        Risk mitigation strategy by Passive IN-core Cooling system for advanced nuclear reactors

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>After the Fukushima accident, the installation of passive safety systems for nuclear power plants becomes necessary as protection against external power failures. Recently, an innovative safety system was introduced by employing a hybrid heat-pipe concept asa Passive IN-core Cooling system (PINCs). The hybrid heat-pipe concept employs the combination of a control rod and a heat pipe to passively shutdown a reactor in an accident condition and simultaneously remove decay heat from the core. As a result, a PINCs can handle the entire accident sequence in a single system, leading to significant enhancement in nuclear reactor safety. In this study, the safety enhancement of various nuclear reactors has been quantitatively evaluated by using the probabilistic safety assessment method (PSA). PSA models of the APR1400, PGSFR, and SMART nuclear reactors developed in Korea, are developed, and a PINCs model has been applied to each reactor. The PSA model of the PINCs has been developed based on the systematic design and configuration of each reactor. In addition, postulated accident sequences where the PINCs operates have been developed in the PSA model. Finally, the consequence of each accident sequence has been quantitatively evaluated in the form of core damage frequency (CDF) and minimal cut set (MCS) for each nuclear reactor. Based on the PSA results, it is confirmed that the application of the PINCs effectively reduces the overall CDF of all nuclear reactors. In addition, the failure paths causing the core damage are restricted for APR1400 and PGSFR. In conclusion, the employment of the PINCs significantly improved the overall safety degrees of various nuclear reactors.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> PINCs combines a control rod and a heat pipe to enhance safety of advanced reactors. </LI> <LI> PSA models of advanced reactors are developed including PINCs. </LI> <LI> The consequences of the accident aided by PINCs are quantitatively evaluated. </LI> <LI> PINCs significantly reduces the overall CDFs of all nuclear reactors. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • 배추흰나비(Pieris rapae L.)의 變態에 따른 여러 器官內 lipase 活性에 관한 硏究

        Lipase activities in salivary glands, fat body, and haemolmymph of Pieris rapae L. were measured and compared during metamorphosis, and biochemical properties of lipase in various organs were determined using spectrophotometer UV-240. The temperature and pH optium of lipase in salivary were 30℃ and 8.5 respectively. In fat body and haemolymph pH optima were 8.5 and 8.0 respectively. Lipase activity in salivary glands was maximal in 5th instar larvae declined at Prepupal stage. Lipase activity in fat body was maximal in 5th instar larvae, but drastically reduced at prepupal stage after Which it was increased slowly. Lipase activity in haemolymph was increased continuously from 5th instar larvae to 5day pupae. Metal ions like Hg^++ and Fe^++ acted as an activator, but Ca^++, Mn^++, and Mg^++ did not. Midgut and malpighian tubules did not show any lipase activity while salivary glands, fat, and haemolymph showed lipase activity. Therefore, lipase in Pieris rapae L. is considered to be extra-digestive lipase.

        김수영 시의 자유와 설움의 상관성 연구 -탈식민주의 관점으로-

        김수영은 식민 이후, 전쟁과 분단으로 얼룩진 한국의 현실을 예민한 감각으로 바라봄으로써 역사에 내재된 비애와 설움을 직시하였다. 현실과의 대면이 계속될수록 설움의 강도는 심화되었으며 그로 인한 중압감은 주체의 존립을 위협할 정도였다. 이러한 상황에서 그가 선택한 것은 시를 통한 자유의 이행이었다. 시적 현실과 역사적 현실이 중첩되고 시를 통한 자유의 실현이 역사적 현실로 온전히 이행될 수 있다는 믿음은 그만의 독특한 시적 공간을 창출시켰다. 이는 달리 말하면 역사적 조건이 김수영의 시적 공간을 강화하고 부각시켰음을 의미한다. 요컨대 김수영의 시는 역사적 조건에 대한 설움과 자유의 실현 의지가 끊임없이 충돌하는 긴장의 연속이라 할 수 있다. 김수영 시의 새로움은 자유와 설움의 긴장 관계에서 연유한다고 할 수 있으며 특히, 자유의 이행으로서의 시쓰기는 한국 현대시의 지평을 넓힐 수 있는 단서가 되었다. 본 연구는 첫째, 식민 이후 역사적 조건을 설움으로 인식한 김수영의 태도를 분석하였다. 둘째, 시를 통한 자유의 이행을 현실 변혁의 힘으로 이해한 김수영의 시학을 규명하였다. 셋째, 자유와 설움의 상관성을 통해 김수영의 독특한 시적 공간의 의미를 고찰하였다. 그 의미는 시적 자유의 선취이다. This study is to show the postcolonial identity through understanding the poems of Kim Sooyoung as a process of establishing self―identity of the modern subjects. Kim Sooyoung continually strives to pursue the existential freedom against the backwardness of Korea by internalizing of the modern subjects and by restructuring of the reality through his poems. Nonetheless, his poems reveal the self―contradicting reality of the postcolonial subjects, not securing the consistency of the modern subjects by themselves. Kim Sooyoung scores the existential freedom of individuals by establishing his own poetic space. The freedom, according to him, is poet`s responsibility, right, and manifestation of humanity. He shows his will to confront the external conditions of infeasible freedom to individuals by restructuring the grief and sorrow from desperate situations through critical awareness. Accordingly, his poetic space is the one which diverges from the external conditions and in which the freedom exists. To understand the distinctiveness of his poetic space is a very important clue to trace the various aspects of his poems. This, in summary, is the indispensible foundation to understand the core elements of his poems, such as the boredom of life and the fatigue of modern people, the abstrusity of a complex word with dual meaning, the abusive languages with the attitudes of anti―poetic and in―poetic, the internalized paradox and parody, the duet of love and death, and so on. This study interprets the poems of Kim Sooyoung from the perspective of post―colonialism, in order to contribute to establish the post―coloniality of Korea after colonized periods, from Japan occupation to Korean War and the division of Korean peninsula, by understanding Kim Sooyoung`s recognition and response toward the historical reality, and by interpreting the hidden desire of the modern subjects through the poems of Kim Sooyoung.

      • 클러스터형 VOD서버에서 고가용성을 고려한 자체 복구 시스템

        While clustered VOD (Video On Demand) servers that have been proposed for building large-scale VOD system recently, have the advantages of high availability and scalability, the system level reliability of the clustered VOD servers could be decreased by adding more servers to scale up the capacity of the server. To alleviate this reliability problem and support server-level fault tolerance, this paper proposes and analyzes self recovery system based on RAID-3 and 4 with pipelining concept. The proposed self recovery system could increase the efficiency of the disk by accessing the disk with large size block as in RAID-4. The network resource could be used efficiently and the workload of memory could be decreased by sending data in small size block as in RAID-3. By introducing pipeline concept, the recovery tasks are processed at several nodes in parallel so that the workload in CPU, network, and memory could be distributed to several nodes.

        In order to establish a dyeing method with Magnoliaceae tree species dyeing was examined with 4 different parts, leaf, stem bark, root, flower of 4 Magnohaceae species, Magnolia kobus Dc., Magnolia denudata Desr, Magnolia obovata Thunb, Liriodendron tulipifera L Mordants used were chemicals, AIK(SO_4)_2 24H_2O, Ca(OH)_2, FeSO_4 7H_2O. All four species showed similar coloring among four different parts. Leaves and petals showed dark yellow, stem bark, grayish yellow, root bark, dark red or yellow. Al mordant made more brighter colour than Fe mordant. Stem bark showed less difference in color by mordants, whereas petals did the biggest.

      • Molecular characterization of autophagy-related genes (Atg) in responses to microbial challenges in the Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus

        Autophagy is an important self-eating process to eliminate damaged or unused organelles. We identified nine autophagy-related genes (Atg) including AaAtg-1, -3, -4b, -4d, -5, -6, -8, -12 and -13 from the Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus. Developmental expression patterns indicate that mRNA levels of AaAtg-1, -3, -4b, -4d, -5, -6, -12 and -13 were highly expressed in egg, whereas expression of AaAtg8 was high in 1stand3rdinstarlarvalstages. TissuespecificexpressionofthesegenesindicatesthatAaAtg1 was highly expressed in thorax and midgut in blood-fed adult female mosquitoes (BF), and head and thorax in sugar fed adult female mosquitoes (SF). Transcript level of AaAtg3 was high in thorax in BF, but head, thorax and Malpighian tubules in SF. AaAtg4b, -4d mRNA levels were significantly high in Malpighian tubules in BF, and head in SF, respectively. AaAtg-5 and -6 transcripts were highly expressed in head in BF, and expression of AaAtg-8 was high in Malpighian tubules in BF. Levels of AaAtg-12 and -13 mRNAs were significantly high in head and midgut in BF. Induction patterns of AaAtg genes against pathogens showed that AaAtg-1, -3, -4b, -8, -12 and -13 were strongly induced at 6 h-post injection of S. aureus, and mRNA levels of AaAtg-1, -3 and -13 were significantly induced by E. coli challenge after 3 h-post injection in SF abdominal carcass. In SF midgut, AaAtg-1, -3, -4b, -4d, -5, -6, -12 and -13 transcripts were drastically induced at 9 h-injection of E. coli and S. aureus, while expression of AaAtg-8 was highly induced by S. aureus and C. albicans at 9 h-post injection. Each AaAtg gene was slightly induced by E. coli, S. aureus or C. albicans at different time points in abdominal carcass in BF. Interestingly, AaAtg-8 was not induced by microbial challenge. While eight other Atg genes except AaAtg-8 were highly influenced by S. aureus at 6 and 9 h-post injection, E. coli at 3 h-post-treatment, and 3, 6, and 9 h-post inoculation. In the future, we will characterize the functional roles of autophagy during mosquito-microbes interaction.

        신혈관성 고혈압 진단과 Captopril 검사

        N/A Background: The Captopril test (Muller, 1986) appears to represent a simple and useful screening tool in the diagnosis of renovascular hypertension. The limitations of the sennsitivity, specificity have been reported under certain circumstances. We performed this study to evaluate the sensitivity, specificity and predictive value of the Captopril test in the diagnosis of renovascular hypertension. Methods: We calculated the sensitivity, specicity and predictive value of the Captopril test in 26patients with clinical suspicion of renovasculr hypertension. We performed the Captopril test and renal angiography in these patients. Results; 1) The Captopril test was positive in 8 patients (30.7%), in whom 26renovascular hypertension were suspected. 2) The mean value of basal and stimulated plasma renin activity were 4.55±1.74ng/ml/hr and 19.89±7.19ng/ml/hr respectively, in 8patients with positive Captopril test. The mean value of percent increase of stimulated PRA was 384±227.9% in these patients. 3) The mean value of basal and stimulated plasma renin activity were 7.27±5.29ng/hr and 8. 78±5.89ng/ ml/hr respectively, in patients with negative Captopril test. The mean value of percent increase of stimulated PRA was 34.61±30.56% in these patients. 4) In patients with postivie Captopril test, there were 4true positive (50%) and 4false positive (50%) by renal angiography. In 18patients with negative Captopril test, there was 1false negative who had abnormal angiography. 5) The sensitivity, specificity and predictive value of the Captopril test were 80%, 81% and 50% respectively. Conclusion: The Captopril test seems to have limitations of sensitivity, specificity and predictive value in the diagnosis of renovascular hypertension. The careful clinical clinical application of Captopril test and renal angiography should be considered in the diagnosis of renovascular hypertension.

        <P>In some cases, it is difficult to differentiate essential tremor (ET) from Parkinson's disease (PD), especially in the early stages of the disease. We investigated cardiac sympathetic dysfunction using <SUP>123</SUP>I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) myocardial scintigraphy in 22 patients with ET, in comparison with early PD and tremor-dominant PD (TDPD). The mean ratio of <SUP>123</SUP>I-MIBG uptake in the region of interest in the heart to that in the mediastinum (H/M ratio) was significantly greater in patients with ET (1.99 ± 0.21) than in those with either TDPD (1.28 ± 0.11) or early PD (1.28 ± 0.17; each P < 0.001). The H/M ratio in all patients with ET was greater than two standard deviations above the range of the ratio in the patients with early PD or TDPD. © 2006 Movement Disorder Society</P>

        Seroprevalence of the swine influenza A virus in domestic pigs in the Republic of Korea

        Influenza A virus (IAV) causes respiratory disease in birds and mammals, including pigs and humans. Infection by IAV in pigs increases not only economic losses in the swine industry but also the emergence of novel IAV variants via gene reassortment, which is important due to the susceptibility of both birds and humans to IAV. This study provides serological data obtained during a study to detect IAV infections in pigs in the Republic of Korea during 2018 and 2019. A total of 1,559 samples were collected from 74 domestic pig farms. Hemagglutination inhibition (HI) assays were performed using the A/Swine/Korea/25-13(H1N1), A/Swine/Korea/E102 (H1N2), and A/Swine/Korea/Cy10/2007 (H3N2) viruses as antigens. The HI assay results showed that 266 of the 1,559 samples were seropositive (17.0%). Among these, H1N1, H1N2, and H3N2 comprised 7.3% (114), 6.0% (93), and 8.8% (137) of the 1,559 samples, respectively. Co-infections of H1N1/H1N2, H1N1/H3N2, H1N2/H3N2 and H1N1/H1N2/H3N2 were observed in 2.1% (31), 1.5% (23), 1.5% (24), and 0.8% (13) of the 1,559 samples, respectively. Interestingly, IAV infections were detected in all nine provinces of the country.
