Objective:We studied the effect of Hyu-Sig-Gong-Gan and Hye-Ah-Rim on several evaluations and compared the two programs. We then investigated factors associated with the difference between pre- and post-ratings. Methods:Thirty-six patients were randomized to Hyu-Sig-Gong-Gan (n=23) or Hye-Ah-Rim (n=13). We tested for the effect of each program on several evaluations and compared the two programs through Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale, Dementia Attitude Scale (DAS)-intelligence, DAS-comfort and DAS-total. We then investigated whether the difference between pre- and post-rating depends on other factors. Results:We observed significant positive effect of Hyu-Sig-Gong-Gan on DAS-comfort (t=1.843, p=0.039) and significant positive effect of Hye-Ah-Rim on ZBI (t=-2.327, p=0.019), DAS-comfort (t=2.241, p=0.022), and EuroQol-5 Dimensions-Visual Analogue Scale (t=2.537, p=0.013). For comparing the two programs, we found a lack of evidence for the difference in any of the five commonly observed evaluations. In the secondary analysis, we observed a strong trend that the two programs were particularly effective for caregivers with negative pre-ratings. Conclusion:The two programs showed positive effects on the various evaluations, but some evaluations could not reach statistical significance. The programs appear to be particularly helpful for those who are in need before the program participation.

A two years old intact female Minature Schnauzer was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with an intermittent seizure by traffic accident. No specific finding was found by radiography and computer tomography (CT). Hematologic and blood chemical examination revealed that PCV (62.5%), BUN (72.6 mg/dl), CK (1769 U/l), ALT (169 U/l) and ALP (353 U/l) were increased. This dog was recovered by medical treatment.

A 10 years old, intact male, Maltese dog with clinical signs of labored respiration, exercise intolerance and increasing of coughing was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. Physical examination revealed tachycardia, panting and mild cyanosis. This case was diagnosed as mitral valve insufficiency by clinical signs, ascultation, blood chemistry, radiography and electrocardiography. This dog was treated with ACE inhibitor (enalapril), diuretics (furosemide) and bronchodilator (aminophylline) for 14 days. After treatment, clnical signs were disappeared and also this dog was needed to be continuous monitoring and sodium restricted diet.

Objective: This study examined the differences in the complications developed by mothers and newborns before and after childbirth according to the placental attachment site in patients with placenta previa. This will provide information to help prepare countermeasures to reduce complications in mothers with placenta previa in the future. Methods: For this retrospective cohort study, we examined the medical records of 383 pregnant women who delivered with a diagnosis of placenta previa at our Obstetrics and Gynecology Department from January 2013 to June 2022. Patients were into two groups: anterior placenta previa and posterior placenta previa groups. The basic characteristics of the pregnant women, including age at childbirth, gestational period, and weight during prepregnancy; and the occurrence of maternal complications, such as need for blood transfusion according to the location of placenta and amount of bleeding during surgery, were investigated. In addition, the correlation between history of uterine surgery or cesarean section and the placental position was statistically verified and derived according to the number of uterine surgeries. Results: Mothers in the anterior placenta previa group had higher rates of transfusion, bleeding, and uterine artery embolization during hospitalization (p-value<0.05). The prevalence of placental adhesion was higher in the anterior placenta previa group (p-value<0.05). Conversely, assisted reproductive surgery, history of uterine surgery, and frequency of previous uterine surgery did not affect the location of the placenta. Conclusion: The possibility of intraoperative bleeding during surgery increases in cases of anterior placenta previa, because the placenta is incised during surgery. The frequency of placental adhesions is also considered to be high. Therefore, to prevent and reduce the various risks that occur during childbirth, it is important to identify the exact location of the placenta and to prepare for bleeding before and after surgery. As such, it is necessary to take measures such as insertion of a uterine artery catheter before delivery, use ultrasound during surgery to determine the exact boundary of the placenta to perform appropriate incision, or aggressive uterine artery embolization after delivery.

A novel halophilic archaeon designated strain CBA1114T was isolated from solar salt in the Republic of Korea. Strain CBA1114T, which is a coccoid and stained Gram-negative, grew in the presence of 15-30% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 20%) and at 20-50°C (optimum, 40°C) and pH 7.0-9.0 (optimum, pH 8.0). Strain CBA1114T required Mg2+ for growth. Strain CBA1114T had three 16S rRNA genes, rrnA, rrnB and rrnC; similarities between the sequences were 99.7 and 99.9%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain CBA1114T showed a 91.7% similarity to that of Haloterrigena thermotolerans PR5T. In multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA), five housekeeping genes, atpB, EF-2, radA, rpoB’ and secY, were found to be closely related to those of the members of the genera Halorientalis (89.7% similarity of the atpB gene sequence), Halomicroarcula (91.9 %, EF-2), Haloterrigena (85.4 %, radA), Natronoarchaeum (89.2 %, rpoB’) and Natrinema (75.7 %, secY). A phylogenetic tree generated from the results of 16S rRNA gene and MLSA of the five housekeeping genes showed that strain CBA1114T was closely related to the species of the genus Halorientalis in the family Halobacteriaceae. The major polar lipids were identified as phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester and unidentified lipids. According to the results of phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic analyses, we designate strain CBA1114T as Halostella salina gen. nov., sp. nov., which represents a novel species of a novel genus within the family Halobacteriaceae.

Two novel halophilic archaeal strains, CBA1133T and CBA- 1134, were isolated from solar salt in South Korea. The 16S rRNA gene sequences of the isolates were identical to each other and were closely related to the genera Natronomonas (92.3–93.5%), Salinirubellus (92.2%), Halomarina (91.3– 92.0%), and Haloglomus (91.4%). The isolated strains were coccoid, Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, oxidase-positive, and catalase-negative. Growth occurred under temperatures of 25–50°C (optimum, 45°C), NaCl levels of 10–30% (optimum, 15%), pH levels of 6.0–8.5 (optimum, 7.0), and MgCl2 concentrations of 0–500 mM (optimum, 100 mM). Digital DNADNA hybridization values between the strains and related genera ranged from 18.3% to 22.7%. The major polar lipids of the strains were phosphatidyl glycerol, phosphatidyl glycerol phosphate methyl ester, and phosphatidyl glycerol sulfate. Genomic, phenotypic, physiological, and biochemical analyses of the isolates revealed that they represent a novel genus and species in the family Halobacteriaceae. The type strain is CBA1133T (= KACC 22148T = JCM 34265T), for which the name Sala cibi gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed.
