As the various manufacturing technology of optical glass is developed, the aspherical lenses are applied to many fields. However, It is still very difficult to manufacture glass lens because of the high cost and the short life of core. In recent years, the demands of the aspherical glass lenses increase since it is difficult to obtain the desirable performance in the plastic lens. In the glass mold lens, it has merits of high productivity and reproductivity since lens is manufactured by the only forming with high precision mold. The fabricating conditions for glass mold lens are glass surface that does not cause fusion, viscosity of 108-1013 poise for the 0.2㎛ accuracy, and viscoelasticity for the roughness less than 100 angstrom. In this thesis, ultra-precision grinding characteristics of tungsten carbide for forming the aspherical glass lens core were studied and the result of it is applied to manufacture the tungsten carbide-base core of the glass lens used to the laser scanning unit and the camera phone.

This study investigated the phenomena of membrane fouling by NOM and the effect of the fouling on removal of micro-pollutants. NOM has a great effect on decline of permeate flux. Permeate flow rate was reduced by 88% in RO and 34.8% in NF for 323hr operation period. Removal rate of UV_(254), is 87.4% in RO and 78.5% in NF and removal rate of DOC is 42.7% in RO and 32.9% in NF for 2㎎/l humic acid. Removal efficiency of the micmpollutants by the RO and NF membranes fouled by humic acid was mostly lower than that by the new membrane. The concentration polarization which affects the flux and the rejection was thought to occur in the active layer of the membrane, as the membrane was getting fouled.

Objective: This study was conducted to perform histomorphometric evaluations of the bone surrounding orthodontic miniscrews according to their proximity to the adjacent tooth roots in the posterior mandible of beagle dogs. Methods: Four male beagle dogs were used for this study. Six orthodontic miniscrews were placed in the interradicular spaces in the posterior mandible of each dog (n = 24). The implanted miniscrews were classified into no loading, immediate loading, and delayed loading groups according to the loading time. At 6 weeks after screw placement, the animals were sacrificed, and tissue blocks including the miniscrews were harvested for histological examinations. After analysis of the histological sections, the miniscrews were categorized into three additional groups according to the root proximity: high root proximity, low root proximity, and safe distance groups. Differences in the bone–implant contact (BIC, %) among the root proximity groups and loading time groups were determined using statistical analyses. Results: No BIC was observed within the bundle bone invaded by the miniscrew threads. Narrowing of the periodontal ligament space was observed in cases where the miniscrew threads touched the bundle bone. BIC (%) was significantly lower in the high root proximity group than in the low root proximity and safe distance groups. However, BIC (%) showed no significant differences among the loading time groups. Conclusions: Regardless of the loading time, the stability of an orthodontic miniscrew is decreased if it is in contact with the bundle bone as well as the adjacent tooth root.

A patient diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) suffering from numbness in the toes and fingers, paralysis in the face, and back pain received intravenous immunoglobulin on December 28, 2019. Without an improvement in symptoms the patient was admitted to a Korean medicine hospital on January 1, 2020 to receive combined Korean medicine treatment including herbal medicine (Sipjeondaebo-tanggami and Hyangbujasunkipalmul-tang), acupuncture treatment, moxibustion, cupping treatment, and physical therapy. Treatment was administered over 51 days, of which 17 days were during hospitalization. Paralysis of facial muscle, and numbness in fingers and toes were evaluated using the Yanagihara score and numeric rating scale (NRS) score, respectively. Facial paralysis improved (21 to 40 based on Yanagihara score) and paresthesia of the hands and feet disappeared (NRS score 6-7 to NRS score 0). There were no side effects or sequela. This study suggested combined Korean medicine treatment may be effective for the treatment of GBS.

Temporal variation of nutrients and dissolved major and trace elements have been studied in the Yeongsan River, Korea. There were significant temporal fluctuations in the concentrations of these elements depending upon the flow condition. $NH_4$, $PO_4$, Na, Mg, Ca, K, Mn, Cu, Ni, Zn, Co, As and U concentrations were inversely related to the flow; that is, they are the highest at low flow and the lowest at high flow. It indicates that these elements are derived from point sources such as rock weathering and/or human activities and then diluted by increasing flow. Meanwhile, Fe and Si concentrations varied proportionally to the flow indicating that they are derived from diffuse sources including reactions within soil. The concentration-flow relationships showed that hydrology of the river is the most important factor controlling the chemical composition of the Yeongsan riverwater, which was compatible of the results of R-mode factor analysis.

Thioredoxin-like protein 1 (TXNL1), one of the thioredoxin superfamilyknown as redox-regulator, plays an essential in maintainingcell survival via various antioxidant and anti-apoptoticmechanisms. It is well known that relationship between ischemiaand oxidative stress, however, the role of TXNL1 protein inischemic damage has not been fully investigated. In the presentstudy, we aimed to determine the protective role of TXNL1against on ischemic injury in vitro and in vivo using cellpermeable Tat-TXNL1 fusion protein. Transduced Tat-TXNL1inhibited ROS production and cell death in H2O2-exposedhippocampal neuronal (HT-22) cells and modulated MAPKsand Akt activation, and pro-apoptotic protein expression levelsin the cells. In an ischemia animal model, Tat-TXNL1 markedlydecreased hippocampal neuronal cell death and the activationof astrocytes and microglia. These findings indicate thatcell permeable Tat-TXNL1 protects against oxidative stress invitro and in vivo ischemic animal model. Therefore, we suggestTat-TXNL1 can be a potential therapeutic protein for ischemicinjury.

Reactions to a bee sting ranges from mild erythema to severe anaphylactic reactions. Occasionally, a sting may be retained in the skin and a foreign body reaction to the sting may persist. In traditional Korean medicine, bee sting therapy applies a bee sting directly into a lesion to treat various diseases. Although, some cases about foreign body reaction induced by bee sting were reported, there is no report showing bee sting in biopsy specimens. A 50-year-old woman presented mild pruritic grouped papules on both lip angles for 7 months. She had suffered from recurrent herpes simplex. As a treatment, multiple bee stings had been applied on the the skin lesions several months before. Interestingly, we found apparatuses suspected to be retained stings of bees, which were showed as yellow sticks with central cavity filled with eosinophilic venom in the biopsy specimen. The retained apparatuses were surrounded by hair follicle-like structure and a granulomatous inflammatory cell infiltrate. In H&E staining, that apparatuses were consistent with bee stings. Cutaneous reactions induced by long-standing retention of bee stings in the tissues may cause some difficulties in diagnosis, because of nonspecific, neoplasm-like changes in clinical and histopathological examination. Herein, we report an interesting case of a foreign body reaction induced by retained bee stings, demonstrated in comparison with live bee stings.
