      • Streptomyces zhihengii sp. nov., isolated from rhizospheric soil of Psammosilene tunicoides

        <P>An actinomycete strain, designated YIM T102(T), was isolated from the rhizospheric soil of Psammosilene tunicoides W. C. Wu et C. Y. Wu collected from Lijiang, Yunnan Province, China. The taxonomic position of the new isolate was investigated by a polyphasic approach. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain YIM T102(T) belongs to the genus Streptomyces. Strain YIM T102(T) was most closely related to Streptomyces eurocidicus NRRL B-1676(T) with a pairwise 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 98.9 %. However, DNA-DNA relatedness value between strain YIM T102(T) and S. eurocidicus NBRC 13491(T) was found to be 37.8 +/- 1.8 %. The menaquinone composition detected for strain YIM T102(T) was MK-9 (H-6) and MK-9 (H-8), while the major fatty acids were summed feature 4 (38.0 %), anteiso-C-15:0 (13.1 %), iso-C-16:0 (10.1 %), summed feature 3 (9.8 %) and C-16:0 (9.0 %) and iso-C-15:0 (5.2 %). The whole-cell hydrolysates contained galactose, glucose, ribose and mannose, along with ll-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid in the peptidoglycan. The DNA G+C content was 70.7 mol%. Strain YIM T102(T) also exhibited antagonistic activity against Alternaria alternata, Alternaria brassicae and Colletotrichum nicotianae Averna, based on the findings from the comparative analyses of phenotypic and genotypic characteristics; it is proposed that strain YIM T102 represents a novel species of the genus Streptomyces, for which the name Streptomyces zhihengii sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM T102(T) (=KCTC 39115(T) = DSM 42176(T) = CGMCC 4.7248(T)).</P>

      • Computer Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Image Manifestations of Primary Hepatic Neuroendocrine Cell Carcinomas

        Aim: This study aims to investigate the manifestation of CT, MRI and dynamic enhanced scans for primary hepatic neuroendocrine cell carcinoma. Methods: CT or MRI arterial and venous phase scan images of 19 cases of pathologically confirmed PHNEC were retrospectively analyzed. Results: 14 cases (73.68%) with single lesion, 5 cases (26.3%) with multiple lesions, with an average diameter of 13.2 cm. Some 12 cases (63.16%) showed inhomogeneous enhancement, seven cases (36.8%) showed homogeneous enhancement, 13 cases (68.4%) demonstrated significant enhancement in the arterial phase, 13 cases (68.4%) had significantly enhanced portal venous phase including 7 cases (36.8 %) with portal venous phase density or signal above the arterial phase and 5 cases (26.3%) with the portal vein density or signal below the arterial phase. Seven cases (36.8%) had continued strengthened separate shadows in the center of the lesion. Thrombosis were not seen in portal veins. Conclusion: CT and MRI images of liver cell neuroendocrine carcinoma have certain characteristics that can provide valuable information for diagnosis and differential diagnosis.

        STRUCTURE OF IDEMPOTENTS IN POLYNOMIAL RINGS AND MATRIX RINGS

        An idempotent $e$ of a ring $R$ is called {\it right} (resp., {\it left}) {\it semicentral} if $er=ere$ (resp., $re =ere$) for any $r\in R$, and an idempotent $e$ of $R\backslash \{0,1\}$ will be called {\it right} (resp., {\it left}) {\it quasicentral} provided that for any $r\in R$, there exists an idempotent $f=f(e,r)\in R\backslash \{0,1\}$ such that $er=erf$ (resp., $re=fre$). We show the whole shapes of idempotents and right (left) semicentral idempotents of upper triangular matrix rings and polynomial rings. We next prove that every nontrivial idempotent of the $n$ by $n$ full matrix ring over a principal ideal domain is right and left quasicentral and, applying this result, we can find many right (left) quasicentral idempotents but not right (left) semicentral.

        REVERSIBLE AND PSEUDO-REVERSIBLE RINGS

        This article concerns the structure of idempotents in reversible and pseudo-reversible rings in relation with various sorts of ring extensions. It is known that a ring R is reversible if and only if $ab{\in}I(R)$ for $a,b{\in}R$ implies ab = ba; and a ring R shall be said to be pseudoreversible if $0{\neq}ab{\in}I(R)$ for $a,b{\in}R$ implies ab = ba, where I(R) is the set of all idempotents in R. Pseudo-reversible is seated between reversible and quasi-reversible. It is proved that the reversibility, pseudoreversibility, and quasi-reversibility are equivalent in Dorroh extensions and direct products. Dorroh extensions are also used to construct several sorts of rings which are necessary in the process.

        Numerical Study on the Damage Characteristics of Layered Shale Using 3D DEM

        Layered shale is a kind of rock with obvious anisotropy, which is significantly influenced by the inclination angle of the rock. In this study, the influence of bedding dip on the strength characteristics, failure mode, and internal fracture evolution of layered shale was investigated through laboratory triaxial compression tests and three-dimensional discrete element numerical simulations. Results show that the numerical model of layered shale constructed using the bonded block model can simulate the layered shale in terms of U-shaped strength variation and failure modes very well. Based on the distribution of cracks and failure characteristics of layered rocks, the failure modes of layered rocks are classified as follows: Shear failure across the bedding plane, slip failure along bedding planes, combined tensile splitting and shear failure. The development of microcracks damage in the slip failure model is controlled by interlayer joints, while in other failure modes, it is jointly controlled by the rock matrix and interlayer joints. The relationship between microscopic joint parameters and the variations of Young's modulus and peak strength has been proposed.

        A KIND OF NORMALITY RELATED TO REGULAR ELEMENTS

        This article concerns a property of Abelain π-regular rings. A ring R shall be called right quasi-DR if for every α ∈ R there exists n ≥ 1 such that C(R)α<sup>n</sup> ⊆ αR, where C(R) means the monoid of regular elements in R. The relations between the right quasi-DR property and near ring theoretic properties are investigated. We next show that the class of right quasi-DR rings is quite large.

        Simulation of axisymmetric scramjet inlet flow fields using anti-diffusive WENO Navier-Stokes solver

        This study is based on the theory of gas dynamics and uses the Navier-Stokes equations as the governing equations to solve the hypersonicflow problems of the scramjet. For the turbulent flow, we use the Spalart-Allmaras one equation turbulence model, which producesbetter results for near wall and boundary layer flow field problems. The lower-upper symmetric Gauss-Seidel implicit scheme, whichenables results to converge efficiently under steady state conditions, is combined with the anti-diffusive weighted essentially nonoscillatory(WENO) scheme to yield an accurate and efficient simulation tool for an axisymmetric scramjet flow field analysis. Using theWENO scheme’s high-order accuracy and its non-oscillatory solution at discontinuous regions, we can solve the hypersonic flow problemsinvolving complex shock-shock/shock-boundary layer interactions inside the flow path. This simulation procedure is first verifiedagainst two existing partial examples to ensure its accuracy, and is then applied to a complete scramjet model with different initial conditionsfor a full flow field analysis. The aerodynamic data of Mach number, density, static temperature and pressure are obtained and theresults discussed. The anti-diffusive WENO scheme produces more accurate resolution of shock and slip lines and their complex multipleinteractions than other numerical approaches. This is of crucial importance for the scramjet complete flow field analysis as multipleshock-boundary layer and discontinuities interactions often occur within the long flow path.

        Health-related quality of life and rates of toxicity after high-dose-rate brachytherapy in combination with external beam radiation therapy for high-risk prostate cancer

        Purpose: High-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR-BT) with external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) is a common treatment option for locally advanced prostate cancer. Quality of life is an important factor when discussing therapy options for high-risk prostate cancer. This study evaluated adverse effects and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Materials and Methods: Ninety male patients (median age, 71 years; range, 50 to 79 years) with high-risk prostate cancer underwent HDR-BT after EBRT between December 2009 and January 2017 with a median follow-up of 43 months. A total of 57 patients (69.5%) answered the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life of Cancer Patients questionnaire (QLQ-C30; ver. 3.0), and 8 patients died during follow-up. In order to put the results of this study in context, we compared the results with reference data from the EORTC QLQ-C30 Scoring Manual. Correlations of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) values, International Prostate Symptom Score, and HRQOL measures were calculated. Results: The study participants reported better physical functioning and better global health compared with the reference data, but worse social, role, and cognitive functioning. We found negative statistically significant correlations between the last-measured PSA value and social functioning (p>0.01), cognitive functioning, pain, and constipation (all p<0.05). Toxicity rates were 10.0% for gastrointestinal and 12.2% for genitourinary adverse effects. All reported complications for toxicity were Grade I. Conclusions: The described therapy results in high biochemical control rates with minimal adverse effects. Compared with reference groups, the HRQOL of this study cohort was acceptable. PSA values during follow-up seem to be a possible indicator to influence HRQOL.

        Enterococcus faecium R0026 Combined with Bacillus subtilis R0179 Prevent Obesity-Associated Hyperlipidemia and Modulate Gut Microbiota in C57BL/6 Mice

        Bacillus subtilis and Enterococcus faecium are commonly used probiotics. This study aimed to identify the effect of live combined Bacillus subtilis R0179 and Enterococcus faecium R0026 (LCBE) on obesityassociated hyperlipidemia and gut microbiota in C57BL/6 mice. Forty male C57BL/6 mice were divided into four groups: normal group (N group), model group (M group), low-dose group (L group), and high-dose group (H group). Mice were gavaged with LCBE at 0.023 g/mice/day (L group) or 0.23 g/mice/day (H group) and fed with a high-fat diet for 8 weeks. In vitro E. faecium R0026 showed an ability to lower the low-concentration of cholesterol by 46%, and the ability to lower the highconcentration of cholesterol by 58%. LCBE significantly reduced the body weight gain, Lee index, brown fat index and body mass index of mice on a high-fat diet. Moreover, LCBE markedly improved serum lipids (including serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein and highdensity lipoprotein) while also significantly reducing liver total cholesterol. Serum lipopolysaccharide and total bile acid in L and H groups decreased significantly compared with M group. PCR-DGGE analysis showed that the composition of gut microbiota in the treatment groups was improved. Akkermansia muciniphila was found in H group. The PCA result indicated a similar gut microbiota structure between LCBE treatment groups and normal group while the number of bands and Shannon diversity index increased significantly in the LCBE treatment groups. Finally, qPCR showed Bifidobacterium spp. increased significantly in H group compared with M group, LCBE alleviated liver steatosis and improved brown adipose tissue index.
