        An Automatic Corona-discharge Detection System for Railways Based on Solar-blind Ultraviolet Detection

        Corona discharge is always a sign of failure processes of high-voltage electrical apparatus, includingthose utilized in electric railway systems. Solar-blind ultraviolet (UV) cameras are effective tools for coronainspection. In this work, we present an automatic railway corona-discharge detection system based on solarblindultraviolet detection. The UV camera, mounted on top of a train, inspects the electrical apparatus,including transmission lines and insulators, along the railway during fast cruising of the train. An algorithmbased on the Hough transform is proposed for distinguishing the emitting objects (corona discharge) fromthe noise. The detection system can report the suspected corona discharge in real time during fast cruises. An experiment was carried out during a routine inspection of railway apparatus in Xinjiang Province, China. Several corona-discharge points were found along the railway. The false-alarm rate was controlled to lessthan one time per hour during this inspection.

        그래픽 디자이너의 역할 현황 분석 - 국내 실무 디자이너를 중심으로 -

        연구배경 과거 조형적 작업에 국한되었던 디자인은 오늘날 사회혁신을 위한 전략적 요소이자 비즈니스 경쟁력으로 제시되고 있다. 디자이너의 역할도 다변화되어 전략가, 혁신가로서의 역할이 강조되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 활발하게 논의되고 있는 디자이너의 확장된 역할이 실무에서 어떻게 수행되고 있는지 파악해 보고자 한다. 연구방법 본 연구는 그래픽 디자이너의 역할 현황 분석을 위해 브랜딩, 광고, UX/UI, VMD의 다양한 세부 분야 실무 디자이너와의 인터뷰를 진행하였으며 이를 디자인 프로세스 단계별로 구분하여 분석 및 논의하였다. 연구결과 실무 디자이너는 전형적 그래픽 디자이너의 역할에 한정되어 있었는데, 이는 조직의 구조적 문제와 타분야의 디자인에 대한 고정관념에서 기인된 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 커뮤니케이션 매체의 다변화 및 디자인 툴의 민주화로 인하여 그래픽 디자이너가 더욱 실현 및 전달 단계의 업무에 치중되고 있었다. 결론 디자인 연구와 실무분야에서 강조되고 있는 디자이너의 역할 차이 인식을 바탕으로 향후 공통된 논의를 이끌어 낼 수 있도록 해야 한다. Background Design, which was limited to visualizing and styling work in the past, is now presented as a strategic element for social innovation and business. The role of designer has also diversified, emphasizing the role of strategist and innovator. Therefore, this study aims to analyse how the extended role of designers, which is actively discussed in design research, are being performed in design practice. Methods The interviews were conducted with graphic designers in various sub-fields of branding, advertising, UX/UI, and VMD, in order to understand the role status of graphic designers in the field. Interviews were analyzed and discussed by the phases of the design process. Result Designers were confined to the role of traditional graphic designer and we found that it was due to the structural issue of organization and stereotypes about design from different field. In addition, due to the diversification of communication media and the democratization of design tool the role of graphic designers were more focused on realization and delivery phase. Conclusion Based on the recognition of the designers’emphasized role difference between design research and practice, effort need to be made to draw common discussion.

        Cu nanoplates with ‘‘clean surface”: Synthesis and their enhanced biosensors performance

        In this study, we demonstrated a one-pot synthesis of Cu nanoplates (Cu NPs) with high purity and ‘‘cleansurface”. Different from surfactant-assisted method, we tailored the architecture by controlling the ripeningtime of Cu seeds. Citrate is introduced as a structure-directing agent. Since the ‘‘clean surface” providemore available active sites, the as-prepared Cu NPs show a superior performance when utilized in thenon-enzymatic biosensors. In the detection of nitrite, the sensor constructed by Cu NPs exhibited a superiorsensitivity (303.1 ± 10.18 mAmM1cm2), and the detection range is 5.0 mM. On the contrary, sensitivityfor the Cu NPs by surfactant-assisted method is negligible. As applied in the glucose sensors,detection range by Cu NPs could reach 36.0 mM. And the sensitivity under ambient condition (298 K)is 561.93 ± 3.72 mAmM1cm2, which is ca. 2.11-folds higher than that for Cu NPs by surfactantassistedmethod. In the detection of H2O2, detection range is 10.0 mM, and the enhancement factor fordetection range is up to 2.0-folds. The superior performance can also be extended to the catalysis forthe reduction of 4-nitro-phenol. Since no additional noble metals was applied, this strategy would openup a new avenue for utilizing non-noble metals.

        Numerical studies on the dynamic characteristics of a wet multi-disc clutch during the disengaging process

        A comprehensive numerical model was proposed to investigate the disengaging process of a wet multi-disc clutch, which included the hydrodynamic lubrication, the micro elastic–plastic contact, the spline resistance, and the impact between the piston and clutch hub. The clutch disengaging process was divided into the boundary, mixed, and hydrodynamic lubrication stages to discuss the variations in friction pair gaps and friction torque. Moreover, the nonuniformity coefficient was employed to characterize the disengaging uniformity of friction pair gaps. During the disengaging process, the friction pair gaps increased slowly, increased rapidly, and stabilized after fluctuating. The increase in spline friction coefficient and the decline in pressure decrease rate dramatically deteriorated the disengaging uniformity; the decline in pressure decrease rate also significantly prolonged the disengaging time. This research demonstrated for the first time evidence for the dynamic characteristics of the clutch disengaging process.
