      • Enhancement of Borneo’s Indegenous Design

Khairul Aidil Azlin Abd Rahman 대한인간공학회 2008 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2008 No.10

has been generally recognized that the various ethnicities in Borneo with different backgrounds had made Borneo a place of cultural diversity. However as time passed, most indigenous products are no longer in used or are stored in poor condition. Most products nearly aged over a century are still in a good condition with invaluable sentiments. Indigenous product is an artifact that had been designed and used by certain community of people such as tools, clothing, crafts and goods. Each design may have its own identity to the community. Some of the indigenous products which are no longer in use at present are kept by the community as their collections. The research reveals similarities in the interests of indigenousproducts, concerns and realities of indigenous communities from the different regions. The study suggeststhat learning about indigenous materials, such as hand-made products and machine-made products is necessary for the local industry to develop a product identity that is distinctly local. Most indigenous products show evidence of connections to old traditions, yet are new to the design market.

Product Design Development : Recycle Strategy for Sogo Industries Waste in Malaysia

        ( Khairul Aidil Azlin Abd Rahman ),( Noorhaizat Sundin ) 한국산업디자이너협회(한국인더스트리얼디자인학회) 2008 산업디자인학연구 Vol.2 No.4

Sago cultivation is a prospectus resource availability consideration. The area under sago cultivation in wild and semi-wild condition is estimated at 19,720 hectares with a total planted area of 28,000 hectares. Sago cultivation provides an alternative way to create crop fields from tropical peat swamps forests and to produce sago starch which is a major staple food as it is a valuable source of carbohydrate in the making of noodles, white bread, and sago pearls (similar to tapioca). Other industries that make extensive use of sago are the monosodium glutamate industry, the soft drink industry in the making of various syrups and the glue industry involved in plywood manufacture. New uses for sago include its use in the manufacture of biodegradable plastics, alcohol, ethanol and citric acid. However, these sago production industries produces an abundant volume of agricultural waste in form of sago barks which is usually destroyed through open burning or control burning instead of reprocessing it into beneficial products. Meanwhile the sago residues were discharged into the river nearby. This condition indirectly can cause of water pollution and the river will become shallow.

      • Wealth Creation through Service Innovation Design in Malaysia

Khairul Aidil Azlin Abd Rahman,Ahmad Zuhairi abdul Majid,Nazlina Shaari 한국디자인학회 2010 한국디자인학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.10

30 Best Practices of Design Management that Contribute Towards Knowledge Conversion.

        ( Khairul Aidil Azlin Abd Rahman ) 한국산업디자이너협회(한국인더스트리얼디자인학회) 2010 산업디자인학연구 Vol.4 No.4

Design management is the application of process of management to the process of innovation and design. This has strong relationship with organization structure. Design requires monitoring and control mechanism, standard and policies are necessary to ensure that design is consistent and maintain a recognized degree of quality. Design management is effective deployment by line managers of design resources available to an organization in the pursuit of its corporate objectives (Gorb 1990). It is therefore directly concerned with the organizational place of design, with the identification of specific design disciplines, which are relevant to the resolution of key management issues, and the training of managers to use design effectively. The knowledge creation process is comprised by sharing tacit knowledge, creating concept, justifying concept, building a prototype and cross-leveling knowledge (Krogh, Ichijo, Nonaka 2000). This process is similar with design process, which is being practiced by industrial designers in creating a new product, as per say new knowledge. The role of design expends because of the power inherent to the design process itself. It is a power that focuses from vision and visualization when proposing visual concept and what method to make industrial designers translate knowledge into explicit form. Moreover, the important aspect of knowledge creation is how a designer or a group of designers stimulate their minds. Therefore, knowledge stimulation activities are the key factors to recall experiences and enhance the creation of knowledge.
