Hemolymph vitellogenin and ecdysteroid levels were traced during the reproductive and non-reproductive molt cycles in adult females of the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium nipponense, in which the reproductive development coincides with the molt cycle. During the reproductive molt cycle, vitellogenin levels began to increase at stage B. High levels were maintained during stages C₁-D₃ in concomitance with ovarian growth, and these levels decreased following the prespawning ecdysis. Vitellogenin was at undetectable levels during the non-reproductive molt cycle, and correspondingly, ovarian maturation did not advance. The predominant ecdysteroids in the hemolymph of M. nipponense were determined by HPLC-RIA analysis as 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and immunoreactive high polarity products(HPP). 20E and HPP levels peaked at stage D₃ during both molt cycles. 20E levels declined rapidly to low levels after ecdysis in the reproductive molt cycle. On the other hand, 20E levels decreased slowly during stages A-C₁in the non-reproductive molt cycle. HPP levels immediately declined prior to spawning at stage A_0 and showed a small peak after spawning at stage A₁in the reproductive molt cycle, whereas in the non-reproductive molt cycle levels were still high at stage A and declined slowly during stages B-C₁. These differences in ecdysteroid levels suggest a possible relationship between ecdysteriod levels and vitellogenesis.
S-CODE: A Subdivision Based Coding System for CAD Models
Takarada, Yosuke,Takeuchi, Shingo,Kawano, Isao,Hotta, Jun,Suzuki, Hiromasa Society for Computational Design and Engineering 2003 International Journal of CAD/CAM Vol.3 No.1
A large scale polygon models are often used to approximately represent 3D CAD models in Digital Engineering environment such as DMU (Digital Mockups) and network based collaborative design. However, they are not suitable for distribution on the network and for interactive rendering. We introduce a new coding system based on subdivision schemes called S-CODE system. In this system, it is possible to highly compress the model with sufficient accuracy and to view the model efficiently in a level of detail (LOD) fashion. The method is based on subdivision surface fitting by which a subdivision surface and curves which approximate a face of a CAD model are generated. We also apply a subdivision method to analytic surfaces such as conical and cylindrical surfaces. A prototype system is developed and used for evaluation with reasonably complicated data. The results show that the method is useful as a CAD data coding system.

The site of vitellogenin synthesis in the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium nipponense was examined immunocytochemically using antibodies raised against lipovitellin purified from mature M. nipponense ovaries. The molecular weight of purified lipovitellin was estimated to be 350kDa by gel filtration. The antiserum cross-reacted with vitellogenin in the hemolymph of the mature female prawn, and could therefore be used to demonstrate the possible site of vitellogenin synthesis immunocytochemically employing the peroxidase-anti-peroxidase(PAP) reaction. Hepatopancreas, sub-epidermal tissue, muscle, and ovary were fixed with periodate-lysine paraformaldehyde solution after which parapffin sections were made. In mature females, oocytes at the yolk globule stage, the hepatopancreas and the sub-epidermal tissue of the lateral somites showed positive PAP reaction. However, the sub-epidermal tissue of the ventral somites, follicular cells of the ovary and muscles did not. No positive reaction was observed in males and immature females. These results suggest that vitellogenin is synthesized in the hepatopancreas and at the sub-epidermal tissue in females at the exogenous vitellogenesis stage.
