Experimental study on oscillating flow steam engine in a single micro tube
Kanno, Hiroshi,Han, Youngbae,Shikazono, Naoki Elsevier 2017 Experimental thermal and fluid science Vol.81 No.-
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Oscillating flow steam engine can be a cost-effective solution for recovering work from waste heat due to its structural simplicity. In the present study, the effects of design parameters and operating conditions of oscillating flow steam engine such as tube diameter, heating section temperature, cooling section length ratio and compression ratio are experimentally investigated. The pressure variation due to boiling and condensation induces a continuous oscillating flow in a single micro tube, which can generate work using crank-piston system. The indicated work and cycle efficiency both increase as the heating section temperature and compression ratio are increased. The investigated oscillating flow steam engine achieved indicated work of 1W with the cycle efficiency of <I>η</I> =5% at <I>T</I> heat =230°C and <I>T</I> cool =80°C in a <I>D</I> =1.0mm tube.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Oscillating flow steam engine is investigated for waste heat recovery. </LI> <LI> Experimental setup for oscillating flow steam engine in a single micro tube is made. </LI> <LI> Effects of several parameters on heat engine are investigated experimentally. </LI> <LI> Current heat engine achieved 1W work and 5% efficiency between 230°C and 80°C. </LI> </UL> </P>
Holographic dual of de Sitter universe with AdS bubbles
Kanno, S.,Sasaki, M.,Soda, J. North Holland 2012 Nuclear Physics, Section B Vol.855 No.2
We study the proposal that a de Sitter (dS) universe with an Anti-de Sitter (AdS) bubble can be replaced by a dS universe with a boundary CFT. To explore this duality, we consider incident gravitons coming from the dS universe through the bubble wall into the AdS bubble in the original picture. In the dual picture, this process has to be identified with the absorption of gravitons by CFT matter. We have obtained a general formula for the absorption probability in general d+1 spacetime dimensions. The result shows the different behavior depending on whether spacetime dimensions are even or odd. We find that the absorption process of gravitons from the dS universe by CFT matter is controlled by localized gravitons (massive bound state modes in the Kaluza-Klein decomposition) in the dS universe. The absorption probability is determined by the effective degrees of freedom of the CFT matter and the effective gravitational coupling constant which encodes information of localized gravitons. We speculate that the dual of (d+1)-dimensional dS universe with an AdS bubble is also dual to a d-dimensional dS universe with CFT matter.
Ellipsoidal bounds for static response of framed structures against interactive uncertainties
Kanno, Yoshihiro,Takewaki, Izuru Techno-Press 2008 Interaction and multiscale mechanics Vol.1 No.1
This paper presents an optimization-based method for computing a minimal bounding ellipsoid that contains the set of static responses of an uncertain braced frame. Based on a non-stochastic modeling of uncertainty, we assume that the parameters both of brace stiffnesses and external forces are uncertain but bounded. A brace member represents the sum of the stiffness of the actual brace and the contributions of some non-structural elements, and hence we assume that the axial stiffness of each brace is uncertain. By using the $\mathcal{S}$-lemma, we formulate a semidefinite programming (SDP) problem which provides an outer approximation of the minimal bounding ellipsoid. The minimum bounding ellipsoids are computed for a braced frame under several uncertain circumstances.

The Dunganese, Muslims sinocized perhaps from Persian and Arabic founders after repeated racial mixtures who went from Gansu and Shanxi to Russian territory of Turkestan, i.e. nowaday’s Kyrgyzstan, Qazaqstan and O’zbekiston in the latter half of the 19th century use one of the northern dialects of Chinese, which they call dunganskij jazyk and write in Cyrillic script. Good amounts of the Dunganese language property have been accumulated through translations from Russian papers, radio and school education in the Soviet Union period, while Soviet Dunganese speakers and Putong hua speakers cannot communicate with each others. Resemblances in phonemic aspects between Dunganese and the language of “Xiaoerjin (小兒錦)”, the explanatory books of Islamic discipline written chiefly in the language of the Muslims in the northern parts of China and in Arabic script, which were collected by the Institute for Languages and Cultures, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, are pointed out in this paper.

Background/Aims: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the predictive value of localized stenosis of the main pancreatic duct (MPD) forearly detection of pancreatic cancer. Methods: Among 689 patients who underwent endoscopic retrograde pancreatography from January 2008 to September 2018, 19patients with MPD findings were enrolled. These patients showed findings for indicating suspicious pancreatic cancer at an early stage(FiCE); FiCE was defined as a single, localized stenosis in the MPD without a detectable mass (using any other imaging methods) andwithout other pancreatic diseases, such as definite chronic pancreatitis, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm, and autoimmunepancreatitis. Final diagnoses were established by examining resected specimens or through follow-up examinations after an interval of>5 years. Results: Among 19 patients with FiCE, 11 underwent surgical resection and 8 were evaluated after a >5-year observation period. Thefinal diagnosis of the MPD stenosis was judged to be pancreatic cancer in 9 patients (47%), including 3 with intraepithelial cancer, andto be a non-neoplastic change in 10. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of preoperative pancreatic juice cytology were 75%, 100%,and 88%, respectively. Conclusions: The predictive value of FiCE for pancreatic cancer prevalence was 47%. Histological confirmation with pancreatic juicecytology is necessary before surgical resection.
