Maximin Distributed Detection in the Presence of Impulsive Alpha-Stable Noise
Jintae Park,Shevlyakov, G.,Kiseon Kim IEEE 2011 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS Vol.10 No.6
<P>The distributed detection problem in wireless sensor networks is studied under the impulsive α-stable noise assumption. Since symmetric α-stable density does not have a closed form, its approximation, the bi-parameter Cauchy Gaussian mixture model, is used to describe the impulsive behavior of α-stable noises. With this model, we propose a low-complexity robust fusion rule by taking the maximin setting with respect to the detection probability. An explicit formula for the detection probability is derived. Robustness of the proposed maximin fusion rule is justified by numerical and simulation results for α-stable noises.</P>

Objective To investigate esophageal motility disorders in patients with esophageal residual barium on chest x-rays after videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS) through high-resolution esophageal manometry (HREM).Methods We reviewed the records of 432 patients who underwent VFSS from September 2019 to May 2021, and 85 patients (19.7%) with large residual barium (diameter ≥1 cm) were included. As a result of HREM, motility disorders were classified as major or minor motility disorders according. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy and chest computed tomography results available were also reviewed. Results Among 85 patients with large residual barium in the esophagus, 16 patients (18.8%) underwent HREM. Abnormal esophageal motilities were identified in 68.8% patient: three patients (18.8%) had major motility disorders—achalasia (n=1), esophagogastric junction (EGJ) outflow obstruction (n=2)—and eight patients (50%) had minor motility disorders—ineffective esophageal motility (n=7), fragmented peristalsis (n=1). In those with normal esophageal motility, three patients of esophageal structure disorders (18.8%)—esophageal cancer (n=1), cardiogenic dysphagia (n=1), slight narrowing without obstruction of EGJ (n=1)—and two patients (12.5%) with chronic atrophic gastritis (n=2) were confirmed. Conclusion Esophageal motility disorders were identified in 68.8% of 16 patients with large esophageal residual barium with three patients in the major and eight patients in the minor categories. Residual barium in the esophagus was not rare and can be a sign of significant esophageal motility disorders.

The effect of the precursor concentration on the electrochemical properties of hydrothermally synthesized Li2MnSiO4 is investigated. The synthesis mechanism is investigated by analyzing the chemical reaction as a function of reaction time. Results show that Li2MnSiO4 is synthesized by a dissolution-recrystallization mechanism through an intermediate Mn(OH)2 phase. Smaller particles produced from higher concentration precursor solution. Li2MnSiO4 with smaller particle size shows larger initial discharge capacity than that of Li2MnSiO4 with larger particle size which are synthesized from lower concentration precursor solution. A maximum initial charge capacity of 323 mAh g−1 and discharge capacity of 177 mAh g-1 are achieved through hydrothermal synthesis using a 2.1 M solution, while it shows serious capacity fading. Li2MnSiO4synthesized from 2.1 M solution shows 32% of capacity retention after 20 cycles. Smaller particle size of Li2MnSiO4 can induce more serious side reaction with electrolyte due to its larger specific surface area, which results in structural instability during charge-discharge tests.
Robust Distributed Detection with Total Power Constraint in Large Wireless Sensor Networks
Jintae Park,Shevlyakov, G.,Kiseon Kim IEEE 2011 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS Vol.10 No.7
<P>In practical problems of signal detection, it is quite common that the underlying noise distribution is not Gaussian and may vary in a wide range from light- to heavy-tailed forms. To design a robust fusion rule for distributed detection in wireless sensor networks, an asymptotic maximin approach is used by introducing weak signals in the canonical parallel fusion model. Explicit formulas for the detection and false alarm probabilities are derived. The analytic results are written out for the classes of nondegenerate, with a bounded variance and contaminated Gaussian noise distributions. Numerical and simulation results are obtained to justify robustness and asymptotic characteristics of the proposed fusion rule.</P>
Distributed Detection and Fusion of Weak Signals in Fading Channels with Non-Gaussian Noises
Jintae Park,Shevlyakov, G.,Kiseon Kim IEEE 2012 IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS Vol.16 No.2
<P>Distributed detection and information fusion have received recent research interest due to the success of emerging wireless sensor network (WSN) technologies. For the problem of distributed detection in WSNs under energy constraints, a weak signal model in the canonical parallel fusion scheme with additive non-Gaussian noises and fading channels is considered. To solve this problem in the Neyman-Pearson setting, a unified asymptotic fusion rule generalizing the maximum ratio combiner (MRC) fusion rule is proposed. Explicit formulas for the threshold and detection probability applicable for wide classes of fading channels and noise distributions are written out. Both asymptotic analysis and Monte Carlo modeling are used to examine the performance of the proposed detection fusion rule.</P>
Dysphagia Secondary to Esophageal Compression in a Patient with Decompensated Heart Failure
Jintae Park,백소라,김고운,남승주,조병렬 대한상부위장관ㆍ헬리코박터학회 2022 Korean Journal of Helicobacter Upper Gastrointesti Vol.22 No.2
Cardiogenic dysphagia is a rare type of esophageal dysphagia caused by external compression of the esophagus by an enlarged left atrium. Long-term comparisons between the degree of cardiogenic dysphagia and heart failure have not been reported due to its low incidence. We hereby report the case of a 74-year-old woman with valvular heart disease, suspected of having oropharyngeal dysphagia following a recent intracerebral hemorrhage, who performed a swallowing function test. Videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) revealed a supraglottic penetration, confirming the oropharyngeal dysphagia. Furthermore, post-VFSS chest radiograph revealed esophageal residual barium, suggestive of reduced esophageal food transition secondary to external compression, at the level of the T6 vertebral body. Chest computed tomography showed mid-esophageal compression caused by left atrial enlargement. She had pulmonary edema which was managed with diuretics. Post-VFSS chest radiographs also revealed a direct association between the diameter of the esophageal barium residue and body weight. A reduction in body weight led to the resolution of the barium residue and vice versa. Development of cardiac dysphagia may be one of the signs of acute exacerbation of heart failure.
