<P>Histone acetylation has been known to be significant in spermatogenesis. Histone acetylation is regulated by the act of histone deacetylases (HDACs) and histone acetyltransferases (HATs). We investigated the link between expression levels of HDACs and HATs in mouse sperm and subsequent blastocyst formation rate. In the univariate analysis, expression levels of HDAC1 and HAT were generally not associated with the blastocyst formation rate. When divided by the mature oocyte number category, a significant positive association was observed between the expression levels of HDAC1 and the blastocyst-forming rate in the highest (> 75th) percentile group (a group with 34 mature oocytes). In conclusion, expression of sperm HDAC1 could be considered as a possible predictor of embryo development in mice with high ovarian response.</P>

While many fertility preservation (FP) options now exist for reproductive-aged cancer patients, access to these services continues to be limited. A comprehensive FP program should be organized to serve oncofertility patients effectively. Also, much effort is needed from various individuals-patients, specialists from various fields, and consultants-to facilitate FP in a timely manner. Various challenges still exist in improving access to FP programs. To improve access to FP treatment, it is important to educate oncologists and patients via electronic tools and to actively navigate patients through the system. Reproductive endocrinology practices that receive oncofertility referrals must be equipped to provide a full range of options on short notice. A multidisciplinary team approach is required, involving physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, office staff, and laboratory personnel. The bottom line of FP patient care is to understand the true nature of each patient's specific situation and to develop a patient flow system that will help build a successful FP program. Expanding the patient flow system to all comprehensive cancer centers will ensure that all patients are provided with adequate information regarding their fertility, regardless of geography.

Based on the current understanding of a preventive effect of bilateral salpingectomy on ovarian/fallopian/peritoneal cancers, the Korean Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Korean Society of Gynecologic Endocrinology, Korean Society of Gynecologic Oncology, Korean Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Korean Society for Reproductive Medicine support the following recommendations: · Women scheduled for hysterectomy for benign gynecologic disease should be informed that bilateral salpingectomy reduces the risk of ovarian/fallopian/peritoneal cancer, and they should be counseled regarding this procedure at the time of hysterectomy. · Although salpingectomy is generally considered as a safe procedure in terms of preserving ovarian reserve, there is a lack of evidences representing its long-term outcomes. Therefore, patients should be informed about the minimal potential of this procedure for decreasing ovarian reserve. · Prophylactic salpingectomy during vaginal hysterectomy is favorable in terms of prevention of ovarian/fallopian/ peritoneal cancer, although operation-related complications minimally increase with this procedure, compared to the complications associated with vaginal hysterectomy alone. Conversion to open or laparoscopic approach from vaginal approach to perform prophylactic salpingectomy is not recommended. · Women who desire permanent sterilization at the time of cesarean delivery could be counseled for prophylactic salpingectomy before surgery on an individual basis.
Building a successful fertility preservation program at a major cancer center

Over 150,000 reproductive age individuals face fertility-threatening cancer treatments each year. Improved detection and treatment of cancer in reproductive-age patients have greatly increased the long-term survival and made it possible for these individuals to consider their long-term quality-of-life after cancer including having biologic offspring. Various methods of fertility preservation (FP) are now available for both males and females. In order to maximize FP options available to patients facing imminent gonadotoxic therapies, it is crucial that women have quick access to FP care and that providers expedite FP strategies. The overarching goal of a clinical FP program is to help patients and their physicians consider the impact of treatment on future fertility and facilitate FP efforts in what is often a limited time period before cancer treatment begins.
Deeper Integrative Neural Network Analysis for Multi-level Omics Data
Jayeon Lim,Junsang Cho,JaeYoung Kim,Jiyeon Kim,SungHwan Kim 계명대학교 자연과학연구소 2019 Quantitative Bio-Science Vol.38 No.2
Recently, various machine learning methods have emerged for analyzing and interpreting the ever-expanding genetic data. In addition, new analytical tools for machine learning using statistical models, are being developed. Lim et al. [1] proposed the integrative deep learning to find the differentially expressed (DE) biomarkers using deep neural network with a single hidden layer. This method consists of the input layer, a hidden layer, the consolidation layer, and the output layer. They found that integrative deep learning method is stable and robust for analysis of the variation in the simulation datasets. In this study, we expanded the integrative deep learning method by including an additional hidden layer. The present expanded method consists of the input layer, two hidden layers, the consolidation layer and the output layer. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the additional hidden layers on the performance of the previous method (integrative deep learning). We conducted a simulation study and compared the results with those from deep neural network with one hidden layer.

Among linear a-olefins, 1-octene is widely used as a starting material in the industrial production of plastics, oils, waxes, and surfactants. The adsorption separation of gaseous olefin/paraffin using variousadsorbents has been extensively studied; however, detailed studies on the adsorption separation ofliquid-phase olefin/paraffin are scant. In this study, we systematically investigated the selective adsorptionof 3A, 4A, 5A, and 13X bead-shaped zeolites from 1-octene/n-octane liquid binary mixture as a functionof type and weight of the zeolites. Batch-type adsorption experiments were performed in the 1-octene volume fraction range of 10–90 %. The results show that 5A and 13X zeolites are promising adsorbentsfor selective 1-octene adsorption owing to the preferential adsorption of 1-octene on the cationsites in the micropore. Contrastingly, both 1-octene and n-octane cannot enter 3A and 4A micropores, resulting in negligible preferential adsorption of 1-octene over n-octane. The Langmuir constant of 5Ais higher than that of 13X due to the stronger polarization effect of Ca2+ compared to that of Na+, resultingin additional attractive interaction between the adsorbent and 1-octene. The experimental analysis presentedin this study provides a solid basis for the development of selective adsorbents for the liquid–liquidseparation.

<P>Recognizing the importance of molecular coplanarity and with the aim of developing new, ideal strong acceptor-building units in semiconducting polymers for high-performance organic electronics, herein we present a simplified single-step synthesis of novel vinylene- and acetylene-linked bis-benzothiadiazole (<B>VBBT</B> and <B>ABBT</B>) monomers with enlarged planarity relative to a conventionally used acceptor, benzothiadiazole (BT). Along these lines, four polymers (<B>PDPP-VBBT</B>, <B>PDPP-ABBT</B>, <B>PIID-VBBT</B>, and <B>PIID-ABBT</B>) incorporating either <B>VBBT</B> or <B>ABBT</B> moieties are synthesized by copolymerizing with centro-symmetric ketopyrrole cores, such as diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) and isoindigo (IID), and their electronic, physical, and transistor properties are studied. These polymers show relatively balanced ambipolar transport, and <B>PDPP-VBBT</B> yields hole and electron mobilities as high as 0.32 and 0.13 cm2 V–1 s–1, respectively. Interestingly, the acetylenic linkages lead to enhanced electron transportation in ketopyrrole-based polymers, showing a decreased threshold voltage and inverting voltage in the transistor and inverter devices, respectively. The IID-based BBT polymers exhibit the inversion of the dominant polarity depending on the type of unsaturated carbon bridge. Owing to their strong electron-accepting ability and their highly π-extended and planar structures, <B>VBBT</B> and <B>ABBT</B> monomers should be extended to the rational design of high-performance polymers in the field of organic electronics.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/cmatex/2014/cmatex.2014.26.issue-17/cm500800u/production/images/medium/cm-2014-00800u_0008.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/cm500800u'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
