日本 美人圖를 바라보는 조선 후기의 시선: 《石農畵苑》의 〈采女摘阮圖〉 고찰

        김진주(Kim Jinju) 한국미술사학회 2023 美術史學硏究 Vol.318 No.318

The Court Lady Playing a String Instrument (采女摘阮圖) is the Japanese painting of beauty that Kim Kwangguk (金光國, 1727–1797), a prominent aficionado of painting and calligraphy of the late Chosŏn period, collected and compiled in his album, Sŏngnong hwawŏn (石農畵苑, Album of Paintings Collected by Kim Kwangguk). Based on the facial features, garment, and hair style of the figures, this ukiyo-e (浮世繪) beauty painting is dated to the early eighteenth century when the ukiyo-e genre was still in the early stage of its development. It is likely that the painting came into Kim’s possession through the merchants specialized in painting and calligraphy, who were integral to the thriving trade network between Chŏson dynasty and Tokugawa shogunate at the time. The significance of this Court Lady Playing a String Instrument lies in the fact that not only is it the sole surviving Japanese painting from Kim’s collection, but also the single extant example of the ukiyo-e works that circulated in the Chosŏn period. In light of this uniqueness of the Japanese painting of beauty collected by a Chosŏn literatus, this study seeks to understand the way Kim appreciated the painting as its collector. He appraised it as a Japanese painting that did “not manifest any hint of excellence for which Japanese artists were known in the world.” And he assigned the title “court lady playing a string instrument” to the painting that was in fact a depiction of the postures of courtesans. It was a projection of both his deep-seated sense of cultural superiority over Japan and his passionate emotion toward the painting of beauty. Kim’s complex perspective on the Court Lady Playing a String Instrument like this represents the late Chŏson literati’s perception of the Japanese painting and the painting of beauty.

Developing a national surveillance system for stroke and acute myocardial infarction using claims data in the Republic of Korea: a retrospective study

        Kim Tae Jung,Lee Hak Seung,Kim Seong-Eun,Park Jinju,Kim Jun Yup,Lee Ji Yoon,Song Ji Eun,Hong Jin-Hyuk,Lee Joongyub,Chung Joong-Hwa,Kim Hyeon Chang,Shin Dong-Ho,Lee Hae-Young,Kim Bum Joon,Seo Woo-Keun 질병관리청 2024 Osong Public Health and Research Persptectives Vol.15 No.1

Objectives: Limited information is available concerning the epidemiology of stroke and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in the Republic of Korea. This study aimed to develop a national surveillance system to monitor the incidence of stroke and AMI using national claims data. Methods: We developed and validated identification algorithms for stroke and AMI using claims data. This validation involved a 2-stage stratified sampling method with a review of medical records for sampled cases. The weighted positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated based on the sampling structure and the corresponding sampling rates. Incident cases and the incidence rates of stroke and AMI in the Republic of Korea were estimated by applying the algorithms and weighted PPV and NPV to the 2018 National Health Insurance Service claims data. Results: In total, 2,200 cases (1,086 stroke cases and 1,114 AMI cases) were sampled from the 2018 claims database. The sensitivity and specificity of the algorithms were 94.3% and 88.6% for stroke and 97.9% and 90.1% for AMI, respectively. The estimated number of cases, including recurrent events, was 150,837 for stroke and 40,529 for AMI in 2018. The age- and sex-standardized incidence rate for stroke and AMI was 180.2 and 46.1 cases per 100,000 person-years, respectively, in 2018.Conclusion: This study demonstrates the feasibility of developing a national surveillance system based on claims data and identification algorithms for stroke and AMI to monitor their incidence rates.

Ginsenoside F1 Attenuates Eosinophilic Infl ammation in Chronic Rhinosinusitis by Promoting NK Cell Function

        So Jeong Kim,Jinju Lee,Woo Sun Choi,Hyo Jeong Kim,Mi-Yeon Kim,Sun Chang Kim,Hun Sik Kim 고려인삼학회 2021 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.45 No.6

Background: Ginsenosides have beneficial effects on several airway inflammatory disorders primarilythrough glucocorticosteroid-like anti-inflammatory activity. Among inflammatory cells, eosinophils playa major pathogenic role in conferring a risk of severe refractory diseases including chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS). However, the role of ginsenosides in reducing eosinophilic inflammation and CRS pathogenesis isunexplored. Methods: We investigated the therapeutic efficacy and underlying mechanism of ginsenoside F1 (G-F1)in comparison with those of dexamethasone, a representative glucocorticosteroid, in a murine model ofCRS. The effects of G-F1 or dexamethasone on sinonasal abnormalities and infiltration of eosinophils andmast cells were evaluated by histological analyses. The changes in inflammatory cytokine levels insinonasal tissues, macrophages, and NK cells were assessed by qPCR, ELISA, and immunohistochemistry. Results: We found that G-F1 significantly attenuated eosinophilic inflammation, mast cell infiltration, epithelial hyperplasia, and mucosal thickening in the sinonasal mucosa of CRS mice. Moreover, G-F1reduced the expression of IL-4 and IL-13, as well as hematopoietic prostaglandin D synthase required forprostaglandin D2 production. This therapeutic efficacy was associated with increased NK cell function, without suppression of macrophage inflammatory responses. In comparison, dexamethasone potentlysuppressed macrophage activation. NK cell depletion nullified the therapeutic effects of G-F1, but notdexamethasone, in CRS mice, supporting a causal link between G-F1 and NK cell activity. Conclusion: Our results suggest that potentiating NK cell activity, for example with G-F1, is a promisingstrategy for resolving eosinophilic inflammation in CRS.

      • <i>p</i> -Coumaric Acid, a Major Active Compound of Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam, Suppresses Cigarette Smoke-Induced Pulmonary Inflammation

Kim, Woogyeong,Lim, Dahae,Kim, Jinju World Scientific Publishing Company 2018 The American journal of Chinese medicine Vol.46 No.2

<P><TEX>$ p$</TEX>-coumaric acid (<TEX>$ p$</TEX>-CA) is a common compound found in medicinal herbs, including Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam (BC). It has been used to treat various diseases in China and Korea. Our previous study demonstrated that BC inhibits pulmonary and intestinal inflammation. In the present study, we used cigarette smoke (CS) to induce lung inflammation <I>in vivo</I>, and investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of <TEX>$ p$</TEX>-CA on CS-induced inflammatory mice model. Mice were treated with BC and <TEX>$ p$</TEX>-CA via oral injection 2<TEX>$ \,$</TEX>h before CS exposure. The body weight and the inflammatory cells in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were measured. The levels of relative inflammatory factors were confirmed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The lung histological changes were examined by hematoxylin and eosin staining. Also, the protein level of nuclear factor-<TEX>$ \kappa $</TEX>B (NF-<TEX>$ \kappa $</TEX>B) was evaluated by Western blotting. Our results indicated that BC and <TEX>$ p$</TEX>-CA inhibited CS-induced lung inflammation by regulating pro-inflammatory productions such as cytokines, chemokine, protease and NF-<TEX>$ \kappa $</TEX>B. Consequently, these data demonstrated that <TEX>$ p$</TEX>-CA inhibited pulmonary inflammation by suppressing NF-<TEX>$ \kappa $</TEX>B activity, through which pro-inflammatory mediators were regulated. Therefore, <TEX>$ p$</TEX>-CA, which was shown to be a major component of BC, can be considered as a strong therapeutic candidate for treating pulmonary inflammatory diseases.</P>

      • Mechanism of seasonal Arctic sea ice evolution and Arctic amplification

        Kim, Kwang-Yul,Hamlington, Benjamin D.,Na, Hanna,Kim, Jinju Copernicus GmbH 2016 The cryosphere Vol.10 No.5

<P><p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Sea ice loss is proposed as a primary reason for the Arctic amplification, although the physical mechanism of the Arctic amplification and its connection with sea ice melting is still in debate. In the present study, monthly ERA-Interim reanalysis data are analyzed via cyclostationary empirical orthogonal function analysis to understand the seasonal mechanism of sea ice loss in the Arctic Ocean and the Arctic amplification. While sea ice loss is widespread over much of the perimeter of the Arctic Ocean in summer, sea ice remains thin in winter only in the Barents-Kara seas. Excessive turbulent heat flux through the sea surface exposed to air due to sea ice reduction warms the atmospheric column. Warmer air increases the downward longwave radiation and subsequently surface air temperature, which facilitates sea surface remains to be free of ice. This positive feedback mechanism is not clearly observed in the Laptev, East Siberian, Chukchi, and Beaufort seas, since sea ice refreezes in late fall (November) before excessive turbulent heat flux is available for warming the atmospheric column in winter. A detailed seasonal heat budget is presented in order to understand specific differences between the Barents-Kara seas and Laptev, East Siberian, Chukchi, and Beaufort seas.</p> </P>

Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Flavone di-C-Glycosides as Active Principles of Camellia Mistletoe, Korthalsella japonica

Kim, Min Kyoung,Yun, Kwang Jun,Lim, Da Hae,Kim, Jinju,Jang, Young Pyo The Korean Society of Applied Pharmacology 2016 Biomolecules & Therapeutics(구 응용약물학회지) Vol.24 No.6

The chemical components and biological activity of Camellia mistletoe, Korthalsella japonica (Loranthaceae) are relatively unknown compared to other mistletoe species. Therefore, we investigated the phytochemical properties and biological activity of this parasitic plant to provide essential preliminary scientific evidence to support and encourage its further pharmaceutical research and development. The major plant components were chromatographically isolated using high-performance liquid chromatography and their structures were elucidated using tandem mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance anlysis. Furthermore, the anti-inflammatory activity of the 70% ethanol extract of K. japonica (KJ) and its isolated components was evaluated using a nitric oxide (NO) assay and western blot analysis for inducible NO synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2. Three flavone di-C-glycosides, lucenin-2, vicenin-2, and stellarin-2 were identified as major components of KJ, for the first time. KJ significantly inhibited NO production and reduced iNOS and COX-2 expression in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells at $100{\mu}g/mL$ while similar activity were observed with isolated flavone C-glycosides. In conclusion, KJ has a simple secondary metabolite profiles including flavone di-C-glycosides as major components and has a strong potential for further research and development as a source of therapeutic anti-inflammatory agents.
