<P>Although the selection of a construction method for each type of work is an important factor in determining the quality of a building, the construction duration, costs, and methods are currently being selected according to the subjective judgment of the person in charge, without sufficient consideration of the characteristics of the work type. As a response to this issue, this study proposes a process model to support decision making when selecting the most suitable construction method for major types of construction work. The study used the risk response level model, which connects the conditions of the order and the site, the constructability of the type of work within the site, a review of the economic efficiency of the work site, the forced-decision method, and binary weighting analysis in the construction planning phase. As a result of the application of this model to the construction method selection process for the construction of soil-retaining walls, the factors to be preferably considered in the field cases were analyzed in the order of the environmental, ground, design, construction, structural, and site conditions. Further, the risk response level of each construction method was calculated via risk response level analysis, subject to four applicable construction methods.</P>
Design of Memory-Access-Effective H.264 Intra Predictor Integrated with Motion Compensator

In H.264 decoder, intra prediction is a powerful tool for higher compression efficiency from correlation removal of adjacent samples in spatial domain. Therefore, intra predictor requires reference images for adjacent samples. Also, motion compensator and deblocking filter require reference images stored in external memory. They read external frame memory very frequently. Thus, H.264 decoder suffers from frequent memory access. This paper proposes an intra predictor integrated with motion compensator without external frame memory. It was synthesized in 0.18 ㎛ standard cell library. The total gate count, the maximum operating frequency, and the maximum throughput are about 284K gates, 108㎒, CIF 30 fps, respectively.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The extent of subsurface damage on (0001) GaN wafers post different polishing treatments was quantified using depth-resolved cathodoluminescence spectroscopy (DRCLS). The band edge emission spectra were obtained from CLS with different electron energies, which manifested a significant non-radiative recombination resulted from polishing-induced subsurface damage. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM) was also used to diagnose the extent of the subsurface damage layer. For the GaN polished with 1.00 and 0.25 μm diamonds abrasive, the extent of non-radiative subsurface damage is about 250 and 100 nm, corresponding to the calculated electron penetration depth at the accelerating voltage for the onset of band edge emission. In this study, the depth of subsurface damage estimated from CL spectra compared well with direct XTEM measurements in GaN substrate.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Subsurface polishing defects of bulk gallium nitride substrates have been studied. </LI> <LI> Estimated the subsurface damage depth. </LI> <LI> The subsurface damage defects are due to plastic deformation and are non-radiative. </LI> </UL> </P>
Design and Implementation of Memory-Access-Effective and Power-Consumption-Effective H.264 Decoder

This paper proposes a memory-access-effective and power-consumption-effective H.264 decoder for mobile multimedia applications. To reduce area and power, the proposed H.264 decoder is designed and implemented in fully hardwired architecture. The variable length decoder is implemented without embedded processors, and the common input buffer is used between CAVLC decoder and exp-Golomb decoder. In the deblocking filter, filtering can be skipped on several pixels when some skipping conditions meet. Furthermore, to minimize memory access, intra predictor is merged with motion compensator exploiting internal buffer instead of external memory access.

An empirical equivalent circuit under practical application conditions of microwave varactor diodes is described. The equivalent circuit of varactor diodes in the data sheet provided by the manufacturer consists of adjustable junction capacitance(C<SUB>j</SUB>) which is inherent, parasitic inductance(L<SUB>p</SUB>) and capacitance (C<SUB>p</SUB>). However they are not accurate under the practical usage situation in most case, because the effects of dielectric substrate and via-holes are not considered for the practical usage situation. In this work, the equivalent circuit including the effective parasitic inductance(L<SUB>p,eff</SUB>) which contains the effect of the practical dielectric substrate and via-holes is extracted. The sample diode, MSV34,060-0805-2, is adopted as an example, and its C<SUB>j</SUB>, L<SUB>p</SUB> and C<SUB>p</SUB> on the data sheet are 0.4pF, 0.4nH and 0.06pF, while the empirically extracted C<SUB>j</SUB>, L<SUB>p,eff</SUB> and C<SUB>p</SUB> are 0.487pF, 1.526nH and 0.121pF, respectively. In addition, the extracted L<SUB>p,eff</SUB> and C<SUB>p</SUB> under the variable bias voltages of 0~15V are 1.476~1.567nH and 0.109~0.133pF, which are fairly uniform values with a good reliability.

In this paper, an efficient design and simulation method for exact characteristic impedance of the transmission line with substrate integrated artificial dielectric (SIAD) is described. The optimized square via-hole is adopted instead of circular via structure for the efficient simulation to get the reduced time and computing cost. The simulated characteristic impedance is proved through the practically measured result which is in good agreement with the simulation. The enormous computing time and cost required for the simulation of the transmission line with hundreds of circular via holes are quitely reduced by adopting the square via hole in simulation. Transmission lines with SIAD and various characteristic impedances are designed and fabricated, and the agreement between simulation and measurement is shown. In addition, the parametric study results, which illustrate the characteristic impedance of SIAD transmission lines depends on the via-hole size and pitch, are presented with an excellent agreement.

Void slab is a slab with hollow portions in the center of the slab which reduce a self weight of the slab. The flexural capacity of void slab is almost same with a normal slab, but the shear capacity is reduced according to the increasing of hollow portion. One of the solutions to improve shear capacity is using shear reinforcing bars. In this study, the shear capacity of one-way void slabs is evaluated according to an effective cross section and the capacity of shear reinforcing bars is discussed depending on integration method. As a result, it is shown that the shear capacity tends to be reduced from 0% to 34.5% of hollow rate and slightly increased from 34.5% to 40.0%. And the capacity of integrated shear reinforcing bars are better than the one without integrated shear reinforcing bars.
