A simple and effective procedure for conversion of primary, secondary, allylic and benzylic alcohols into the corresponding iodides is described using $CeCl_3{\cdot}7H_2O/NaI\;over\;SiO_2$ under microwave irradiation. Benzylic alcohols are selectively converted in the presence of saturated alcohols into their corresponding benzylic iodides under these conditions.

The proposal of this study is a fast version of the conventional extreme learning machine (ELM), called pseudoinverse matrix decomposition based incremental ELM (PDI-ELM). One of the main problems in ELM is to determine the number of hidden nodes. In this study, the number of hidden nodes is automatically determined. The proposed model is an incremental version of ELM which adds neurons with the goal of minimization the error of the ELM network. To speed up the model the information of pseudoinverse from previous step is taken into account in the current iteration. To show the ability of the PDI-ELM, it is applied to few benchmark classification datasets in the University of California Irvine (UCI) repository. Compared to ELM learner and two other versions of incremental ELM, the proposed PDI-ELM is faster.

Studies on innovation point towards the need for both in-house research and development (R&D) capabilities along with collaborations with external organisations or linkages with other firms, universities and research institutes. The argument is that innovation is not just a firm specific factor but requires support from several other factors which in turn involves developing linkages with various actors/institutions as sources of resources and/or knowledge for innovation. This paper presents findings from an exploratory study about the Malaysian biofuel sector as an innovation system. Instead of using the neo-classical approach and proposing policy interventions based on traditional market failure rationale (Bergek et al., 2008a), the functional analysis of the technological innovation systems (TIS) approach is used to analyse the biofuel sector in Malaysia to help reveal the strengths and weaknesses in terms of its fulfillment of seven critical functions which are necessary for the generation and commercialization of a product. In addition an attempt is made to reveal the inducement and blocking mechanisms affecting the Malaysian biofuel TIS and the seeking of improved poor functionality. These functional aspects of the Malaysian biofuel sector are analysed in different phases of its development to gain an understanding of the different institutions and their functions at different phases of the development of the innovation system.
Risk Factors for Breast Cancer in Iranian Women: A Hospital-Based Case-Control Study in Tabriz, Iran

Purpose: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in womenworldwide and the leading cause of cancer death among women. In Asian countries such as Iran, the incidence of breast canceris increasing. The present study aimed to assess the riskfactors for breast cancer of women in Tabriz, Iran. Methods: Ahospital-based case-control study was undertaken to identifybreast cancer risk factors. The study consisted of 140 casesconfirmed via histopathological analysis and 280 group-matchedcontrols without any malignancy. Data were analyzed using descriptiveand inferential statistical methods via the SPSS softwareversion 18. Results: In a multivariate analysis, educationallevel (odds ratio [OR], 4.7; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.11–10.83), menopausal status (OR, 2.54; 95% CI, 1.41–4.59), ahigh-fat diet (OR, 2.76; 95% CI, 1.51–5.04), abortion (OR, 2.13;95% CI, 1.20–3.79), passive smoking (OR, 2.76; 95% CI, 1.51–5.04), oral contraceptive use (OR, 3.18; 95% CI, 1.80–5.59),stress (OR, 3.05; 95% CI, 1.74–5.36), and migration (OR, 3.09;95% CI, 1.39–6.90) were factors associated with a significantlyincreased risk of breast cancer. Breastfeeding (OR, 0.39; 95%CI, 0.16–0.97) and a diet containing sufficient fruit and vegetables(OR, 0.22; 95% CI, 0.12–0.39) had protective roles againstbreast cancer. Conclusion: The study revealed that the risk factorsfor breast cancer among women in the Tabriz area of Iranare related to the lifestyle. Therefore, the provision of educationto change unhealthy lifestyle choices and periodic check-ups forearly breast cancer detection are recommended.
Proposing a GPU based Modified Fuzzy Nearest Neighbor Rule for Traffic Sign Detection

The purpose of this study is introducing a graphical process unit (GPU) implementation of a modified fuzzy nearest neighbor rule useful for traffic sign detection (TSD). The new method tries to detect road signs using color information in order to locate regions of interest. The candidate regions of interest are obtained by color information. Afterward, candidate regions are used for making histogram of oriented gradient (HOG) feature. Finally, the features are fed into the GPU-based modified fuzzy nearest neighbor in order to detect traffic signs. The proposed rule modifies the way for fuzzification of query sample in terms of distances while the conventional fuzzy nearest neighbor (FNN) doesn’t care distance of local neighbors. The accuracy of the proposed method is compared with the state of the arts k-nearest neighbor (k-NN), FNN and support vector machine algorithms on the challenging German traffic sign detection benchmark (GTSDB) data set. Results indicate that the modified rule achieves good accuracy and is competitive compared to others.
Plasma Optimization in a Multicusp Ion Source by Using a Monte Carlo Simulation

A Monte Carlo simulation code has been developed to optimize the number of magnets confiningthe plasma in the H- multicusp ion source. This code improves the existing drawbacks in the particlestudio CST program and predicts the lifetime of primary electrons and the effects of collisions ofelectrons and hydrogen gas atoms. In this simulation are found 12 cusps to provide the highestplasma intensity in our configuration. Finally, our developed code is validated by simulating theexperimentally-tested KSTAR ion-source configuration and semi-empirical equation.
Investigation of zinc absorption in contaminated soil using tree species

Phytoremediation is a kind of technology based on the use of plants in removing contaminants, including heavy metals, which is cheap and environmentally compatible. In this research, the ability of Acer velutinum for phytoremediation of zinc element was reviewed. A. velutinum seedlings were prepared, zinc metal concentrations of 0, 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg of soil were added to the pot's soils after calculation and after two time periods of 45 days of the seedlings growth, roots and shoots were separated. The amount of zinc metal concentration was determined in the samples and the data were reviewed. The results showed that the amount of zinc concentration in all the organs was logical. The amount of zinc concentration in the second time period was more than the first time period. Based on the researches, this species can be appropriate for refining zinc metal-polluted soils.
