Breeding of New Productive Bivoltine Hybrid, CSR12×CSR6 of Silkworm Bombyx mori L.

        ( R. K. Datta ),( H. K. Basavaraja ),( N. Mal Reddy ),( S. Nirmal Kumar ),( N. Suresh Kumar ),( M. Ramesh Babu ),( M. M. Ahsan ),( K. P. Jayaswal ) 한국잠사학회 2001 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.3 No.2

With an objective of evolving quantitatively and qualitatively superior bivoltine breeds/hybrids of silkworm Bombyx mori L. for tropical conditions, breeding work was initiated in Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute, Mysore during 1992 by utilizing two Japanese hybrids namely BNl8×BCS25 and Shunrei×Shogetsu along with Indian evolved breed, KA. The breed CSR12 which is characterized with sex-limited larval marking and white oval cocoons was evolved from the Japanese hybrid BNl8×BCS25 by crossing with KA, while the breed CSR6 which is characterized with normal marking (marked larvae) and white dumbbell cocoons was extracted from the Japanese commercial hybrid Shunrei×Shogetsu through continuous inbreeding coupled with selection. After fixation, these breeds along with other newly evolved breeds were subjected to hybrid study under optimum environmental conditions in the laboratory for expression of full potential of the genotypes. These hybrids were evaluated by Multiple Trait Evaluation Index (Mano et al., 1993). The hybrid CSR12×CSR6 was selected based multiple trait evaluation index value. The hybrid CSR12×CSR6 recorded survival of 96.0%, shell weight of 50.0 cg, shell ratio of 24.3%, raw silk percentage of 19.6, filament length of 1,216 m, boil off loss of 22.4% and renditta of 5.1. On the other hand, the control hybrid (KA×NB4D2) has recorded survival of 90.6%, shell weight of 42.1 cg, shell ratio of 20.4%, raw silk percentage of 15.9, filament length of 999 m, boil off loss of 24.8% and renditta of 6.3. The hybrid CSR12×CSR6 was authorized during 1997 by Central Silk Board, Government of India for commercial exploitation during favourable months based on national level race authorization test.

An attempt to improve the poor performance characteristics of coconut oil for industrial lubricants

        Suresh Babu Valeru,Y. Srinivas,K. N. S. Suman 대한기계학회 2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.4

Coconut oil is used as the base fluid for metal cutting applications because of its high natural properties compared to other vegetable oils. The major hindrances to extensive utilization of coconut oil compared to mineral oils for various metal cutting operations are its high pour point, low oxidation and thermal stability therefore further improvement in these aspects is much needed. In this work, a systematic approach to improve the cold flow behavior, oxidation and thermal stability of the coconut oil by the combination of chemical additive i.e 2,6 Di-tetra butyl phenol and diluents such as Poly alpha olefin4(PAO4), Poly (Ethylene co-vinyl acetate) (PPD) has been carried out. Based on the obtained results an improvement of cold flow behavior (least pour point) was observed with the addition of PAO4 and PPD with varying weight percentage combinations. Apart from this addition of 2, 6 Di-tetra butyl phenol as anti-oxidant (AO) in various weight percentage has led to an improvement of oxidation and thermal stability to the primarily modified coconut oil.

Mn Doped CuO Nanoparticles Synthesized by Spray Pyrolysis: Structural, Optical and Magnetic Characterization

Ch. Hemalatha,K. Suresh Babu,G. Narsinga Rao 한국자기학회 2020 Journal of Magnetics Vol.25 No.3

Pure and Mn (2.5 %, 5 % and 10 %) doped CuO nanoparticles were synthesized via chemical process of ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. The crystal structure and grain size of the particles were determined using XRD. The optical properties of the samples were investigated using UV- Visible spectroscopy. The SEM micrographs revealed the surface morphology of sphere-shaped particles in all samples. The ZFC magnetization exhibits a sharp peak at 32 K and the FC magnetization saturated below this peak temperature. This is a characteristic feature of typical spin-glass behavior. In addition, the AC conductivity curves show an increasing conductivity value with increasing Mn content. The enhanced conductivity is due to the Mn doping in CuO induce defects in grain boundary.

Optimization of process parameters in friction stir welding of aluminium matrix SiC-Al2O3 composites by genetic algorithm

        P. Gopi Krishnan,B. Suresh Babu,K. Siva 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2020 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.21 No.2

Friction stir welding (FSW) grabs more attention since the past decade among the researchers worldwide due to its excellentcharacteristics such as no emission of fumes, no filler material, comparatively economical and so on. Friction stir weldingis effectively used in bringing better joint without any appreciable defects in light materials such as Aluminium, Magnesiumetc., Experiments in FSW of materials with high density such as steel, copper alloys etc., have also been tried out. Theselection of proper welding parameters determines a good weldment. In this work, Aluminium matrix hybrid compositewas manufactured through stir casting with the matrix AA7010 and reinforcements SiC and Al2O3. The hybrid compositeworkpieces were subjected to friction stir welding process by varying the process parameters such as tool rotation speed, welding speed and axial force using Taguchi L27 orthogonal array. Tensile strength of FS welded composite was examinedand regression analysis was done. Genetic Algorithm technique was used to optimize the weld tensile strength within thedesign space of 53 = 125 alternatives of parametric combinations. The study focuses on the improvement of the tensilestrength of the welded specimens.

        Pridhar T,Ravikumar. K,Suresh Babu B,Srinivasan R,Sathishkumar. B 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2020 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.21 No.2

Aluminium hybrid metal matrix composites comprises of Al alloy embedded with multiple hard particulates to improve thewear characteristics. In this study Al 7075/Al2O3/B4C hybrid composite was fabricated with 5 wt.% B4C particles addition and2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 wt.% of Al2O3 by liquid metallurgy route. The dry sliding wear behaviour of hybrid composites wasinvestigated under various sliding parameters using a pin on disc tribometer. Numerical models were developed to predict thefrictional and wear characteristics of the composites. Analysis of variance method and confirmation experiments wereemployed to validate the adequacy of the developed model. The composites with high particle content exhibits better wearresistance at various sliding conditions. Detailed metallurgical investigations were carried out on the on worn surface. Thewear rate was severe at higher loads due to the crater formation and in addition to abrasive wear. The wear rate andcoefficient of friction were optimized using desirability based multi criteria optimization technique.

Photoluminescence and photocatalytic studies of rice water and papaya fruit extract-encapsulated cadmium sulfide nanoparticles

        Bandaru Srinivasa Goud,Yathapu Suresh,Sathiraju Annapurna,Ganghishetti Bhikshamaiah,Mangalarapu Tarun Babu,Singh A. K. 한국세라믹학회 2023 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.60 No.1

Natural extracts can act as potential sources for the synthesis of nanoparticles in non-hazardous ways. The stabilization of nanoparticles can be done by any sufficiently large, quasi-polar, organic molecule. In the present study, cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdSNPs) encapsulated by natural extract have been synthesized via green chemical reduction route that uses natural stabilizers such as rice water, papaya fruit extracts and precursors such as cadmium chloride, cadmium nitrate, and cadmium sulfate. Different experimental techniques such as X-ray Diffraction (XRD), UV Visible Absorption Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy-Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Small Angle X-ray Spectroscopy (SAXS), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) are used to confirm that the as-prepared samples contain cubic crystalline CdSNPs with average size less than 20 nm and a thin natural molecule layer developed on their surface. The luminescence properties of as-prepared CdSNPs are studied through photoluminescence measurements. The photoluminescence spectra of the CdSNPs have exhibited one broad peak along with shoulders on either side of it. Cadmium sulfide nanomaterials that belong to the II–VI group are known for their photocatalytic applications due to their efficient physical properties along with wide bandgap energy. Further, the as-prepared CdSNPs have exhibited their potentiality in degrading Methylene Blue (MB), and Rhodamine B (RhB) which can be attributed to their mixed phase.

Design of a Fingerprint Template Protection Scheme using Elliptical Structures

        Ilaiah Kavati,A. Mallikarjuna Reddy,E. Suresh Babu,K. Sudheer Reddy,Ramalinga Swamy Cheruku 한국통신학회 2021 ICT Express Vol.7 No.4

Although biometric authentication is viewed as more prominent than password or token-based methodology in identity verification, biometric templates are vulnerable to attacks. This paper proposes a new approach for securing fingerprint templates using elliptical structures generated from the fingerprint minutiae. Authors generate a feature vector from the ellipse and will be projected onto a 3D-space to compute a binary string. The resultant binary string is transformed to frequency domain (DFT) and multiplied with a user specific random matrix to make it permanently non-invertible and secure. The results show the efficacy of the proposed method for protecting the fingerprints.

Cytotoxicity and Proteasome Inhibition by Alkaloid Extract from Murraya koenigii Leaves in Breast Cancer Cells—Molecular Docking Studies

        Ayesha Ismail,Bindu Noolu,Ramesh Gogulothu,Shyam Perugu,Ajumeera Rajanna,Suresh K. Babu 한국식품영양과학회 2016 Journal of medicinal food Vol.19 No.12

Murraya koenigii (curry tree) leaves are rich in bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and coumarins. Alkaloids from M. koenigii leaves have antianalgesic, antiulcerogenic, antiobesity, and antitumor activities. In this study, we tested the cytotoxic and proteasome-inhibitory potential of a total alkaloid extract (TAE) from M. koenigii leaves in the breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231. The TAE decreased cell viability with an IC50 of 14.4 μg/mL and altered growth kinetics of breast cancer cells. TAE (32 μg/mL) arrested cells (35%) in the “S” phase of the cell cycle and induced apoptosis. The 26S proteasome, a multicatalytic protease complex, promotes tumor cell proliferation and protects tumor cells from apoptosis. The TAE and mahanine, a carbazole alkaloid present in M. koenigii leaves, preferentially inhibited the trypsin-like, but not the chymotrypsin-like proteolytic activity of the proteasome with an IC50 of 162 μg/mL and 287 μM, respectively. In silico analysis of 26 compounds from M. koenigii leaves revealed significant docking scores for mahanine and two other carbazole alkaloids with the β2 and β5 subunits of the catalytic 20S proteasome. Taken together, this study demonstrates that inhibition of the proteasome is an important biological activity of M. koenigii alkaloids, which may lead to cancer cell death.
