Adhesion molecules and proteinases play an important role in the invasion and metastasis of a malignant tumor. However, there have not been many studies on tongue squamous cell carcinoma at Saint Mary's Hospital and Kangnam Saint Mary's Hospital, the Catholic University of Korea, between 1994 and 2000, and had not received chemo-or radiotherapy. The expression of the adhesion molecules CD44H, proteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9, and TIMP-1, which controls MMP activity, was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. In addition their association with the tumor size, lymph node metastasis, clinical stage, and cell differentiation was evaluated. Increased MMP-2 expression was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis and clinical stage. However, it did not correlate with tumor size or cell differentiation. CD44H, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 expression were not significantly related to tumor size, lymph node metastasis, clincial stage and cell differentiation. The results suggest that MMP-2 is a possible immunohistochemical prognostic factor in tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Futher reasearches will be needed to investigate the additional tumor prognostic factors and their mechanisms.

The o/w microemulsions containing β-carotene were made from 3 or 5% w/w oil(soybean oil, cottonseed oil and isopropyl myristate) and 15, 20 or 25% w/w nonionic surfactant (Cremophor EL, Cremophor RH 40 and Brij 97/Pluronic F-68(2:1 w/w). They are characterized by particle size distribution, surface tension and viscosity. Also, stability study was done by antioxidant, long-term storage for 6 months.

An eleven year old castrated male Maltese was presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. In physical examination, approximately 0.5 cm round mass was observed on tail base. This small elevated mass has also shown alopecic and firm configuration. It was differentially diagnosed as sebaceous adenoma and hyperplasia by fine needle aspiration. After surgical removal, the sample was diagnosed as sebaceous hyperplasia by histopathological examination. It has not yet shown any signs of recurrence and prognosis has teen good.

The role of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in the decreased contractile response to phorbol ester in aortic smooth muscle strips from deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt hypertensive rats was examined. Norepinephrine (NE) evoked greater contractility in aortic strips from DOCA rats than in those of sham-operated rats. 12-Deoxyphorbol 13-isobutyrate (DPB) induced contraction in $Ca^{2+}-free$ medium, which was diminished in strips from DOCA rats compared to sham-operated rats. Vasoconstrictions induced by these stimulants were inhibited by SB203580 and PD098059, inhibitors of p38 MAPK and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) 1/2, respectively, in both strips. The phosphorylation of p38 MAPK and ERK1/2 induced by NE was greater in strips from DOCA rats compared to those from sham-operated rats, and this phosphorylation was inhibited by the kinase inhibitors. DPB increased the phosphorylation of p38 MAPK and ERK1/2 in strips from both animals, and the increment of p38 MAPK phosphorylation by the stimulant was diminished in strips from DOCA rats compared to sham-operated rats. These findings suggest that the $Ca^{2+}-independent$ contraction evoked by DPB results from the activation of MAPKs in rat aortic smooth muscle and that the attenuated contractility by DPB in DOCA rat appears to be associated with diminished p38 MAPK activity.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We cloned a plant gene, <I>Ntcyc07</I>, conferring arsenite tolerance by expressing a tobacco expression library in WT yeast (Y800). Expression of <I>Ntcyc07</I> increased the tolerance to As(III) and decreased its accumulation, suggesting that the enhanced As(III) tolerance resulted from a reduction of the intracellular arsenic level. Interestingly, expression of <I>Ntcyc07</I> increased the expression of the As(III) export carrier <I>ACR3</I>, but repressed that of As(III) uptake channel <I>FPS1</I>. Ntcyc07p interacted with Acr1p, which is the transcriptional activator of <I>ACR3</I>, but not with the <I>ACR3</I> promoter. Taken together, the data indicated that Ntcyc07p promoted As(III) tolerance by decreasing the intracellular level of As(III) via increasing the expression of <I>ACR3</I> and reducing that of <I>FPS1.</I> </P>

<P>Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent cells, which have the capability to differentiate into various mesenchymal tissues such as bone, cartilage, fat, tendon, muscle, and marrow stroma. However, they lose the capability of multi-lineage differentiation after several passages. It is known that basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) increases growth rate, differentiation potential, and morphological changes of MSCs in vitro. In this report, we have used 2-DE coupled to MS to identify differentially expressed proteins at the cell membrane level in MSCs growing in bFGF containing medium. The cell surface proteins isolated by the biotin–avidin affinity column were separated by 2-DE in triplicate experiments. A total of 15 differentially expressed proteins were identified by quadrupole-time of flight tandem MS. Nine of the proteins were upregulated and six proteins were downregulated in the MSCs cultured with bFGF containing medium. The expression level of three actin-related proteins, F-actin-capping protein subunit alpha-1, actin-related protein 2/3 complex subunit 2, and myosin regulatory light chain 2, was confirmed by Western blot analysis. The results indicate that the expression levels of F-actin-capping protein subunit alpha-1, actin-related protein 2/3 complex subunit 2, and myosin regulatory light chain 2 are important in bFGF-induced morphological change of MSCs.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Extensive efforts have been devoted to improving the resolution of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors in the detection of trace levels of biomolecules considered essential for the early diagnosis of disease. As part of these efforts, we previously developed a bimetallic waveguide-coupled surface plasmon resonance (Bi-WCSPR) sensor configuration designed to dramatically reduce the linewidth of the SPR curve while preserving a moderate local field decay length, thereby addressing the resolution issue. In this study, we systematically quantified the enhanced resolution in Bi-WCSPR sensors used to detect C-reactive protein (CRP), a widely accepted biomarker of inflammation in cardiovascular disease. Individual SPR sensorgrams were measured at several CRP concentrations in both the intensity and angular interrogation modes, confirming that the Bi-WCSPR configuration with a high Ag-to-Au ratio provided a figure-of-merit (FOM) that was 2.53 times higher than that of conventional Au sensors and a limit-of-detection (LOD) that was an order of magnitude lower than the cut-off level for CRP. It was found that when using the Bi-WCSPR configurations, the resolution enhancement in the intensity interrogation mode becomes more evident as the CRP concentrations is lowered to the cut-off level.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Enhanced resolution of Bi-WCSPR sensors for the detection of CRP is systematically demonstrated. </LI> <LI> SPR sensorgrams were measured at different CRP concentrations in both the intensity and angular interrogation modes. </LI> <LI> The sensing performance of Bi-WCSPR configurations was evaluated in terms of FOM and LOD. </LI> <LI> Bi-WCSPR2 chip exhibits a LOD three times lower than conventional Au chips, order of magnitude lower than the cut-off level for CRP. </LI> <LI> This Bi-WCSPR approach provides a very promising sensing platform for the label-free detection of biomolecules at low concentrations. </LI> </UL> </P>

팀을 기반으로 한 조직구조가 확산되면서,많은 조직구성원들이 팀원으로서의 역할을 수행하고 있다.이러한 상황은 조직구성원들에게 팀이라는 또 하나의 중요한 몰입대상을 제공했을 뿐만 아니라,갈등의 경험가능성 역시 증가시켰다.그러 나 팀 내 갈등과 팀몰입 사이의 관계를 다룬 연구는 아직까지 많지 않다.이에 본 연구는 과업갈등과 관계갈등이 팀몰입에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 팀효능감과 커뮤니케이션 만족도의 차별적인 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다.분석을 통해 확인된 결과는 다음과 같다.첫 째,과업갈등과 관계갈등은 팀몰입에 부정적인 영향을 미쳤다.둘 째,팀효능감은 과업갈등과 팀몰입 사이를 완전 매개하였다.셋 째,커뮤니케이션 만족도는 관계갈등과 팀몰입 사이를 완전 매개하였다. As team based organizational structure is commonly spreading, many employees perform as a team member. This situation increases not only team commitment but also conflict to team members. But there are not many researches about the relationship between conflict and team commitment. This research proves the mediation effect of team efficacy and communication satisfaction when conflict have effect on team commitment. We have the following results. First, task conflict and relationship conflict have negative effect on team commitment. Second, team efficacy mediates task conflict and team commitment. Third, communication satisfaction mediates relationship conflict and team commitment.
