        Background : Arterial blood gas analysis is the most comon exam in intensive care unit. In this study, the frequency of blood gas analysis and the amount of blood loss after Blood Gas Analysis in Intensive Care Unit were observed. Methods : From November 1999 to February 2000, 115 patients admitted to intensive care unit at Soonchunhyang university Kumi hospital were studied prospectively for the frequency of blood gas analysis and the amount of blood loss after blood gas analysis in Intensive Care Unit. Results : The mean value of frequency of blood gas analysis was 6.41±6.49 and the mean value of amount of blood loss after blood gas analysis was 0.78ml. This was lower than that of other foreign reports. The patients with ventilator therapy above 24 hours showed higher frequency of blood gas analysis than that of not applied ventilator patients. Pulse oxymetry was applied to all patients and the frequency of blood gas analysis was decreased due to the use of strict pulse oxymetry. Conclusion : Doctors and nurses in intensive care unit keep in mind that adequate blood sampling is needed for the decrease of blood loss. Education and protocol for the decrease of blood loss after arterial blood gas analysis may be necessary.

        고등학생 생물 '물질대사' 단원에서 협동학습의 효과 : STAD 모형의 적용 Application of STAD Model

        문제 해결 능력의 신장은 과학 교육의 중요한 목표로 간주되어 왔고 현 사회의 교육이 담당해야할 중요한 과제이다. 그러나 오래 동안 과학 수업을 받은 후에도 학생들의 문제 해결 수준은 향상되지 않았고 이에 효과적인 교수방법으로 학생들의 능동적인 참여와 토론을 기반으로 긍정적 상호 의존성을 기르면서 문제 해결 능력의 향상을 가져올 수 있는 협동학습이 제안되었다. 그러나 고등학교 생물 분야에서는 타 과학 과목에 비해 협동학습을 적용한 충분한 연구가 수행되지 못하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 인문계 고등학교 자연계 생물Ⅱ의 'Ⅱ. 물질대사'단원에 대하여 협동학습을 실시한 수, 학업 성취도 및 과학 학습 태도에 대한 효과를 전통적 수업과 비교하여 분석하였다. 연구 대상은 서울시 소재 여자 고등학교 2학년 자연계 학생들 100명이며, 2개 학급 중 한 학급은 협동학습을 실시하고 나머지 한 학급은 전통적 수업을 하였다. 본 연구의 검사도구는 학업 성취도 검사지의 경우 단원의 내용 및 수업 목표를 근거로 객관식 24문항으로 구성되었고 과학 학습 태도 검사 도구는 김인희(1994) 연구에서 개발된 총 40개의 리커어트 척도 문항으로 구성되었다. 본 연구는 사전-사후 검사 통제 집단(pretest-posttest control group) 설계에 기초하여 협동학습의 모형 중 STAD모형을 적용하였고 5주 동안 총 13차시에 걸쳐 실시되었다. 협동학습은 학업성취도를 향상시키는데 전통적 수첩보다 더 효과적이지 않았다.(p> .05). 협동학습은 상위 및 중위 수준의 학생들에게 효과가 없었으나 하위수준의 학생들에게는 전통적 수업보다 더 효과적이었다(p< .05). 협동학습은 전통적 수업에 비해 학생들의 과학 학습 태도 변화에 있어서 더 효과적이었다(p< .05). 과학 학습 태도에서 4개의 하위 영역 중 '과학에 대한 태도', '과학의 사회적 의미', '과학 교과에 대한 태도'의 영역에서는 협동학습이 전통적 수업 보다 효과가 없었으나(p> .05) '과학 교과에 대한 태도' 영역에서는 협동학습이 효과적이었다(p <.05). 협동학습은 상위 및 중위 수준의 학생들의 과학 학습 태도를 변화시키는데 효과가 없었으나 하위 수준의 학생들에는 효과적이었다(p< .05). Problem solving ability, having been thought as one of the most important goals of science educations is also a primary task for the current education. Indeed, the students' problem solving ability has shown almost no actual progress, despite our long accumulated science education. Under this circumstances, cooperative learning, a way to grow students' positive inter-dependence and problem solving ability in the basis of their active participation and discussion, was proposed as an effective teaching method. But, results have not consistently shown the advantage of cooperative learning over traditional learning for promoting academic achievement in science. Studies have consistently shown greater effectiveness on affective aspects. But, relatively few have focused on biology in Korea. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of cooperative learning on the achievement and attitude consisted of 50 11th-grade female students in experimental group(cooperative learning-Student Team Achievement Division Model) and 50 students in control group(traditional learning). Students in both groups received identical content instruction on the unit Ⅱ. Mehtabolism'. These groups were treated for 13 hours during 5 weeks. Achievement data were collected using a 24-item multiple-choice test(content validity= .85). Science attitude was measured by and instrument which adapted by Kim In Hee(1994). The instrument(Cronbach α= .89) included 40 items in four subscales: attitude toward science, social meaning of science, attitude toward science class, and scientific attitude. An analysis of covariance(ANCOVA) was used as the data analysis procedure. For the achievement data, no significant difference exists between the cooperative and traditional groups (p> .05). But, cooperative learning was effective in low-ability students(p< .05). For the science learning attitude data, cooperative learning was more effective than the traditional one(p< .05). Students in the cooperative group achieved better than those in traditional one especially in the subscale of attitude toward science class. There was no meaningful difference of the two methods in both high and average ability students, while cooperative learning was more effective than the traditional one in low ability students(p< .05).

      • 동작 인식을 위한 영상 프레임 에지 추출

        기존의 산업현장에서 적용되고 있는 동작인식 시스템의 취약점, 문제점을 보 완하기 위하여 작업자의 동작을 고정된 CCTV 로 촬영한 영상을 인식의 대상으로 취함으로써 동작 정보를 얻기 위한 각종 장비들을 최소화 시켰다. 본 연구에서는 작업자의 일정한 동작을 보다 효율적으로 인식할 수 있는 시스템을 제안 한다. 먼저, 작업자의 동작을 촬영한 동영상에서 연속된 프레임간의 차를 기반으로, 고정된 배경과 움직이는 대상을 분리한다. 에지 검출을 이용하여 동작의 중심 위치를 추정하여 연속적으로 움직이는 동작을 인식할 수 있도록 하였다. 본 연구에서 설계한 동작 인식시스템은 작업자의 신체 부분별 특성을 추출하기 위한 계산작업에 소요되는 시간을 줄이기 위하여 프레임간의 차연산과 에지검출을 통한 동작인식을 실시하여 인식에 필요한 작업시간을 단축하여, 효율적이면서 비용이 저렴한 동작 인식시스템을 설계하였다.

      • Vascular endothelial growth factor-expressing neural stem cell for the treatment of neuropathic pain

        Previously, we determined that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) improves the survival of neural stem cells (NSCs) transplanted into an ischemic environment and effectively enhances angiogenesis. Here, we applied NSCs expressing VEGF (SV-VEGF-NSCs) to treat neuropathic pain. In this study, our goal was to verify the therapeutic effect of SV-VEGF-NSCs by transplanting the cells in a sciatic nerve injury model. We compared the amount of VEGF secreted from DsRed-NSCs (control) or SV-VEGF-NSCs and observed that SV-VEGF-NSCs have a much higher expression level of VEGF. We next investigated whether transplantation with SV-VEGF-NSCs aids functional recovery and pain reduction. We confirmed that transplantation with SV-VEGF-NSCs enhances functional recovery, pain reduction, and remyelination as well as the number of blood vessels compared with the control groups. Our results show that VEGF aids functional recovery and pain reduction in a sciatic nerve injury model.

      • DNA Damage Response-Related Proteins in Gastric Cancer: ATM, Chk2 and p53 Expression and Their Prognostic Value

        <P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Objectives:</I></B> The aims of this study were to assess expressions of the DNA damage response (DDR)-related proteins and to investigate their clinical significances in gastric carcinoma. <B><I>Methods:</I></B> Two independent cohorts, a training set (n = 524) and validation set (n = 394), of gastric cancer patients were enrolled. Ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM), checkpoint kinase 2 (Chk2), and p53 expressions were examined by immunohistochemistry using tissue microarray. <B><I>Results:</I></B> ATM loss, Chk2 loss, and p53 positivity were observed in 21.8, 14.1, and 36.1% of the training set, and in 17.3, 12.2, and 35.8% of the validation set, respectively. In the training set, the aberrant expressions of ATM, Chk2, or p53 were significantly associated with an advanced TNM stage and poor disease-specific survival. This association was verified in the validation set. Chk2 positivity and p53 negativity were significantly related to a prolonged disease-specific survival. Also, patients with nonaberrant expressional levels of all 3 DDR-related proteins had a more favorable outcome than others. Multivariate analyses showed that Chk2 loss and at least 1 aberrant DDR-related protein remained as independent prognostic factors of poor disease-specific survival. <B><I>Conclusions:</I></B> This study elucidated the prognostic implications of DDR-related proteins, and suggests that their aberrant expressions play critical roles in the development and progression of gastric cancer.</P><P>Copyright © 2013 S.       • Human Adipose Stem Cells Improve Mechanical Allodynia and Enhance Functional Recovery in a Rat Model of Neuropathic Pain

        <P>Stem cells are a promising source of tissue engineering due to their differentiation potential. Today, direct transplantation of stem cells for cell therapy is commonly performed. However, in cases of nerve injury, direct transplantation of cells could lead to secondary nerve damage. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into four groups: the phosphate-buffered saline epineural transplantation (PBS-ENT) group, the PBS intraneural transplantation (PBS-INT) group, the human adipose-derived stem cells epineural transplantation (hASCs-ENT) group, and human adipose-derived stem cells intraneural transplantation (hASCs-INT) group. Transplantation was conducted 1 week later after inflicting a crush injury with subsequent observation for 5 weeks. To evaluate pain, each group was examined with regard to paw withdrawal latency and evoked potentials. The sciatic functional index (SFI) was calculated to estimate functional recovery. The sciatic nerve was also examined histologically. The hASCs-ENT group showed a more rapid paw withdrawal threshold and SFI recovery than the other groups (p<0.05). The hASCs-ENT group also showed shorter initial latencies in both somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) and motor evoked potential (MEP) than the PBS-INT group (p<0.05). In addition, the N1 latency of the MEP and the N1 and P1 latencies of the SSEP were significantly shorter than those of the PBS-INT group (p<0.05). Histological examination revealed that the transplanted groups showed better neural recovery and remyelination than the groups injected with PBS. These results show that the transplantation of hASCs into the injured sciatic nerve improved mechanical allodynia and functional recovery as determined by the paw withdrawal test, SFI analysis, and electrophysiological studies. ENT is superior to INT in terms of invasiveness and better outcomes.</P>
