Vol.31 No.1

This study figured out which aspect was shown in light of historical context as for works such as < Giselle > by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, which can be said to be the essence of romantic ballet, < Giselle > choreographed in 1982 by Mats Ek, and < She, Giselle > by James Jeon at Seoul Ballet Theatre, who re-analyzed it with 21C modern sense in our country. These three works were greatly influenced by historical characteristics at that time. Giselle in the 19th century contained a weak woman``s image, which was lost the female identity, while being noticeably indicated sociality at that time that had emphasized the social class. Mats Ek``s Giselle, which was contained the unique philosophy, expressed the happening a little more realistically that Giselle goes to a mental hospital in Act II. James Jeon``s < She, Giselle > depicted a strong woman who takes responsibility for a child with earning monty by having the body as medium after going to a red-light district instead of death, thereby having depicted the female subject, who gains freedom in the spiritual aspect. In this way, even the classic ballet works are expressed differently depending on philosophical propensity to which a choreographer points according to historical flow and also to sociality of each country.

Use of extended conversation to enhance vocabulary knowledge in English for employment classes

        James Matthew(James Matthew ),Frank Bennett(Frank Bennett ),허선민(Seonmin Huh) 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2022 영어교육연구 Vol.34 No.3

Many English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs focus on students’ oral proficiency and lack the content needed to assist students to develop lexical compilation for use in real workplace contexts. The current study will build upon the existing literature by developing pedagogy to assist students in their workplace readiness, focusing on a strong practical command of relevant English vocabulary. The research focuses on the pedagogy two professors incorporated in their English for employment courses, when teaching employment-related concept vocabulary. A qualitative case study of two foreign professors in the department of English in two Korean universities guided the current study. Pre-made recorded video lectures, live online class sessions with students, lesson plans and class materials were collected for data analysis. The study then focused on determining representative patterns in the professors’ teaching methods. Pedagogy that extended career specific concept vocabulary into authentic English conversation with three main steps was found. Firstly, students were taught concept vocabulary. Secondly, the vocabulary was then combined in speaking activities where students not only had to solve scenarios but also were required to expand on the given forms of words and language expressions. Lastly, the students had extended authentic conversations in English, using the target concept vocabulary learnt. Educational implications have been discussed. (211 words)

Special Edition: Antidumping Laws and Their Enforcements Guest Editor: James Hartigan : Strategic Lobbying and Antidumping

1994 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.9 No.2

Anti-dumping is often defended as a pressure valve which reduces more illiberal forms of protectionist pressure. In the domino dumping model of Anderson [1992, 1993] this need not be true as exporters dump to obtain market access in the event of a VER. The contribution of this paper is to show that anti-dumping opens a channel for strategic lobbying through which lobbying commitments can have favorable effects on the decisions of exporting firms, and through which antidumping enforcement can encourage lobbying. Thus a ``depoliticizing`` institution can perversely be responsible for politicizing trade policy all the more.

Special Edition: Antidumping Laws and Their Enforcements Guest Editor: James Hartigan : Strategic Responses to Antidumping Laws and Legal Interpretations: Producing for Export Markets Using Lawyers and Other Factors of Production

1994 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.9 No.2

This paper explores in the context of a stylized model of dumping some possible strategic responses to the use of "cumulation" and "threat of material injury" in dumping investigations. In particular, it is shown that these guidelines for investigations can change the payoff structure of competition abroad and thereby induce reduced competition and optimal-from an individual firm point of view-excess capacity.

Management of rare ectopic teeth eruption: case series

Olutayo James(Olutayo James ),Ibrahim Kayode Suleiman(Ibrahim Kayode Suleiman ),Mukhtar Modibbo Ahmad(Mukhtar Modibbo Ahmad ),Hector Oladapo Olasoji(Hector Oladapo Olasoji ) 대한구강악안면외과학회 2023 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.49 No.2

Objectives: An ectopic tooth is a rare eruption of a tooth out of the normal dental apparatus and occurs commonly with the third molar. Thus, in this study, we reported a case series of ectopic teeth in rare jaw locations and highlight the associated pathology and our experience in the surgical management. Patients and Methods: All cases of ectopic tooth managed at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital from January 2011 to December 2020 were reviewed. The information retrieved includes biodata, location of the ectopic tooth, signs, symptoms, type of tooth and associated pathology, surgical approach and complications. Results: Ten cases of ectopic teeth were identified over the study period. This comprised 80.0% males with a mean age was 23.3 years. The antrum and lower border of the mandible accounted for 50.0% and 40.0% of the ectopic locations, respectively. Dentigerous cyst was the most associated pathology (70%) and usually presented with pain and swelling. Surgical intervention predominantly via the intraoral route was performed if indicated. Conclusion: Ectopic teeth are rare and not always associated with pathology. A high index of suspicion and radiological investigation are necessary for diagnosis. A more extensive multi-center study is however recommended to determine the prevalence of ectopic teeth other than the third molar.

Articles : Bifurcated vs. Single Injury Determination in USITC Antidumping Investigations

1990 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.5 No.1

The Trade Agreements Act of 1979 mandates that a material injury determination be made in unfair trade practices investigations. These are conducted by the U.S. International Trade Commission(USITC). The USITC has generally, but not consistently, followed a bifurcated injury determination procedure. This is controversial and is alleged to be dispositive. A bifurcated procedure militates against finding affirmatively on the basis of threat of injury. Using a cross sectional regression to explain abnormal returns generated on decision dates in the investigation of unfair practices, this paper provides a profile of firms that are likely to benefit from protection. These are the firms that are likely to be denied protection by the bifurcated procedure.

op Down vs. Grassroots E-Government: A Comparative Analysis of the Effectiveness of E-Procurement against Corruption in Malaysia and Korea

Vol.11 No.3

Purpose: Democratization and social structure have been identified as critical factors affecting E-Government’s corruption fighting capacity. To determine how E-Government functions differently against corruption in democratic egalitarian vs. authoritarian inegalitarian nations, this study examines the factors behind Korea’s successful anti-corruption E-Procurement program KONEPS and Malaysia’s less successful E-Perolehan program. Originality: Despite the contributions of large sample empirical work, no in-depth case analysis has yet shown how democracy and egalitarian social structure increases E-Government’s effectiveness against corruption, which is important for those interested in reforming under-utilized or ineffectively applied E-Government systems. Methodology: This longitudinal case study unpacks the causal mechanisms between cause and outcome, comparing and contrasting the development of E-Government, in particular, E-Procurement in two East Asian NICS: the consolidated egalitarian democracy of South Korea and single party, inegalitarian Malaysia. Result: Democratization and an egalitarian social structure provided incentives for citizens and politicians to back E-Government as a graft-fighting tool. Korean civic groups pressed to stop corruption and helped design KONEPS to reduce bureaucratic discretion over the selection of tender winners and release of annual purchasing plans and detailed bid information. In contrast, the Malaysian state introduced E-Government to bolster the ruling UMNO’s image and intentionally maintained E-Perolehan’s information asymmetries and bureaucratic discretion to preserve lucrative corruption schemes. Conclusion and Implication: Malaysia’s newly elected opposition party politicians have a strong incentive to use E-Perolehan against corruption by releasing more information regarding procurement plans, contract details and selection criteria while eliminating bureaucratic discretion over the selection of tender winners.

Just like Korea in the 1970s? Slow Policy Transfer and the Fiction of Familiarity

Vol.11 No.4

Purpose: Practitioners are often tempted to accelerate the policy transfer process by taking shortcuts on the basis of reductive comparisons between donor and recipient. This, however, often hinders the effectiveness of policy transfer. To improve the policy transfer process and thereby the policies implemented, this paper introduces an actor-network theoretical approach to understanding policy transfer. By employing Korea’s Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) as a case, the paper also seeks to increase the effectiveness of policy transfer from Korea to its development partners. Originality: This paper contributes to the literature on policy transfer by introducing and adapting the Translation model of scientific knowledge production to policy transfer. This model allows for an enriched understanding of knowledge production in the policy transfer process and introduces the notion of “slow policy”. Methodology: The paper adopts a multimethodological approach. It first draws on World Development Indicators to compare Korea’s historical conditions with its development partners’ contemporary conditions. It then employs the science and technology studies literature to develop an improved model of policy transfer. Finally, existing literature is employed to apply this model to the KSP. Result: This article establishes first that Korea in its development decades was substantially different from its priority development partners today. It then introduces “slow policy”, which entails deeper engagement with recipients in formulating problems, conducting analyses, and developing more robust policies. Conclusion and Implication: The slow policy model suggests that time constraints inhibit the KSP’s capacity for producing co-learning outcomes and for developing truly custom-tailored policy recommendations. Slowing down implementation and extending personnel exchanges would produce deeper mutual learning, improve policy recommendations and implementation, and cultivate a new generation of experts.
