Nowadays, environment pollution caused by development of industrial society becomes a serious social problem. So, ozonized gas is suggested as a counter plan against the problem. In this paper, a double cylindrical type ozonizer has been designed and manufactured to improve ozone yield by cooling external electrode. The ozonizer equipped with three electrodes(central, internal and external electrodes) and two gaps. Discharge and ozone characteristics are described in this paper by varying flow rate( Q ) of oxygen suppling gas, temperature of cooling gas and supplied voltage.
침-평판 전극계를 이용한 정극성 코로나 방전형 오존발생기의 특성

In this paper, positive corona discharge type ozonizer using needle-plane electrodes is designed and manufactured. This paper describes the discharge and ozone generation characteristics with variation of applied voltage, number of needle, angel of needle and quantity of flowing material gas. The important conclusions are as follows. The discharge voltage and current are proportional to V₂ and θ, the ozone concentration is proportional to the discharge frequency. The ozone concentration and generation are proportional to V₂, θ and N₁. As the maximum value of ozone concentration and generation of positive corona discharge type ozonizer using needle-plane electrodes can be obtained 271[ppm] and 18.5[㎎/h] respectively. The ozone concentration of 271[ppm] can be sterilized Escherichia coli.

Discharge characteristics research for high voltage and large current electric machinery design, the development of ozonizer with high yield and efficiency for environment improvement, generation of plasma & laser and EMI·EMC are research fields of Enersy & Environment Electromagnetic Laboratory(EEEL) in the school of electrical & electronic engineering of Yeungnam University. On this paper, we would like to introduce the discharge and ozone generation characteristics of ozonizers designed and manufactured by EEEL. After starting research for fluid gas discharge characteristics early in the 1980"s, high voltage nozzle(HVN) type ozonizer, neon lamp(Nelamp) type ozonizer, ozone lamp(Olamp) type ozonizer and multi-discharge type ozonizer(MDO) have been investigated since 1990.

In order to improve ozone generation, we experimentally investigated the silent discharge plasma and ozone generation characteristics of a multi-discharge type ozonizer. Ozone in a multi-discharge type ozonizer is generated by superposition of a silent discharge plasma, which is simultaneously generated in separated discharge spaces. A multi-discharge type ozonizer is composed of three dierent kinds of superposed silent discharge type ozonizers, depending on the method of applying power to each electrode. We observed that the discharge period of the current pulse for a multidischarge type ozonizer can be longer than that of silent discharge type ozonizer with two electrodes and one gap. Hence, ozone generation is improved up to 17185 ppm and 783 g/kwh in the case of the superposed silent discharge type ozonizer for which an AC high voltages with a 180 phase dierence were applied to the internal electrode and the external electrode, respectively, with the central electrode being grounded.

In order to carnation productivity improvement, ozonizer and negative ionizer has been designed and manufactured. The ozone is generated by DC positive streamer discharge and the negative ion is generated by DC negative discharge. When the ozone and negative ion are supplied growth room and farm to carnation cultivation the carnation productivity is improved.

In this paper, complex discharge type ozonizer with a screw type electrode has been designed and manufactured for environmental improvement using low power and high efficency ozoniazer. The complex discharge type ozonizer is equipped with three electrodes{central electrode(CE), internal electrode(IE) and external electrode(EE)}. Ozone of the complex discharge type ozonizer is generated by superposition of silent discharge and surface discharge in discharge space as a screw type CE and IE are respectively applied to AC high voltage of inverse-polarity has 180[°] phase difference, EE is common electrode. In this time, when oxygen has been used as supplied gas, the maximum values of ozone concentration, ozone generation and ozone yield were obtained as 8,334[ppm], 3,249[㎎/h] and 65.3[g/kwh].
