        The purpose of this study is to investigate the expected effect of teaching-learning through the usage of computer, one of the methods to learn mathematics. Based on the survey on the effect from experimental class students who have studied using the GrafEq (Korean version), we conclude the following: Experimental class students have more positive attitude in learning mathematics compared to comparative class students. In addition, students who had lessons through the aid of computers responded that they preferred to continue such method of lesson in the future. However more researches on using computers teachers' efforts, and government supports will be needed.

        복하천의 미소환경과 어류군집

        2001년 10월부터 2002년 12월에까지 복하천의 미소서식지에 대한 어류군집을 조사하였다 조사 수역의 미소서식지는 다교란형 후배습지(Heavy disturbance swamp), 사행여울(Meander riffle), 거석소(Rock type pool), 하중도 사구(Low island sandhill), 천수만(Shallow bay), 샛강(Side stream), 소교란형 배후습지(Light disturbance swamp), 직선하도(Straight a river channel)등으로 구분되었다. 조사 기간 동안 채집된 어종은 총 6과 26종이었다. 이들 중 한반도고유 어종은 A. yamatsutae, S. gracilis majimae, S. japonicus coreanus, M. jeoni, M. yaluensis, O. interrupta 등 6종(종구성비 23.1%)이었다. 우점종은 Z. platypus와 A. yamatsutae이었으며, 전자는 다교란형 습지, 사행여울, 하중도 사구, 소교한형 배후습지, 직선하도에서 출현률이 가장 높았고, 후자는 거석소, 천수만, 샛강에서 높게 출현하였다. 미소서식지별 출연한 어종은 천수만(St. 5)에서 가장 많은 어종이 출현하였고, 직선하도(St. 8)에서 가장 빈약하였다. 미소서식지 중 다교란형 배후습지(St. 1), 천수만(St. 5), 소교란형 배후습지(St. 7)가 다른 미소서식지에 비해 종다양성이 높았으며, 하천에서 미소서식지가 파괴되면 여기에서 출현하는 어류의 우점도는 급격히 높아지고 종다양도, 균등도, 종풍부도 등은 급격히 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며 이는 서식처 보존의 중요성을 의미하는 것으로 판단되었다. The fish community and microhabitat in the Bockha Stream was investigated from October 2001 to December 2002. Microhabitat of this water area was divided into 8 sites according to their characters : heavy disturbance swamp, meander riffle, rock type pool, low island sandhill, shallow bay, side stream, light disturbance swamp, and straight river channel. During the surveyed period 26 species belonging to 6 families were collected. There were 6 Korean endemic species: Acheilognathus yamatsutae, Squalidus gracilis majimae, Squalidus japonicus coreanus, Microphysogobio tungtingensis, Microphysogobio yaluensis, and Odontobutis interrupta. Dominant species were Zacco platypus and A. yamatsutae. Species composition was more diverse in heavy disturbance swamp, shallow bay, and light disturbance swamp than in other microhabitats, among them the highest at shallow bay and the lowest at straight river channel.

      • 무심천의 저서성무척추동물 군집의 생태학적 연구

        The community structure of benthic macroinvertebrate of Musim stream was investigated from 1997 to 1998. The benthic macroinvertebrate composed of 57 species, 47 genera, 35 families, 15 orders, 7 classes in 5 phyla in the specimens of studied area. Among them, aquatic insects composed of 41 species, 23 families amount to 71.9% of all species. EPHEMEROPTERA, TRICHOPTERA and DIPTERA were dominant in upper region(St. 1∼3) and Limnodrilus socialis, Semisulcospira libertina, Physa acuta, Baetis thermicus, Ecdyonurus kibunensis and Chironomidae sp. 2 were dominant in lower region(St. 4∼7). According to the dominance of benthic marcroinvertbrate, upper region were determined as oligo-saprobic to β-mesosaprobic and lower region as α-mesosaprobic to poly-saprobic. Biological indices presented that the community structure of benthic macroinverterbrates is more stabilized, in upper region than in lower region.

        설편평세포암에서 CD44, MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1의 발현

        Adhesion molecules and proteinases play an important role in the invasion and metastasis of a malignant tumor. However, there have not been many studies on tongue squamous cell carcinoma at Saint Mary's Hospital and Kangnam Saint Mary's Hospital, the Catholic University of Korea, between 1994 and 2000, and had not received chemo-or radiotherapy. The expression of the adhesion molecules CD44H, proteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9, and TIMP-1, which controls MMP activity, was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. In addition their association with the tumor size, lymph node metastasis, clinical stage, and cell differentiation was evaluated. Increased MMP-2 expression was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis and clinical stage. However, it did not correlate with tumor size or cell differentiation. CD44H, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 expression were not significantly related to tumor size, lymph node metastasis, clincial stage and cell differentiation. The results suggest that MMP-2 is a possible immunohistochemical prognostic factor in tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Futher reasearches will be needed to investigate the additional tumor prognostic factors and their mechanisms.

        An eleven year old castrated male Maltese was presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. In physical examination, approximately 0.5 cm round mass was observed on tail base. This small elevated mass has also shown alopecic and firm configuration. It was differentially diagnosed as sebaceous adenoma and hyperplasia by fine needle aspiration. After surgical removal, the sample was diagnosed as sebaceous hyperplasia by histopathological examination. It has not yet shown any signs of recurrence and prognosis has teen good.

        The o/w microemulsions containing β-carotene were made from 3 or 5% w/w oil(soybean oil, cottonseed oil and isopropyl myristate) and 15, 20 or 25% w/w nonionic surfactant (Cremophor EL, Cremophor RH 40 and Brij 97/Pluronic F-68(2:1 w/w). They are characterized by particle size distribution, surface tension and viscosity. Also, stability study was done by antioxidant, long-term storage for 6 months.

        Original Article : Elevated red cell distribution width is associated with advanced fibrosis in NAFLD

        Background/Aims: The red-blood-cell distribution width (RDW) is a newly recognized risk marker in patients with cardiovascular disease, but its role in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has not been well defined. The aim of the present study was to determine the association between RDW values and the level of fibrosis in NAFLD according to BARD and FIB-4 scores. Methods: This study included 24,547 subjects who had been diagnosed with NAFLD based on abdominal ultrasonography and questionnaires about alcohol consumption. The degree of liver fibrosis was determined according to BARD and FIB-4 scores. The association between RDW values and the degree of fibrosis in NAFLD was analyzed retrospectively. Results: After adjusting for age, hemoglobin level, mean corpuscular volume, history of hypertension, history of diabetes, and high-sensitivity (-reactive protein, the RDW values were 12.61±0.41% (mean±SD), 12.70±0.70%, 12.77±0.62%, 12.87±0.82%, and 13.25±0.90% for those with BARD scores of 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively, and 12.71±0.72%, 12.79±0.66%, and 13.23±1.52% for those with FIB-4 scores of <1.30, 1.31-2.66, and ~2.67, respectively (P<0.05). The prevalence of advanced fibrosis (BARD score of 24 and FIB-4 score of ~1.3) increased with the RDW [BARD score: 51.1% in quartile 1 (Q1) vs. 63.6% in Q4; FIB-4 score: 6.9% in Q1 vs. 10.5% in Q4; P<O.OOl]. After adjustments, the odds ratio of having advanced fibrosis for those in Q4 compared to Q1 were 1.76 (95%(1=1.55-2.00, P<O.OOl) relative to BARD score and 1.69 (95%(1=1.52-1.98, P<O.OOl) relative to FIB-4 score. Conclusions: Elevated RDW is independently associated with advanced fibrosis in NAFLD. (Clin Mol Hepatol 2013;19:258-265)

        Electrochemical characteristics of nickel hydroxide/activated carbon nano composite for supercapacitors

        Nickel hydroxide/activated carbon nanocomposite electrode material was successfully synthesized by a precipitation method. The activated carbon was prepared from isotropic pitch with chemical and electrochemical activation. Structural and morphological characterizations were performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). The capacitive properties were evaluated by cyclic voltammerty (CV), charge/discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in 6M KOH aqueous electrolyte. The results showed that nano-sized nickel hydroxide was loaded on the surface of activated carbon. A specific capacitance of 277.8 Fg-1 was obtained at a constant current of 1 mAcm-2, indicating that the nickel hydroxide/activated carbon nanocomposite is a promising electrode material for supercapacitors.
