Availability of Total Knee Arthroplasty Implants for Metal Hypersensitivity Patients

Sanil Harji Ajwani, BSc (hons), MBChB, MRCS,Charalambos P. Charalambous, BSc, MBChB, MSc, MD, FRCS (Tr&Orth) 대한슬관절학회 2016 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.28 No.4

purpose: To provide information on the type of “hypersensitivity-friendly” components available for primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the current market. Materials and Methods: Implant manufactures were identified using the 2013 National Joint Registries of the United Kingdom and Sweden and contacted to obtain information about the products they offer for patients with metal hypersensitivity.results: Information on 23 TKA systems was provided by 13 implant manufacturers. Of these, 15 systems had options suitable for metal hypersensitivity patients. Two types of “hypersensitivity-friendly” components were identified: 10 implants were cobalt chrome prostheses with a “hypersensitivity-friendly” outer coating and 5 implants were made entirely from non-cobalt chrome alloys. conclusions: The results of this study suggest that several hypersensitivity TKA options exist, some of which provide the same designs and surgical techniques as the conventional implants. The information in this study can guide TKA surgeons in making informed choices about implants and identifying implants that could be examined in future controlled studies comparing outcomes between “hypersensitivity-friendly” and conventional implants.

Occupational Exposure to Metals in Shooting Ranges: A Biomonitoring Study

        Eline Vandebroek,Vincent Haufroid,Erik Smolders,Luc Hons,Benoit Nemery 한국산업안전보건공단 산업안전보건연구원 2019 Safety and health at work Vol.10 No.1

Background: Lead (Pb) exposure in shooting ranges has been reduced by various measures such as jacketed ammunition and lead-free primers. Nevertheless, this may lead to exposure to other metals, potentially resulting in adverse health effects. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 35 subjects from seven different shooting ranges were studied: four shooting instructors, 10 police officers, 15 Special Forces, and six maintenance staff members. Metals and metalloids were determined in blood and urine by inductively coupled plasmaemass spectrometry. Results: The concentrations of most elements did not differ significantly between groups or compared to reference values, except for Sb and Pt in urine and Pb in blood. Mean values for Sb were considerably higher in urine from the Special Forces (0.34 mg/L), the maintenance staff (0.13 mg/L), and shooting instructors (0.32 mg/L) compared to the police officers before shooting (0.06 mg/L) and a Belgian reference value (0.04 mg/L). For Pt, the Special Forces showed higher mean urinary concentrations (0.078 mg/L) compared to a Belgian reference value (<0.061 mg/L). Mean values for blood lead were markedly higher in the Special Forces (3.9 mg/dL), maintenance staff (5.7 mg/dL), and instructors (11.7 mg/dL) compared to police officers (1.4 mg/dL). One instructor exceeded the biological exposure index for blood Pb (38.8 mg/ dL). Conclusion: Since both Pb and Sb were found to be higher in shooting range employees, especially among frequent shooters, it is advisable to provide appropriate protective equipment, education, and medical follow-up for shooting range personnel in addition to careful choice of ammunition.

        李光洙 小說의 男主人公 硏究

愼憲縡 한양대학교 한국학연구소 1986 韓國學論集 Vol.9 No.-

This submission has been prepared after study of Lee, Kwang-Su's novels, is Which I tried to investigate some interior self-conflicts of the maleprotagonists, and to classify into several human types. In the 1910's, the male protagonists in the novel were filled with some self-conflicts in their conscience caused from two factors, the need of self-achievemtns and devotion for their father-land. The representative Characteristics in his novel is Lee, Hyoung-Sik, in<Moo-Jeong> (the Heartlessness) which is later classified to the patriot-type and the artist-type. In the 1920's, the heroes in the Lee, Kwang-Su's novel also possessed this sort of conscious self-coflicts caused from affection (情) and frate-rnities (義), which can be classified into four types, 가, 나, 다 and mixture of two other factors. 가) type used to over indulge in their own selfish-love and he was in different to the dark situaion of his father land occupied by the Japa-nese colonial invision, however, this male-protagonist came to regret his faults after some bitter experience by his lover's betrayal. The author, Lee, Kwang-Su, attempted to demonste the typical mail intelil-gences who used to fall into the mammonism and sexual epicurism prevailed afthe the 3.1 Indipendence Movement. 나) style was a married, middle-aged man who was at a leading level of the Korean society and was fall in love with a young lady. He tried to give up his passin to her, but after all he chose suicide to give up his ideal lover forever. 다) type is a revolutionist or patriot who sacrificed himself for the fatherland through which the author described his theory of preparative to the independence. The mixture type is a autobiographic hero, who combined two types Especially the author appealed his best ideal type through the hero An, Bin in <Sarang> <love>. Finally, we can find the heroes in Lee, Kwang-Su's novels have been working to moral-utopia, wandering ceselessly between affection (情) and fraternities(義).

        최헌종,강은구,이석우,홍원표 한국공작기계학회 2004 한국공작기계학회 춘계학술대회논문집 Vol.2004 No.-

The application of focused ion beam (FIB) technology in micro/nano machining has become increasingly popular. Its use in micro/nano machining has advantages over contemporary photolithography or other micro/nano machining technologies, such as small feature resolution, the ability to process without masks and being accommodating for a variety of materials and geometries. This paper presents that the recent development and our research goals in FIB nano machining technology are given. The emphasis will be on direct milling, or chemical vapor deposition techniques (CVD), and this can distinguish the FIB technology from the contemporary photolithography process and provide a vital alternative to it. After an introduction to the technology and its FIB principles, the recent developments in using milling or deposition techniques for making various high-quality devices and high-precision components at the micro/nano meter scale are examined and discussed. Finally, conclusions are presented to summarize the recent work and to suggest the areas for improving the FIB milling technology and for studying our future research.

      • 『유령선』의 탈식민주의적 읽기

        손홍일 한국현대영어영문학회 2002 현대영어영문학 Vol.46 No.3

The relationship between postcolonialism as a critical discourse and African American literary studies has been complicate and often attenuated. One of the reasons is that some aspects of the African Americans' historical experience do not correspond to those of other Third World peoples. Another reason is that postcolonial discourse as practiced by current well-known scholars shows a tendency of universalization, which refuses to recognize local differences. Nevertheless, there has been a long history of "internal colonialism" approach to the African American experience. Partly because of this, scholars now pay increasingly more attention to the potentiality of grafting postcolonialism to the study of African American literature. LeRoi Jones is generally regarded as the leading figure in the Black Arts Movement. The Movement can be seen as the peak of the "inner colonialism" approach to the African Americans' historical experience and cultural practices. The Movement was sparked by Jones' calling for Black Revolutionary Theater, which emphasized contribution to black liberation through functional and committed are. Jones' Dutchman was written and produced just before he started the crusade and, thus, warrants a postcolonial reading. The interaction between the white woman Lula and the black man Clay in Dutchman can be read as an enactment of the "imperial gaze" and accompanying "conversion" and "mimicry." The imperial gaze carries authority and power which make the colonial subject powerless. Conversion in colonial context refers to the process whereby the colonized appears to accept the imperial view, values, and cultural expectations. Homi Bhabha introduced the concept of mimicry to foreground the feeling of resistance concealed in conversion and its subversive potential. In their interactions, Lula assumes the invulnerable position of the imperial observer that affirms the binary structure of power, offering reward and punishment to Clay according to his response to her demands.
