<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We investigated the ferroelectricity in proton-irradiated flexible Pb(Zr<SUB>0.52</SUB>Ti<SUB>0.48</SUB>)O<SUB>3</SUB> (PZT) thick films and their non-volatile memory characteristics. The Ni-Cr metal foil substrate allowed high-quality polycrystalline PZT films with flexible functionality to be fabricated using conventional sol-gel and high-temperature annealing methods. The 10-MeV proton-irradiated PZT film exhibited an almost square polarization−electric field hysteresis curve with saturated (<I>P</I> <SUB>s</SUB>) and remnant (<I>P</I> <SUB> <I>r</I> </SUB>) polarizations of 18.9 and 17.0 μC/cm<SUP>2</SUP>, respectively; which are slightly lower than as-grown PZT with <I>P</I> <SUB>s</SUB> = 28.7 μC/cm<SUP>2</SUP> and <I>P</I> <SUB> <I>r</I> </SUB> = 24.3 μC/cm<SUP>2</SUP>. The <I>P</I> <SUB> <I>r</I> </SUB> did not decrease even after 1000 cycles of continuous bending and unbending at a bending radius of 2.14 mm and decreased slightly to ∼80% of its initial value after 10<SUP>5</SUP> s. Although the <I>P</I> <SUB> <I>r</I> </SUB> decreased to ∼55% after 10<SUP>10</SUP> cycles, the electric polarization remained switchable under positive and negative electric fields. These characteristics suggest that the flexible PZT films could be utilized in non-volatile memory device applications in environments with high doses of proton irradiation, such as those in aeronautics and nuclear power plants.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Sol-gel growth of flexible PZT thick films on a Ni-Cr metal foil substrate. </LI> <LI> Large saturated and remnant electric polarization in proton-irradiated films. </LI> <LI> Mechanical stability, long retention time, and high fatigue resistance even after the high energy proton-irradiation. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Objective: This study was performed to determine the effects of stress after road transportation and oral administration of chromium and meloxicam on growth performance, plasma cortisol, serum metabolites, and behavior in dairy calves.Methods: A total of 50 Holstein heifers (average body weight [BW]: 172±4.19 kg; average age: 5.53±0.12 months) were randomly assigned to five groups including NL (not transported + D-lactose; 1 mg/kg BW), TL (transported + D-lactose; 1 mg/kg BW), TC (transported + chromium; 0.5 mg/kg dry matter [DM] feed), TM (transported + meloxicam; 1 mg/kg BW), and TMC (transported + combination of meloxicam and chromium; 1 mg/kg BW and 0.5 mg/kg DM, respectively). Doses of D-lactose monohydrate, meloxicam, and chromium were prepared for oral administration by suspension in 15 mL of water in a 20-mL dosing syringe. Blood was collected before transportation, immediately after 120 km of transportation (IAT), and at 6, 24, and 48 h after transportation.Results: Neither transportation nor administration of meloxicam and/or chromium affected (p = 0.99) average daily gain and feed intake. Plasma cortisol concentrations in the NL group (average 0.13 and 0.18 nmol/L, respectively) were lower (p<0.001) compared to the TL group (average 0.39 and 0.61 nmol/L, respectively) at IAT and 48 h after transportation. At 48 h after transportation, cortisol concentrations were lower (p<0.05) in the TC group (average 0.22 nmol/L) than in the TL group (average 0.61 nmol/L), and TC calves had similar cortisol concentrations to NL calves. Lying duration (min/d) was shorter (p<0.05) in the TL group than in the NL group at 2 d after transportation. Lying duration was longer (p<0.05) for the TC and TMC groups than for the TL group at 2 d after transportation.Conclusion: Transportation increased cortisol concentrations and affected lying behavior, while chromium administration reduced cortisol concentrations and changed lying behavior. Thus, chromium administration before transportation may be a viable strategy to alleviate stress elicited by road transportation.

Wearable devices and IoT are being utilized in various fields, where all systems are developing in the direction of multi-functionality, low power consumption, and high speed. In this paper, we propose a DC -DC Step-down C onverter for IoT smart devices. The proposed DC -DC Step-down converter is composed of a control block of the power supply stage. It also consists of an overheat protection circuit, under-voltage protection circuit, an overvoltage protection circuit, a soft start circuit, a reference voltage circuit, a lamp generator, an error amplifier, and a hysteresis comparator. The proposed DC-DC converter was designed and fabricated using a Magnachip / Hynix 180nm CMOS process, 1-poly 6-metal, the measured results showed a good match with the simulation results.

This study highlights the advantages of colored building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) systems that can generate power and renovate obsolete public-school buildings. Multicolored BIPV systems were installed in two school buildings and monitored for a specific period to verify their power generation, and power generation data were analyzed together with the solar radiation data from that location. The results from this study can be used to contribute to the widespread adoption of BIPV systems in school buildings in the future.

<B>Summary</B><P>Octamer-binding transcription factor 4 (Oct4) is a critical molecule for the self-renewal and pluripotency of embryonic stem cells. Recent reports have shown that Oct4 also controls cell-cycle progression and enhances the proliferation of various types of cells. As the high proliferation of donor fibroblasts is critical to the production of transgenic pigs, using the somatic cell nuclear transfer technique, we analysed the effect of Oct4 overexpression on the proliferation of porcine fibroblasts and embryos. Porcine endogenous Oct4 cDNA was cloned, sequenced and inserted into an expression vector. The vector was transfected into porcine fibroblasts, and a stable Oct4-overexpressed cell line was established by antibiotic selection. Oct4 expression was validated by the immunostaining of Oct4. Cell morphology was changed to sharp, and both proliferation and migration abilities were enhanced in Oct4-overexpressed cells. Real-time RT-PCR results showed that <I>p16</I>, <I>Bcl2</I> and <I>Myc</I> were upregulated in Oct4-overexpressed cells. Somatic cell nuclear transfer was performed using Oct4-overexpressed cells, and the development of Oct4 embryos was compared with that of wild-type cloned embryos. The cleavage and blastocyst formation rates were improved in the Oct4 embryos. Interestingly, blastocyst formation of the Oct4 embryos was observed as early as day 5 in culture, while blastocysts were observed from day 6 in wild-type cloned embryos. In conclusion, the overexpression of Oct4 enhanced the proliferation of both porcine fibroblasts and embryos.</P>

Objective: We have tested our hypothesis that inclusion of purified glycerol as a replacer of portions of dried distillers grain with solubles (DDGS) would affect growth performance, rumen fermentation and blood parameters, carcass and sensory traits, reducing sugar and glycogen contents, and volatile compound profiles in longissimus thoracis (LT) in Korean cattle steers. Methods: A total of 20 Korean cattle steers (27.0±0.2 months old; 647±10.5 kg body weight [BW]) were assigned to a conventional control group or a glycerol group (3.17% purified glycerol addition as a replacement for DDGS and molasses). The steers were individually allowed to receive the experimental concentrate at the daily amount of 1.5% of their individual BW and a total 1.0 of kg/d of rice straw twice daily. The feeding trial was conducted for a period of 20 weeks. Results: Glycerol supplementation (GS) increased (p = 0.001) concentrate intake. However, GS did not affect (p>0.05) average daily gain, feed efficiency, and ruminal volatile fatty acid concentrations. GS tended to increase (p≤0.10) serum glucose concentrations at the 16th and 20th weeks. GS decreased (p = 0.001) LT pH. GS did not affect (p>0.05) carcass traits and the chemical or physicochemical compositions, reducing sugar or glycogen contents, sensory traits, and most of volatile compounds in the LT. Conclusion: The inclusion of purified glycerol as a replacement for DDGS in the finishing diet did not affect growth performance, rumen fermentation parameters, and carcass quality in Korean cattle. The purified glycerol could be used as a substitute for other energy sources such as DDGS in beef cattle, depending on the price. 연구 목적은 한국에 만연한 외모지상주의의 사회적 문제를 사람들에게 인식시키기 위해 물의 자연적 특성을 이용하여 외면적 아름다움의 덧없음을 표현하는데 있다. 아울러 본 연구는 향후 사회문제를 다루는 공간연출 및 공간전시디자인에 기초자료로서 활용 할 가치가 있다. 연구 대상과 범위는 2016년 9월~12월까지 진행된 숙명여자대학교 환경디자인학과 전시디스플레이디자인 교과목으로 한다. 이는 미술사와 철학을 융합한 `미학 오딧세이` 중 `아름다운 가상`을 주제로 하여 모리츠 애셔의 <낮과 밤>에 나오는 이율배반성의 개념으로 한정한다. 연구 방법은 첫째, 외모지상주의에 대한 사례조사와 아름다운 가상에서의 진정한 아름다움을 도출한다. 동시에 이에 맞는 전시 공간 요소에 관해 고찰한다. 둘째, 물을 이용한 전시 디자인 개요(물을 이용한 전시 동향, 사이트 설정, 전시 개요)에 대해 분석한다. 셋째, 물을 이용한 전시 디자인 전략(코딩 다이어그램, 디자인 컨셉, 전시 공간 구성, 컬러 · 메터리얼 계획, 전시 스토리텔링)을 분석한다. 넷째, 전시 컨셉에 부합하는 디자인 표현(로고 디자인, 포스터 디자인, 전시 기념품 디자인, 영상 디자인)을 제안한다. The purpose of the study is to address and bring awareness to the prevalent social problem of Korea, lookism. By using characteristics of the natural elements of water, the study informs the fallacy of outer beauty. In addition, the study is meaningful as primary data for the space direction and space exhibition designs of future exhibitions that encompass social problem-solving. The research subject and scope cover the subject of the course Exhibition Display Design in the Environment and Design Department of Sookmyung Women`s University from September to December, 2016.The study limits its focus to the `Antinomy` from Morit Asher`s "Day andNight” along with the topic of `beautiful imagery` found in the art and philosophy harmonized `Aesthetic Odyssey`. To this end, first, the study examined the direction technique and object elements like the prior study on lookism exhibition and purchase, preference trend in the exhibition types and exhibition space. Second, the study analyzed the design concept of the water exhibition(the exhibition trend, site configuration, exhibition overview).Third, the study analyzed the lookism exhibition design strategy(coding diagram, design concept, exhibition space configuration, color and material, exhibition storytelling). Fourth, the study proposed the exhibition design for the theme lookism(logo, poster, application video).
