        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between teaching effectiveness and clinical practice satisfaction among nursing students. Method: The subjects of this study were 107 junior and senior nursing students in E university. Data were collected using self-reported questionnaire including general and practicum related characteristics, teaching effectiveness of clinical instructors and clinical practice satisfaction from September 12 to September 21, 2011. Collected data were analyzed by SPSS 19 program using t-test, ANOVA with Scheffe test, and Pearson`s correlation coefficients. Result: The mean score of teaching effectiveness was 3.35(±.51), and mean of clinical practice satisfaction was 3.19±.47. There were significant differences of teaching effectiveness of clinical instrutor by satisfaction of overall clinical practicum(F=8.332, p<.001), satisfaction of practice hour(F=3.230, p=.044), and satisfaction of major(F=9.883, p<.001). There were significant differences of clinical practice satisfaction by grade(t=2.274, p=.025), motive of choosing nursing science as a major(F=3.329, p=.007), satisfaction of overall clinical practicum(F=17.437, p<.001), satisfaction of practice hours(F=9.925, p<.001), and satisfaction of nursing major(F=12.748, p<.001). Relationship between teaching effectiveness of clinical instructor and clinical practice satisfaction showed positive correlation(r=.704, p<.001). Conclusion: In this study, teaching effectiveness of clinical instructor was related with clinical practice satisfaction. Therefore, we should consider improving teaching effectiveness of clinical instructor to improve clinical practice satisfaction.

        Spontaneous Regression of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in a Patient with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: A Case Report

        Treatment of lung cancer in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is difficult because the mortality rate after surgery or chemotherapy is high for these patients. Spontaneous regression of cancer is rare, especially in lung cancer. A 62-year-old man, previously diagnosed with IPF, presented with stage IIIC (T2N3M0) non-small cell lung cancer. About 4 months later, spontaneous regression of the primary tumor was observed without treatment. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of spontaneous regression of lung cancer in a patient with IPF.

        Microbacterium elymi sp. nov., Isolated from the Rhizospheric Soil of Elymus tsukushiensis, a Plant Native to the Dokdo Islands, Republic of Korea

        Microbacterium elymi KUDC0405T was isolated from the rhizosphere of Elymus tsukushiensis from the Dokdo Islands. The KUDC0405T strain was Gram-stain-positive, non-spore forming, non-motile, and facultatively anaerobic bacteria. Strain KUDC0405T was a rod-shaped bacterium with size dimensions of 0.3–0.4 × 0.7–0.8 μm. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, KUDC0405T was most closely related to Microbacterium bovistercoris NEAU-LLET (97.8%) and Microbacterium pseudoresistens CC-5209T (97.6%). The dDDH (digital DNA-DNA hybridization) values between KUDC0405T and M. bovistercoris NEAU-LLET and M. pseudoresistens CC-5209T were below 17.3% and 17.5%, respectively. The ANI (average nucleotide identity) values among strains KUDC0405T , M. bovistercoris NEAU-LLET , and M. pseudoresistens CC-5209T were 86.6% and 80.7%, respectively. The AAI (average amino acid identity) values were 64.66% and 64.97%, respectively, between KUDC0405T and its closest related type strains. The genome contained 3,596 CDCs, three rRNAs, 46 tRNAs, and three non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs). The genomic DNA GC content was 70.4%. The polar lipids included diphosphatydilglycerol, glycolipid, phosphatydilglycerol, and unknown phospholipid, and the major fatty acids were anteiso-C17:0 and iso-C16:0. Strain KUDC0405T contained MK-12 as the major menaquinone. Based on genotypic, phylogenetic, and phenotypic properties, strain KUDC0405T should be considered a novel species within the genus Microbacterium, for which we propose the name M. elymi sp. nov., and the type strain as KUDC0405T (=KCTC 49411T , =CGMCC1.18472T ).

        활성 백토를 이용한 수중의 인산성 인(PO4 3--P) 흡착에 관한 연구

        In this study, activated clay treated with H2SO4 (20% by weight) and heat at 90 o C for 8 h for acid white soil was used as an adsorbent for the removal of PO4 3 -P in water. Prior to the adsorption experiment, the characteristics of activated clay was examined by X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (XRF) and BET surface area analyser. The adsorption of PO4 3--P on activated clay was steeply increased within 0.25 h and reached equilibrium at 4 h. At 5 mg/L of low PO4 3--P concentration, roughly 98% of adsorption efficiency was accomplished by activated clay. The adsorption data of PO4 3--P were introduced to the adsorption isotherm and kinetic models. It was seen that both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms were applied well to describe the adsorption behavior of PO4 3--P on activated clay. For adsorption PO4 3--P on activated clay, the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm coefficients, KF and Q, were found to be 8.3 and 20.0 mg/g, respectively. The pseudo-second-order kinetics model was more suitable for adsorption of PO4 3--P in water/activated clay system owing to the higher correlation coefficient R2 and the more proximity value of the experimental value qe,exp and the calculated value qe,cal than the pseudo-first-order kinetics model. The results of study indicate that activated clay could be used as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of PO4 3 -P from water. 본 연구에서, 산성 백토를 황산(무게 비로 20%)와 90 o C의 온도로 8시간 동안 가열하여 처리 한 활성 백토를 수중의 인산성 인(PO4 3--P)의 제거를 위한 흡착제로서 사용하였다. 흡착 실험에 앞서 X-선 형광분광기와 표면적 분석기로 활성 백토의 특성을 조사하였다. 활성 백토에 의한 PO4 3--P 흡착은 0.25 시간 이전에 가파르게 증가하였고 4시간에 이르렀을 때 평형에 도달하였다. 5 mg/L의 낮은 PO4 3--P 농도에서, 대략 98%의 흡착효율이 활성 백토에 의해 성취되었다. PO4 3--P의 흡착 데이터를 흡착 등온선과 반응속도 모델에 도입하였다. 활성 백토에 의한 PO4 3--P 흡착거동은 Freundlich와 Langmuir 등온선 모두에 잘 적용되었다. 활성 백토에 의한 PO4 3--P 흡착에 관해서 Freundlich와 Langmuir의 등온선 계수인 KF와 Q는 각각 8.3과 20.0 mg/g이 되는 것으로밝혀졌다. 물과 활성 백토 계에서의 PO4 3--P 흡착은 더 높은 상관계수 R2 와 실험값 qe,exp과 계산값 qe,cal의 근접으로 인해서 유사일차 보다는 유사 이차 반응속도식에 적합하였다. 연구의 결과들은 활성 백토가 수중으로부터 인을 제거하는데 효율적인 흡착제로 사용될 수 있다는 것을 보였다.

        Analysis of Microbiological Contamination in Kimchi and Its Ingredients

        본 연구에서는 김치 제조시 철저한 재료 세척의 필요성을 확인하고, 더불어 비가열 식품인 김치의 위생 안전성 실태를 파악하여 효율적 미생물 저감화 방안을 마련하고자 국내에서 유통되는 김치 원·부재료 200건의 세척 전과 후의 비교분석과 시판 김치 100건에 대하여 미생물 분석을 실시하였다. 김치 원·부재료 및 완제품에 대하여 일반 세균수, 대장균 및 대장균군을 모니터링 하였으며, 병원성 미생물 9종(Bacillus cereus, Clostridium perfringens 정성·정 량, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, Campylobacter jejuni/coli, Yersinia enterocolitica, Salmonella spp., Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Listeria monocytogenes 정성)을 분석 하였다. 모니터링 결과, 김치 원· 부재료 및 완제품에서 일반세균은 1.4~9.0 log CFU/g 수준 으로 확인되었으며, 원·부재료 중 생강에서 8.8 log CFU/g, 완제품 중 총각김치에서 9.0 log CFU/g으로 일반세균이 가장 높게 나타났다. 대장균군은 0.5~7.3 log CFU/g으로 확 인되었으며, 생강에서 7.3 log CFU/g으로 가장 높게 나타 났고, 병원성 미생물 9종의 분석결과, Bacillus cereus를 제 외한 나머지 8종의 식중독균은 모든 시료에서 검출되지 않았다. 김치 제조 시 사용되는 김치 원·부재료들의 세척 공정 후 미생물 수는 일반세균수 0.2~3.2 log CFU/g, 대장 균군 0.3~2.7 log CFU/g, Bacillus cereus 1.0~3.9 log CFU/g 감소하였다. 따라서, 김치 원·부재료의 세척 공정으로 미생물 오염도를 감소 시켰으며, 이 결과를 통하여 김치 완 제품의 위생 및 저장성 증진에 기여 할 수 있을 것으로 확인되었다. Although Kimchi has health benefits, food poisoning associated with consumption of Kimchi has been frequently reported. Accordingly, microbiological properties of Kimchi (100 samples) and washing effects on microbial reduction against its ingredients (200 samples) were examined. Total aerobic bacteria, coliforms, Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, and Clostridium perfringens were quantified. In addition, B. cereus, Salmonella spp., Enterohemorrhagic E. coli, C. perfringens, Campylobacter jejuni/coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Listeria monocytogenes, and Yersinia enterocolitica were analysed qualitatively. Total aerobic bacteria count was approximately 1.4-9.0 log CFU/g, which were highest in ginger (8.8 log CFU/g), and Chonggak Kimchi (9.0 log CFU/g). The range of coliform counts detected in all raw materials was 0.5-7.3 log CFU/g and ginger showed the greatest number 7.3 log CFU/g among others. Contamination was decreased to 0.2-3.2, 0.3-2.7, and 1.0-3.9 log CFU/ g for total aerobic bacteria, coliforms, and B. cereus, respectively, after washing. Minimising microbial contamination in Kimchi ingredients is necessary to ensure the safety of Kimchi. These results indicate that washing is a useful method to reduce bacterial contamination in Kimchi.

      • Sarcopenia and osteopenia/osteoporosis in Korean men with COPD based on KNHANES 2008-2011

        Backgrounds: Sarcopenia and osteopenia/osteoporosis are known to be systemic features associated with COPD. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of sarcopenia and osteopenia/osteoporosis and the relationship between those in Korean men with COPD. Methods: Data on a total of 4586 male participants who underwent pulmonary function test and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry were extracted from KNHANES between 2008 and 2011. The associations between clinical factors including lung function, BMD and appendicular skeletal muscle index (ASMI: indicator for sarcopenia) were analyzed. Results: Prevalence of sarcopenia and osteopenia/osteoporosis was higher in the 864 males with COPD than in participants with normal lung function (sarcopenia: 4.7% vs 1.8%, osteopenia/osteoporosis: 50.2%/6.5% vs 35.5%/2.9%; all P < 0.001). The proportion of patients with sarcopenia or osteoporosis increased significantly as GOLD stage progressed from stage II to III/IV (sarcopenia: 4.5% vs 21.8%; P < 0.001, osteoporosis: 5.4% vs 16.4%; P=0.006), while the change of osteopenia was not significant between the stages. Sarcopenic COPD patients had osteopenia/osteoporosis more frequently than those without [37/41 (90.2%) vs 453/823 (55.0%); P < 0.001]. ASMI was one of the independent predictors for osteopenia/osteoporosis in patients with COPD (HR 0.449; 95% CI 0.329-0.612; P < 0.001). Conclusions: Sarcopenia and osteopenia/osteoporosis were more prevalent in Korean men with COPD than those with normal lung function, and sarcopenia was closely correlated with osteopenia/osteoporosis.

        간호대학생의 사전연명의료의향서에 대한 지식과 태도

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge and attitudes toward advance directives among nursing students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was used to gather self-reported data from 146 nursing students attending one university located in Wonju, Gangwon-do. As a measurement tool, knowledge of advance directives and the Korean version of attitudes toward advance directives were used. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and Person s correlation coefficients. Results: The knowledge of advance directives of nursing college students was different according to grade(F=3.19, p=.026) and the experience of ethics education(t=3.78, p<.001). The attitudes toward advance directives was different according to experience of ethics education(t=2.80, p=.006). There was a positive correlation between the knowledge and attitudes towards advance directives, and it was statistically significant(r=.34, p<.001). Conclusion: A systematic and diverse educational program is needed to improve the knowledge and attitudes towards advance directives among nursing students
