Vol.24 No.1

As correlation between financial development and real sector development is weakening in Korea recently, we are observing disparity between finance and growth. This paper reviews and evaluates potential factors causing this observed disparity. We further analyze the relationship between financial deepening and economic growth, and check for the possibility of excessive finance based on analyses using Korean industry-level panel data. We find that risk aversion tendency of firms, growing dependence on internal funds, structural weakness of the financial system, increasing allocative inefficency of finance, and growing dependence on household lending are the factors which may potentially explain this gap. The empirical results show that benefits from financial deepening are weak or insignificant. The findings in this study show that we cannot expect growth induced from further financial deepening in Korea.

Automatic Generation of MAEC and STIX Standards for Android Malware Threat Intelligence

( Jungsoo Park ),( Long Nguyen Vu ),( George Bencivengo ),( Souhwan Jung ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.8

Due to the increasing number of malicious software (also known as malware), methods for sharing threat information are being studied by various organizations. The Malware Attribute Enumeration and Characterization (MAEC) format of malware is created by analysts, converted to Structured Threat Information Expression (STIX), and distributed by using Trusted Automated eXchange of Indicator Information (TAXII) protocol. Currently, when sharing malware analysis results, analysts have to manually input them into MAEC. Not many analysis results are shared publicly. In this paper, we propose an automated MAEC conversion technique for sharing analysis results of malicious Android applications. Upon continuous research and study of various static and dynamic analysis techniques of Android Applications, we developed a conversion tool by classifying parts that can be converted automatically through MAEC standard analysis, and parts that can be entered manually by analysts. Also using MAEC-to-STIX conversion, we have discovered that the MAEC file can be converted into STIX. Although other researches have been conducted on automatic conversion techniques of MAEC, they were limited to Windows and Linux only. In further verification of the conversion rate, we confirmed that analysts could improve the efficiency of analysis and establish a faster sharing system to cope with various Android malware using our proposed technique.

      • Cage Design Development for Low Oil Agitation Torque using CFD

        Jungsoo, Park(박정수),Jeongsik, Kim(김정식),Junhwan, Hwang(황준환),Changgi Lee(이창기) 한국자동차공학회 2022 한국자동차공학회 부문종합 학술대회 Vol.2022 No.6

In the high speed ball bearing used to EV motor, the friction torque reduction is the essential design factor for fuel efficiency of power train system. In contradiction with friction torques such as a loaded dependent torque from rolling element and a frictional torque due to EHL, the standardization of friction torque of oil agitation torque is limited due to variable cage design. It would be available to verify test. Recently the implement of CFD has been reduced the time consumption of cage development by reducing test verification. This study utilizes CFD in order to expedite development of cage for high speed ball bearing. The simplified model of CFD is based on previous research in this study and a new cage design develop by utilizing CFD. In this approach, the developed cage design is available to show the friction torque reduction in the friction torque test.

Modeling and Control of VSI type FACTS controllers for Power System Dynamic Stability using the current injection method

Jungsoo Park,Gilsoo Jang,Kwang M. Son 대한전기학회 2008 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.6 No.4

This paper describes modeling Voltage Sourced Inverter (VSI) type Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) controllers and control methods for power system dynamic stability studies. The considered FACTS controllers are the Static Compensator (STATCOM), the Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC), and the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC). In this paper, these FACTS controllers are derived in the current injection model, and it is applied to the linear and nonlinear analysis algorithm for power system dynamics studies. The parameters of the FACTS controllers are set to damp the inter-area oscillations, and the supplementary damping controllers and its control schemes are proposed to increase damping abilities of the FACTS controllers. For these works, the linear analysis for each FACTS controller with or without damping controller is executed, and the dynamic characteristics of each FACTS controller are analyzed. The results are verified by the nonlinear analysis using the time-domain simulation.

Matching Conditions on Right Peripheral Ellipsis: An Experimental Perspective

        Jungsoo Kim,Sang-Hee Park 한국중원언어학회 2020 언어학연구 Vol.0 No.57

This study presents experimental results on honorification and tense mismatches in Korean Right Peripheral Ellipsis (RPE), a type of coordinate ellipsis in which the main predicate and optionally its dependents are missing in non-final conjuncts. Using acceptability judgment tasks, we tested competing hypotheses to determine whether and to what extent honorification and tense mismatches affect the acceptability of RPE sentences. Experiment results indicate that both honorification- and tense-mismatched RPE sentences are less acceptable than their grammatical unRPEed sources, but there was a crucial difference: the acceptability of honorification-mismatched RPE sentences was closer to that of their grammatical unRPEed counterparts, but the acceptability of tense-mismatched RPE sentences was closer to that of their ungrammatical unRPEed counterparts (Experiment 1). The results also suggest that the low acceptability of tense-mismatched RPE sentences is likely to indicate the effects of tense mismatches and not of ellipsis (Experiment 2). These results reject the widespread assumption that morphological mismatches in RPE are acceptable (Ahn & Cho, 2006; Park, 2009; Kim & Cho, 2012) and have implications for theories of honorification and tense.

      • Measurements of velocity and temperature fields in natural convective flows

Park, Hanwook,Park, Jungsoo,Jung, Sung Yong Elsevier 2019 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER - Vol.139 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The velocity and temperature fields of natural convective flows in a water pool simulating a simple passive safety system are experimentally investigated using particle image velocimetry and laser-induced fluorescence. Typical natural convective flows, large-scale circulation (LSC), and a vertical thermal plume are indicated by the mean velocity fields. The initial developing height of the vortex flows in a confined space corresponds to that of the LSC center in a broad space. The mean temperature clearly represents the thermal stratification. The high-temperature zone well matches the high-velocity region below the LSC center, where no significant energy dissipation occurs. The local Grashof number and Richardson number are examined. The results indicate that shear and inertia play similar roles to that of buoyancy, except with regard to the mean flow near the heater in a confined space. The regions of significant energy transfer due to shear and heat are near the free surface and middle layer, respectively. To investigate the energy transfer between the mean flow and turbulence, the turbulent energy production is determined. The results show that energy dissipated from the thermal plume to the turbulence drives the LSC and vortex flows.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Velocity and temperature of natural convection are measured using PIV and LIF. </LI> <LI> Large-scale circulation and vertical thermal plume are observed. </LI> <LI> Developing height of vortex corresponds to that of LSC center in different views. </LI> <LI> The significant regions of energy transfers by shear and heat are different. </LI> <LI> Energy, from the thermal plume to turbulence, drives LSC and vortex flows. </LI> </UL> </P>

Numerical study of the performance and NOx emission of a diesel-methanol dual-fuel engine using multi-objective Pareto optimization

        Park, Sangjun,Cho, Jungkeun,Park, Jungsoo,Song, Soonho Pergamon Press 2017 Energy Vol.124 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The effect of methanol addition on the performance and NOx emission of a diesel engine was investigated using one-dimensional engine cycle simulation. The methanol component was injected into the intake manifold of a diesel engine at a certain energy fraction (0, 5, 10, or 15%) of the fuel. The in-cylinder pressure and temperature decreased as the methanol content increased due to the lower cetane number and lower heating value of methanol. The resulting decrease in the combustion efficiency lowered the NOx emission and brake thermal efficiency of the engine, and consequently deteriorated the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC). The BSFC decreased but the NOx emission increased with advanced injection timing under dual-fuel operating conditions. Response surface plots of the BSFC and NOx emission as a function of the injection timing and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate were obtained using a design of experiment method. The optimal Pareto fronts that improved both the BSFC and NOx emission were found. The EGR rate had a greater influence on the optimal Pareto front than the injection timing, which suggested that design parameters such as the injection timing and EGR rate could be used to control the performance and emission under various duel-fuel conditions.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The performance and emission of a diesel-methanol dual-fuel engine is investigated. </LI> <LI> The BSFC of the diesel engine is deteriorated as the methanol content increased. </LI> <LI> The NOx emission of the diesel engine is reduced as the methanol content increased. </LI> <LI> Both the BSFC and NOx emission are improved by multi-objective Pareto optimization. </LI> <LI> Design parameters are suggested to control the performance of the dual-fuel engine. </LI> </UL> </P>
