디지털 콘텐츠는 스마트폰에 따른 모바일 환경이 급속히 발달함에 따라 많은 변화를 맞고 있다. 통신기기와 컴퓨터가 융합된 스마트 모바일 디바이스에서 디지털 콘텐츠가 여러 부가 기능을 가진 새로운 콘텐츠의 형태로 나타나고 있다. 모바일 콘텐츠의 특징은 융합화와 분절화로 볼 수 있는데 두 종의 콘텐츠가 결합하여 새로운 형태의 콘텐츠로서 소비자에게 제시되었고, 애플리케이션의 사용에 있어서 감성적인 측면과 기능적 측면을 향상시키는 이모티콘, 벨소리 등의 분절화된 디지털 콘텐츠가 모바일 환경에서 수익을 창출하는 디지털 콘텐츠로 나타났다. 모바일 환경에서는 전통적인 엔터테인먼트 콘텐츠 이외에도 정보, 커뮤니케이션과 결합한 디지털 콘텐츠가 사회적 연결망을 이용하여 유통되고 이에 적절한 수익모델들이 나타날 것이다. Digital contents encounter major changes in the development of mobile digital devices and mobile infrastructure. Smart mobile devices that combine the function of phone and computer caused the development of new digital contents. Mobile environment both shortens the digital contents used in internet environment and modifies the format and the nature of digital contents for various purposes. Two typical characteristics of mobile digital contents are convergent and fragmented. Combination of different contents from various industries within one mobile device helps the emergence of new mobile contents. Master tones, ring back tunes and emotional icons in text messages are the examples of fragmented digital contents that enhance the function of mobile devices by adding artistic elements to fulfill the emotional needs of consumers. In addition to traditional entertainment contents, hybrid forms of digital contents that include information and communication function will generate new business model through social network services in mobile environment.
