In this work, we explore the superposition of two well-known chaotic oscillators, namely, the Duffing double-well and the forced van der Pol with the fractional order derivative. The proportional fractional derivative has been taken for numerical simulations and highly chaotic solution to improve some information of security systems has been found. The existence and the uniqueness of a super system are stated in the form of theorems using the Lipschitz condition locally. The qualitative properties of chaotic dynamics are described by mean of Lyapunov exponent (LE), eigenvalues, bifurcation and Poincaré maps. The analog circuit is also intended, with the help of different physical instruments, to validate the superposition of chaotic systems. The randomness level of a superposition chaotic system is tested via standard test suite, and the qualified set of a 32-bit array with high haphazardness is used for encryption as well as decryption. Furthermore, a security analysis is performed using different parameters, such as the uncertainty, similarity etc. The outcomes for the properties, time evolution, phase portrait, and oscilloscopic views are presented in tabulated and graphical forms.

Background: In Pakistan thyroid cancer is responsible for 1.2% cases of all malignant tumors. Ultrasonography (US) is helpful in detecting cancerous thyroid nodules on basis of different features like echogenicity, margins, microcalcifications, size, shape and abnormal neck lymph nodes. We therefore aimed to calculate diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound in detection of carcinoma in thyroid nodules taking fine needle aspiration cytology as the reference standard. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was designed to prospectively collect data from December 2010 till December 2012 from the Department of Radiology in Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan. A total of 100 patients of both genders were enrolled after informed consent via applying non-probability consecutive sampling technique. Patients referred to Radiology department of Aga Khan University to perform thyroid ultrasound followed by fine-needle aspiration cytology of thyroid nodules were included. They were excluded if proven for thyroid malignancy or if their US or FNAC was conducted outside our institution. Results: The subjects comprised 76 (76%) females and 24 males. Mean age was $41.8{\pm}SD$ 12.3 years. Sensitivity and specificity with 95%CI of ultrasound in differentiating malignant thyroid nodule from benign thyroid nodule calculated to be 91.7% (95%CI, 0.72-0.98) and 78.94% (0.68-0.87) respectively. Reported positive predictive value and negative PV were 57.9% (0.41-0.73) and 96.8% (0.88-0.99) and overall accuracy was 82%. Likelihood ratio (LR) positive was computed to be 4.3 and LR negative was 0.1. Conclusions: Ultrasonography has a high diagnostic accuracy in detecting malignancy in thyroid nodules on the basis of features like echogenicity, margins, micro calcifications and shape.

Aim:'Itrifal-e-Sagheer', a compound Unani formulation has been indicated in disease conditions simulating dyslipidemia. The present study was done to substantiate the efficacy of 'Itrifal-e-Sagheer' in dyslipidemia on scientific parameters. Materials and methods: A randomized, single blind, controlled, clinical trial was carried out on 30 patients of dyslipidemia who were randomly allocated into test (n = 15) or control (n = 15) groups. The test drug, Itrifal-e-Sagheer and control drug, Abana® were given to respective group for 45 days along with lifestyle modification. Results: The test drug significantly alleviated the symptoms of subjective parameters (palpitation, breathlessness and weight gain) (p<0.05). There was statistically significant reduction in lipid profile of the patients in test group (p<0.05) than control drug treatment. Conclusion: The study evidenced that Itrifal-e-Sagheer is potentially effective and safe in the treatment of dyslipidemia. However, a multicentric study with robust study design is required to generalize the results.

Background: Hypertension is one of the major risk factors for stroke, heart attack, heart failure and kidney failure, thereby causing deaths and disability world-wide. The most predominant type of HTN is essential hypertension (HTN). Unani scholars have mentioned about the clinical manifestations and management of the hypertension and documented it in the context of 'Imtila'. The drug Sankhaholi (Evolvulus alsinoides Linn.) is one of the widely prescribed medicines for the management of essential hypertension in Unani medicine. Material and Methods: The present clinical study was carried out to evaluate the safety of Sankhaholi (Evolvulus alsinoides Linn.) in the management of stage-1 essential hypertension. Newly diagnosed 41 patients of Essential Hypertension (22 patients were in the test group and 19 patients in the control group) were enrolled for the study. All the patients in the test group were given with the test drug 3 g powder of Sankhaholi twice a day for 6 weeks orally. Patients in the control group were given standard drug Ramipril 5 mg once a day for the same duration. Clinical as well as hematological parameters were recorded before and after the treatment. Results: No significant changes are recorded in safety parameters viz. CBC, Haemogram, LFT and KFT. Clinically no adverse effect of the drug has been reported during the course of treatment. Also, significant effect on the systolic blood pressure (p<0.001) were recorded in test group. The drug Sankhaholi was also found effective on the symptoms associated with hypertension. Conclusion: The finding of the study revealed that the test drug Sankhaholi (Evolvulus alsinoides Linn.) is safe and has substantial efficacy as an antihypertensive drug.

Background: The DNA repair gene XRCC1 Arg399Gln gene polymorphism has been found to be implicated in the development of various cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC), in different populations. We aimed to determine any association of this polymorphism with the risk of CRC in Kashmir. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 confirmed cases of CRC and 146 healthy cancer free controls from the Kashmiri population were included in this study. Genotyping was carried out by the polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method. Results: Genotype frequencies of XRCC1 Arg399Gln observed in controls were 34.2%, 42.5% and 23.3% for GG (Arg/Arg), GA (Arg/Gln), AA( Gln/Gln), respectively, and 28.3%, 66.7% and 5% in cases, with an odds ratio (OR)=5.7 and 95% confidence interval (CI) =2.3-14.1 (p=0.0001). No significant association of Arg399Gln SNP with any clinicopathological parameters of CRC was found. Conclusions: We found the protective role of 399Gln allele against risk to the development of CRC. The XRCC1 heterozygote status appears to be a strong risk factor for CRC development in the Kashmiri population.

La-promoted Ni/γ-Al2O3 catalyst for autothermal reforming of methane
Mahmood Alam Khan,Seong Ihl Woo 한국화학공학회 2014 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.31 No.7
Autothermal reforming (ATR) of methane over the synthesized catalysts of 10Ni-2La/γ-Al2O3, 10Ni-2Ce/γ-Al2O3, 10Ni-2Co/γ-Al2O3 was investigated in the temperature range of 600-800 oC for the hydrogen production. Thesequence of 2 wt% metal loading on nickel alumina support in relation to their catalytic performance was observedas La>Ce>Co. The excellent activity and selectivity of 10Ni-2La/γ-Al2O3 was superior to other catalysts owing tolittle carbon deposition (~2.23 mg coke/gcat·h), high surface area and good dispersion and stability in the alumina support. The reforming of methane was inferred to be initiated by the decomposition of hydrocarbon at the inlet zone, precededby the reforming reactions in the catalyst bed. Our result shows that it can be possible to achieve the H2/CO ratiooptimal to the GTL processes by controlling the O2/CH4 ratio of the feed inlet. The addition of oxygen to the feed inletenhanced conversion efficiency substantially; probably, it favors the re-oxidation of carbonaceous residues formed overthe catalyst surfaces, avoiding the catalyst deactivation and hence promoting catalyst stability.
