Jinho Moon,김홍주,김도성,박환배,Heedong Kang,Sih-Hong Doh,김성환,Wan Kim 한국물리학회 2006 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.49 No.2I
The scintillation properties of SrCl2(Eu) single crystals with Eu2+ concentrations between 0.1 and 1.0 mol% are presented. These crystals were grown by using the Czochralski method. The emission spectrum of the SrCl2(Eu) crystal was observed in the range of 390 450 nm, which matches with a bialkali PMT. The scintillation properties were studied using various gamma ray sources and an alpha source. The decay time of the pure SrCl2 crystal was about 1 μs and increased with the Eu2+ concentration. The number of photoelectrons for SrCl2(Eu:0.5 %) is 1.7 times higher than that for CsI(T`) even with a green-extended PMT being used for light collection. The details of the crystal growth, the scintillator properties, and the variations of those properties with different Eu2+ concentrations are also presented.

Purpose: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is implicated in the pathogenesis of iron dysregulation and Alzheimer’s disease. We aimed to evaluate whether the presence of DM and status of cognitive impairment affect cortical iron accumulation in older adults, as quantified by the susceptibility measurements using the deep neural network QSMnet+. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective analysis of a prospective cohort, 50 patients with normal cognition with or without subjective memory impairment (controls), 49 with early mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and 43 with late MCI were evaluated. We employed QSMnet+ to compute a quantitative susceptibility map and FreeSurfer 6.0 to obtain anatomical labels. The effects of MCI and DM on cortical susceptibility and volume were evaluated using a two-way analysis of covariance. Results: Whole-cortex susceptibility differed according to MCI (p < 0.001) but not according to DM (p = 0.554), with higher values in the early and late MCI groups than in the control group. MCI and the DM status showed a significant interaction in the whole cortex (p = 0.023). Among the patients with early MCI, those with DM exhibited higher cortical susceptibility than those without DM, whereas those with late MCI showed no such difference. Cortical susceptibility did not correlate with the cortical volume in patients with DM and inversely correlated with the cortical volume in patients without DM. Only disease status (p = 0.008) and DM (p = 0.023) were independent predictors of whole-cortex susceptibility, after correcting for covariates. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that cognitive impairment and DM are linked to alterations in cortical susceptibility in older adults. This observation suggests that cortical iron accumulation results from the combined effects of DM and neurodegenerative processes related to the cognitive status.
Proton Beam Profile Monitoring by Using a GSO (Gd2SiO5) Crystal
M.H. Moon,김홍주,박환배,Heedong Kang,Jinho Moon,Kyeryung Kim,Sangpil Yun,Sihhong Doh,김성환 한국물리학회 2007 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.50 No.I
Flux monitoring of a proton beam profile is important for understanding the characteristics of a proton beam. The decay constant of a GSO (Gd$_2$SiO$_5$) crystal is small, and a GSO crystal has a higher light output than an organic scintillator crystal. The GSO crystal also has strong hardness against radiation. The flux profile of a proton beam from the MC-50 cyclotron at the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences (KIRAMS) was measured using a GSO csystal. A 3.0-mm aluminum collimator was used for the beam collimation and for beam flux reduction. A photomultiplier tube (PMT) was attached on one side of the GSO crystal, and a counting method with an embedded CPU was used for the signal processing. We showed that the GSO crystal could be used for proton-beam profile monitoring.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common form of cancer and poses a critical public health threat due to theglobal spread of westernized diets high in meat, cholesterol, and fat. Although the link between diet and colorectalcancer has been well established, the mediating role of the gut microbiota remains elusive. In this study, we sought toelucidate the connection between the gut microbiota, diet, and CRC through metagenomic analysis of bacteriaisolated from the stool of CRC (n = 89) and healthy (n = 161) subjects. This analysis yielded a dozen genera that weresignificantly altered in CRC patients, including increased Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Dorea, and Porphyromonasprevalence and diminished Pseudomonas, Prevotella, Acinetobacter, and Catenibacterium carriage. Based on thesealtered genera, we developed two novel CRC diagnostic models through stepwise selection and a simplified modelusing two increased and two decreased genera. As both models yielded strong AUC values above 0.8, the simplifiedmodel was applied to assess diet-based CRC risk in mice. Mice fed a westernized high-fat diet (HFD) showed greaterCRC risk than mice fed a regular chow diet. Furthermore, we found that nonglutinous rice, glutinous rice, and sorghumconsumption reduced CRC risk in HFD-fed mice. Collectively, these findings support the critical mediating role of thegut microbiota in diet-induced CRC risk as well as the potential of dietary grain intake to reduce microbiota-associatedCRC risk. Further study is required to validate the diagnostic prediction models developed in this study as well as thepreventive potential of grain consumption to reduce CRC risk.

Breakdown outages and maintenance interval are critical factors in determining lifetime operating costs for a weapon system. The maintenance-free operating period (MFOP) traces the reliability of a weapon system throughout the life of the system. MFOP might be appropriate to a weapon system such as a missile launcher if the requirement of a high level of reliability for the system is considered. This paper proposes a two-step maintenance planning model based on MFOP in estimating the cost of breakdown outages. The first step is optimising lifetime operating costs, including breakdown and preventive maintenance costs. The second step is grouping the maintenance activities in order to save set-up costs. A numerical experiment for a missile launcher using data obtained from the South Korean navy identified that the optimal intervals from MFOP tended to be shorter than those from traditional system reliability; the grouping policy minimizes the lifetime operating costs.
An Autonomic Connection Scheme for High Service Availability
MOON, Daekeun,PARK, Jinho,KIM, Hagbae The Institute of Electronics, Information and Comm 2010 IEICE transactions on information and systems Vol.93 No.3

In large-scale industrial plants, the process control system has multiple system servers to provide seamless services to plant operators irrespective of any system server's failure. In this paper, we present an autonomic connection scheme between the system server and the Human-Machine Interface application (HMI) without additional configuration. The proposed scheme is based on the concept of autonomic computing, supporting the fault-tolerant and/or load-balancing features. Finally, the mathematical analysis shows that the proposed scheme can provide high availability of services to users.

Optimizing Concurrent Spare Parts Inventory Levels for Warships Under Dynamic Conditions
Moon, Seongmin,Lee, Jinho Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers 2017 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.16 No.1
The inventory level of concurrent spare parts (CSP) has a significant impact on the availability of a weapon system. A failure rate function might be of particular importance in deciding the CSP inventory level. We developed a CSP optimization model which provides a compromise between purchase costs and shortage costs on the basis of the Weibull and the exponential failure rate functions, assuming that a failure occurs according to the (non-) homogeneous Poisson process. Computational experiments using the data obtained from the Korean Navy identified that, throughout the initial provisioning period, the optimization model using the exponential failure rate tended to overestimate the optimal CSP level, leading to higher purchase costs than the one using the Weibull failure rate. A Pareto optimality was conducted to find an optimal combination of these two failure rate functions as input parameters to the model, and this provides a practical solution for logistics managers.
