        Spectroscopic Determination of the Species Fractions and the Power Profiles of the Diagnostic Neutral Beam on the HT-7 Tokamak

        A diagnostic neutral beam (DNB) has been installed on the HT-7 tokamak for the measurement of charge exchange recombination spectroscopy (CXRS). The H_α-light Doppler shift spectroscopy from the drifted duct is measured to determine the components of the neutral beam. The fractions of neutral beam species are investigated under a wide range of arc voltages and extraction high voltages of the beam aimed to the optimized species fractions for the CXRS applications. A magnet ring is used to improve the magnetic property of the ion source. The result shows that the full-energy component fractions increase from 19 to 25 percent with optimization of the beam operation, but with a dramatic increase of the water component. There are nine optical fiber channels observing one section of the beam simultaneously for this spectroscopy, which provides information of the power profiles of the beam. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the beam profile is 8 cm, as measured by using the spectroscopy.

        Comics with Drama: New Communication in Wedia

        We-the-media (aka wedia) is a concept where the users of social networking sites, such as Facebook, turn into the broadcasters. This study used the popular application Bitstrips as the experiment tool. Facebook was used as the Wedia platform for publishing designed comics, then used the three elements of Goffman`s dramaturgy model―role, scene and dialog―to analyze 265 comics created by 3 researchers and observe the audience`s responses within 9 months. The results showed that people want to see a good story with positive dialogue, and prefer scene is school more than work. As all these elements are controllable, Wedia communication has the potential for more applications. We also found that including the elements of news, gambling and gift-giving tended to trigger greater response. Furthermore, We suggesting that such embedding of product information in web episodes (webisodes) with caricature could be a successful marketing strategy.

        Electronic and optical properties of graphane, silicane, MoS2 homo-bilayers and hetero-bilayers

        The electronic and optical properties of graphane, silicane and MoS2 bilayers, as well as the graphane/MoS2 and silicane/MoS2 hetero-bilayers, are calculated by the first-principles method. The interlayer interactions of all the bilayer systems are shown to be mainly van der Waals. Both the graphane/MoS2 and silicane/MoS2 heterobilayers belong to the type-II heterostructure, which can be utilized in photo-voltaic devices due to the efficient spatial separation of electrons and holes. For optical properties, the distinctions for the imaginary parts of the dielectric function 2 ( ) between the monolayer and bilayer systems for both the graphane and silicane are more evident in electric vector E||z. However, the differences between 2 ( ) of the monolayer and bilayer MoS2 materials are more significant in E||x. Broader light absorption ranges of the hetero-bilayers are reached, which can also improve the charge separation of the electron-hole pairs.

      • The NAD(P)H: Quinine Oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) Gene 609 C>T Polymorphism is Associated with Gastric Cancer Risk: Evidence from a Case-control Study and a Meta-analysis

        The association between the NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) gene C609T polymorphism (rs1800566) and gastric cancer has been widely evaluated, but a definitive answer is so far lacking. We first conducted a case-control study to assess this association in a large Han Chinese population, and then performed a meta-analysis to further address this issue. Although our case-control association study indicated no significant difference in the genotype and allele distributions of C609T polymorphism between gastric cancer patients and controls, in the meta analysis involving 4,000 subjects, comparison of alleles 609T and 609C indicated a significantly increased risk (46%) for gastric cancer (95% confidence interval (95%CI) for odds ratio (OR)=1.20-1.79) in individuals with the T allele. The tendency was similar to the homozygote (OR=1.81, 95%CI: 1.16-2.84), dominant models (OR=1.41, 95%CI: 1.12-1.79), as well as recessive model (OR=1.58, 95%CI: 1.06-2.35). Stratified analysis by study design demonstrated stronger associations in population-based than in hospital-based studies. And ethnicity-based analysis demonstrated a significant association in Asians. We conclude that the NQO1 gene C609T polymorphism increases the risk for gastric cancer, especially in Asian populations.

        Effect of light quality on regeneration and naphthoquinones accumulation of Arnebia euchroma

        The influence of light quality on the regeneration (i.e., formation, proliferation, growth, development, and rooting) and naphthoquinones’ accumulation of Arnebia euchroma was investigated in vitro. The cotyledons of sterile seedings were placed on modified LS medium supplemented with 0.8 mg/L thidiazuron to obtain callus, which was incubated on the corresponding medium at different culture stages under varying light conditions, including dark, fluorescent lamp (Fl), white light-emitting diodes (LEDs), blue LEDs, red LEDs, and a combination of 25% red, 25% blue, and 50% white LEDs [RBW (1:1:2)]. During the establishment of the A. euchroma regeneration system, we obtained the maximum fresh weight, dry weight, germination rate, shoot number, and proliferation rate under RBW (1:1:2) LEDs in the formation and multiplication phases; the growth index, shoot height, leaf number, and photosynthetic pigment concentration were promoted under red LEDs in the growth and development phase; and the maximum rooting rate (89.29% ± 2.06%) was observed under red LEDs in the rooting phase. To study the effect of light quality on naphthoquinones’ accumulation of A. euchroma, we used the euphylla to achieve adventitious roots, and the highest shikonin (121.77 ± 6.68 μg/g DW) and β′β-dimethylacrylalkannin (619.18 ± 15.71 μg/g DW) contents were detected in the dark culture. The lowest naphthoquinone contents were recorded under Fl in the adventitious roots. Overall, RBW (1:1:2) LEDs enhanced A. enchroma formation and proliferation, while red LEDs promoted the plant’s growth, development, and rooting. The dark condition was beneficial to naphthoquinones’ accumulation, whereas the light condition inhibited the naphthoquinones production of A. enchroma adventitious roots. Determining the suitable light quality for the regeneration and accumulation of naphthoquinones that is conducive to the protection and promotes resource utilization is essential.

        Liposomal honokiol, a potent anti-angiogenesis agent, in combination with radiotherapy produces a synergistic antitumor efficacy without increasing toxicity

        Honokiol is an active compound purified from magnolia that has been shown to induce cell differentiation, apoptosis, and anti-angiogenesis effects, as well as an enhancement in tumor growth delay in combination with chemotherapeutic agents in several mouse xenograft models. Our goal was to investigate the radiosensitization effect of honokiol on lung carcinoma. The radiosensitization effect of liposomal honokiol in Lewis lung carcinoma cells (LL/2) was analyzed using an in vitro clonogenic survival assay. For an in vivo study, Lewis lung carcinoma-bearing C57BL/6 mice were treated with either liposomal honokiol at 25 mg/kg or 5 Gy of single tumor radiation, or a combination of both over 12 days of treatment. The tumor growth delay and the survival time were evaluated. In addition, histological analysis of tumor sections was performed to examine changes by detecting the microvessel density and apoptosis in tumor tissues. In the clonogenic survival assay, LL/2 cells treated with IC50 Lipo-HNK for 24 h showed a radiation enhancement ratio of 1.9. After 12 days of combination treatment, the tumor volume decreased 78% and produced an anti-tumor activity 1.3-fold greater than a predicted additive effect of honokiol and radiation alone. This combination treatment also caused an 8.7 day delay in tumor growth. The cell cycle distribution and histological analysis demonstrated that liposomal honokiol has an anti-tumor effect via inducing apoptosis and inhibiting angiogenesis. Liposomal honokiol can enhance tumor cell radiosensitivity in vitro and in vivo, indicating that radiotherapy combined with liposomal honokiol can lead to greater anti-tumor efficacy.         Preparation and Drug Release Behavior of Tussah Silk Fibroin Composite Membrane

        Silk fibroin (SF) aqueous solution was obtained by the degumming and dissolution of tussah silk, and then the obtained solution was chemically cross-linked with sodium alginate (SA) to form composite membrane, which could be used as a carrier for sustained drug release. The mechanical properties and dissolution rate of such composite membrane togetherwith the drug release behavior under different conditions were investigated. A series of structure-tunable composite membranes were prepared through altering the ingredients proportion, the pH value during fabrication, the concentration of Ca2+, and cross-linking time. The drug release behavior of the corresponding drug-loaded composite membrane was elaborate studied using artemisinin as the model drug. It was found that the drug release rate exhibited a decreasing trend with increasing the SF content, the Ca2+ concentration and the cross-linking time of the corresponding composite membrane. Moreover, the drug release behavior exhibited pH sensitivity, and the drug release rate could be promoted under weak alkaline conditions.

        High‑Efficiency Inhibition of Gravity Segregation in Al–Bi Immiscible Alloys by Adding Lanthanum

        The inhibition of gravity segregation has been a long-standing challenge in fabrication and applications of homogeneousimmiscible alloys. Therefore, the effect of rare-earth La on the gravity segregation of Al–Bi immiscible alloys was investigatedto understand the homogenization mechanism. The results showed that the addition of La can completely suppress thegravity segregation. This is attributed to the nucleation of Bi-rich liquid phase on the in-situ produced LaBi2phase and thechange of the shape of LaBi2@Bi droplets. In addition, a novel strategy is developed to prepare the homogeneous immisciblealloys through the addition of rare-earth elements. This strategy not only is applicable to other immiscible alloys, but alsois conducive to finding more elements to suppress the gravity segregation. This study provided a useful reference for thefabrication of the homogeneous immiscible alloys.

      • Genetic Variants of NBS1 Predict Clinical Outcome of Platinum-based Chemotherapy in Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer in Chinese

        Objective: NBS1 plays a key role in the repair of DNA double-strand break (DSB). We conducted this study to investigate the effect of two critical polymorphisms (rs1805794 and rs13312840) in NBS1 on treatment response and prognosis of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with platinum-based chemotherapy. Methods: Using TaqMan methods, we genotyped the two polymorphisms in 147 NSCLC patients. Odds ratios (ORs) and their 95% confidential intervals (CIs) were calculated as a measure of difference in the response rate of platinum-based chemotherapy using logistic regression analysis. The Kaplan-Meier and log-rank tests were used to assess the differences in progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Cox proportional hazards model was applied to assess the hazard ratios (HRs) for PFS and OS. Results: Neither of the two polymorphisms was significantly associated with treatment response of platinum-based chemotherapy. However, patients carrying the rs1805794 CC variant genotype had a significantly improved PFS compared to those with GG genotype (16.0 vs. 8.0 months, P = 0.040). Multivariable cox regression analysis further showed that rs1805974 was a significantly favorable prognostic factor for PFS [CC/CG vs. GG: Adjusted HR = 0.62, 95% CI: 0.39-0.99; CC vs. CG/GG: Adjusted HR = 0.56, 95% CI: 0.32-0.97). Similarly, rs13312840 with a small sample size also showed a significant association with PFS (CC vs. CT/TT: Adjusted HR = 25.62, 95% CI: 1.53-428.39). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that NBS1 polymorphisms may be genetic biomarkers for NSCLC prognosis especially PFS with platinum-based chemotherapy in the Chinese population.

        三十年來對日漢字敎學的理論和方法

        중국에서 이루어진 일본의 한자교육에 대한 연구는 대외 중국어 교육의 중요한 부분 중 하나이기 때문에, 이전의 많은 학자들은 이에 관심을 가지고 여러 방면에서 연구를 진행하였다. 본고는 중국에서 이루어진 일본의 한자교육과 관련된 문장과 논문, 전문 저서 79편을 분석하고 이를 분류하여 정리한 후綜述 부분에서 자형과 자음, 자의의 세 방면으로 나누어 각기 그 연구 성과를 비평하였다. 이러한 기초 위에 본문에서는 일본의 한자교육의 발전 상황에 대해 집중적으로 논의하였다. 30여년 동안의 발전을 통해 일본의 한자교육에 대한 중국에서의 연구 성과는 양적으로는 풍부하지만 연구의 방향이 경도화되어 있으며, 개별 국가에 맞는 특수한 교육의 방법에 대해서도 아직까지 더 많은 발전이 요구되는 상황이다. Teaching of Chinese character is an important part of teaching Chinese language to students whose mother tongue is Japanese, for that the relationship between Japanese characters and Chinese characters may result in unique learning features and difficulties among language learners. A great amount of the research work has been done by professors and experts in this field, and in this article, we aim at doing a brief review of their works and put forward some proposals. A total number of 83 pieces of material written in Chinese language are collected, including research papers, theses and books. We first analyzed and generalized these works and then illustrated them specifically in three aspects of a character: the grapheme, the pronunciation and the meaning. Based on the brief review, we think that a strong record of research has been achieved. And to further investigate into this field, we propose that more focus could be put on studies concerning the teaching of pronunciation as well as meaning, and that individual differences showed among Korean students and Japanese students also call for more attention.
