, showed that the shortage of Andong Dam occurred the most at 23 months, Regarding the number of shortages of control points, Rule(A), which considers only the storage capacity of the dam, was found to be short at 39 months, which is the largest number of shortages. As for the frequency standard reliability, Rule(B) showed the highest reliability of 90%, but in the case of quantitative reliability, the reliability was similar in all cases. Conclusion: In the water supply reliability, the reliability of stable water supply by supplying only the planned water supply amount is 94%, 93%, and 90% in Rule(B) of the allocation distribution model. 5% at the Andong dam, 7% at the Imha dam, and 10% at the control point. When water supply is evaluated with frequency reliability, it is judged that countermeasures for the shortfall are necessary. Next, in the case of quantitative reliability, when only the planned water supply was supplied, it was analyzed to be 95%, 94%, and 95% in all methods, so that the quantitative reliability was higher than the frequency reliability.

        A Study on the Establish of Continuous and Long-Term National DISASTER Situation Scenario

        Purpose: In this study, national disasters are defined as the occurrence of cascading disasters taking into account the temporal and seasonal situations, including social crisis conditions such as financial crisis, etc. and large-scale natural and social disasters that occurred in Korea in the past. Method: In order to establish national disaster situations, representative disasters and crisis situations that occurred in Korea were summarized, and national disaster situation scenarios were proposed according to time and situation. The damage caused by the establishment of national disaster situations is expected to be unpredictable. In particular, in the case of an economic crisis such as the IMF, the financial condition of the country is poor, so if cascading disasters occur and the disaster situation lasts for a long time, the government’s ability to support may be remarkably difficult. Results: Preparing for such a national disaster is to be able to effectively cope with similar disasters, and the organization of the National Disaster Countermeasure Headquarters was proposed to respond to national disasters. In order to respond efficiently and promptly to national disaster situations, the President should be the head of the headquarters, the National Assembly and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance should be composed of support groups, and the central government organization of 17 departments, 5 offices, 17 government offices, and the head of 17 municipal governments need to be operated as a working organization of the national disaster countermeasure headquarters. Conclusion: In this study, a situation in which the worst disasters occur continuously and in the long term was established, and the situation of national catastrophe was presented as an example. It is absolutely necessary to prepare for such a worst-case situation, and as climate change, social economy become more complex and diversified, and uncertainty about risks increases, it is believed to be helpful to strengthen national response capabilities.

      • Analysis of Effects of Segmentation Cracks on Durability Enhancement of APS TBC

        Thermal barrier coating(TBC) is a coating technology used to protect key components of gas turbine from high-temperature operating conditions, and the durability of TBC has emerged as a major issue since the operating temperatures are getting higher for better efficiencies. The failure of TBCs is caused of the thermal stresses either due to temperature change or due to the growth of the oxide layer(thermally grown oxide, TGO) which forms and grows at high service temperature. In this study, the effect of segmentation cracks formed in the TBC on stress reduction and durability improvement was analyzed in detail. Finite element analysis simulating the operating conditions was conducted using a 3D unit cell model for TBC, and the stress and geometry changes of interlayer were investigated. As a result, segmentation cracks inhibited the increases of the interface rumpling during the TGO growth, and also reduced the magnitude of the stress accompanying at this process. Additionally, through the thermal fatigue test, the suppression of increases of interfacial rumpling and improvement of durability were confirmed in the presence of segmentation cracks.

        주행 시 헤드업 디스플레이 선호영역 분류에 관한 연구

        Objective: The aim of this study is to provide classification of the areas in the Driver"s windshield that will enhance your intuitive understanding. Background: Self-driving vehicles are emerging as a result of technological advances, and the range of human behavior is expanding. The collateral information on driving is increasing, and HUD is coupled with an augmented reality to convey information to the driver. Interference between the actual driving environment and the displayed information can cause distraction. Research is required to find out that which areas in driver"s WS are optimum, preferred and restricted to be displayed when displaying information. Method: Proceeding a test for 9 areas, which is carried out as a classification and grouping of the relevant factors in existing HUD researches, on driver"s side WS. The number of 18 participants have been acted LCT with driving simulator, and being measured by completion time and MCH handling quality. Results: In the intuitive perspective the vertically middle areas were the dominant positions all the time. Also the traffic congestion and participant"s state had affected on the interaction to areas. Conclusion: There are many legal regulations locating the HUD area to the middle on the WS, so this study proposed a secondary solution suggest and designated the worst area on considering LOA. For preparing new era of autonomous car industry, this study proposes the initial classification of the HUD location on driving. Application: Moreover, the purpose of this study is being the basis of the study that founds the groups of the optimum, preferred, restricted HUD areas for the near future with Autonomous Driving.

        자동차 센터페시아 디스플레이의 감성적 설계: 지역별 선호를 중심으로

        Objective: This study is primarily aimed at examining regional affections to automotive center fascia displays. Background: Design research continues to systematize affection to enhance affective quality for automotive users. As self-driving technology progresses, the amount of information exchanged between the driver and the vehicle increases rapidly, making the center fascia display larger and more diverse. As a result, the direction of research reflecting customer affection in the design of existing automotive interior package elements needs to be studied in guideline with the new design trend in the center fascia. Method: A total of nine products were tested for affection, taking into account three display types, after selecting 22 affective words. Based on this, the three affective factors of each display type were derived by analyzing factors, and the MDS and MANOVA analysis was conducted to analyze the dimensions of the affective factors after conducting an affective evaluation of the nine products using newly formed affective factors and to verify the influence between the nine products, the affective factors and regions. Results: There was a difference in preference affection between regions for display type, while horizontal type was significant for novelty and luxuriousness, longitudinal type was significant for novelty, fanciness and overall preference, and mixed type resulted in significant results for novelty and fanciness. It was derived that product differentiation comes from novelty, fanciness and luxuriousness. Conclusion: Cross cultural affective preference was derived by vehicle center fascia display type considering the result of this study in the final. Application: The results of this study is expected to present a strategic direction related to overall affection to the form of automotive displays.
