Chuzan disease of which the main clinical abnormalities were impairment of mobility and nervous signs took place in a calf breeding farm in Cheju province during the period of March, 1993. The serological survey indicated that antibody to Chuzan virus was present at a high rate in Cheju province, while it was at a low rate in the Honam area of the mainland. The retrospective sero-epidemiological investigations strongly suggested that Chuzan virus comes to Korea from the Southeast Asian countries and the first outbreak of Korea is simultaneous with that of Japan. A preliminary study for development of an inactivated Chuzan virus vaccine was performed. The binary ethylenimine treated-tissue culture fluid with a gel adjuvant had good immunogenicity in cattle. To control this disease in Korea, an inactivated Chuzan virus vaccine is scheduled for practical use in the field in the near future.

The DNA fragment representing for Pseudorabies gp50 and gp60(Shope) was cloned by recombinant techniques. The viral DNA was extracted from the infected cells and digested with Bam HI. The 6.8 Kb of Bam HI fragment was isolated from agarose gel and further digested with Nde I followed by Klenow treatment. The blunt ended 4.9Kb fragment was cloned into pTZ18R plasmid vector. The upstream region of gp50 was further manipulated to remove its 5' promoter region and create EcoRl site for possible eukaryotic expression system. The result of partial sequencing of cloned DNA indicated that Shope strain showed 95% homology with gp50 of Rice strain.
증례 : 혈액종양 ; 악성 허리근 증후군으로 발현된 원발부위 불명의 전이성 편평세포암 1예

저자들은 허리근 및 요추 부위에 전이성 편평세포암을 진단하였고, 면역조직화학 분석을 통하여 자궁경부암 기원일 가능성이 높다고 추정하였으며, 적극적인 수술요법, cisplatin을 근간으로 한 복합항암화학요법, 그리고 방사선요법을 통해 악성 허리근 증후군에 따른 증상의 호전과 완전관해를 보였으며 진단 후 16개월째 재발이 되었으나 20개월 이상의 생존기간이 관찰되고 있는 증례를 경험하였다. 전이성 편평 세포암은 원발 미상의 전이암 중 낮은 발생 빈도를 보이므로 연구가 부족하였지만, 본 저자들은 치료가 가능한 암군을 감별 진단하고자 하는 노력으로, 적극적인 진단적 접근 및 치료를 시행하므로서 장기생존이 가능한 증례를 경험하였다. Malignancy of unknown origin is not unusual and has a poor prognosis. We report a case of metastatic squamous cell cancer to the psoas muscle and the lumbar spine as a malignancy of unknown origin, in which a metastatic survey had no definite primary focus. Based on the results of immunohistochemical staining, including for p63 and human herpes virus 8, we believed the origin of this metastatic squamous cell carcinoma to have been a uterine cervical cancer. Combined treatments, including cytoreductive surgery, cisplatin-based combination chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, were performed. The patient responded completely and has been alive for 20 months after the diagnosis. (Korean J Med 77:S1298-S1303, 2009)

A case of neosporosis is described in a 6-month-old aborted bovine fetus. Grossly, numerous, well-demarcated, 2-3mm, yellowish white foci were scattered in the heart and skeletal muscle. Histopathologic changes were confined to the brain, heart, and skeletal muscle. Multifocal areas of necrotizing encephalitis were observed in the cerebrum as well as cerebellum. Severe multifocal to coalescing nonsuppurative inflammation was observed in the myocardium and skeletal muscle. The tachyzoites of Neospora caninum were demonstrated in the brain, myocardium and skeletal muscle with immunohistochemical method using Neospora caninum-specific antibody. Based on the histopathology and immunohistochemistry, this case was diagnosed as neosporosis in aborted Korean cattle. This is believed to be the first reported case of bovine neosporosis in Korea.

The Neospora sp. was isolated from the brain of 1 calf via continuous in vitro cultivation in Vero cell. Neospora tachyzoites were observed 45 days after inoculation of the homogenized brain suspension into the Vero cell. The isolated parasite (named tentatively as NCKB-1) was morphologically and ultrastructurally similar to the previously reported Neospora sp isolated in cattle (BPA-1, JPA-1). A comparison of the antigenic reactivity of cultivated tachyzoites with polyclonal antisera to Neospora caninum and Toxoplasma gondii confirmed that this protozoal isolate was similar to N caninum. This is the first report of successful isolation of Neospora sp from cattle in Korea.
抗生物質 amoxicillin 原料 및 salinomycin 添加劑의 安定性 調査

The amount of consumption of antibiotics including salinomycin and amoxicillin trihydrate has been growing day by day as a variety of disease occured in recent years. But the terms of validity of amoxicillin and salinomycin was not determined in Korea as yet. We examed the stability of amoxicillin trihydrate by checking the change of potency, pH, content of water and property under the ambient and stress condition (40℃, humidity 30~70%) and there was little change in potency, pH, content of water and property till the 30 months during the preservation time and salinomycin was same here so it will be possible to establish the terms of validity about 24 months in case of amoxicillin trihydrate and salinomycin feed additives.
