        Tung Oil Anhydride Modified Hemp Fiber/Polypropylene Composites: The Improved Toughness, Thermal Stability and Rheological Property

        Natural fibers reinforced composites (NFCs) have renewable and low cost advantages. In this paper, the tung oilanhydride (TOA) modified polypropylene (PP)/hemp fiber composites have been prepared by a melt-blended process. Thereaction between the tung oil anhydride and the as-treated hemp fiber make the TOA molecules to accumulate on the surfaceof hemp fiber and to form a TOA layer on the surface of hemp fibers, which is confirmed by the FT-IR and SEM analyses. The TOA layer improves the compatibility between PP matrix and hemp fibers. The elongation at break (EB) and impactstrength of the PP/hemp fiber/TOA composites are twice more than the PP/hemp fiber composites. Thermal analysis showsthe Toneset and Tmax of the composites increasing that reflects the thermal stability of the composites improved. The crystallineproperty reveals that the Tc moves to high temperature with the TOA or hemp fiber added in the blends. The DMA andrheology properties analysis indicate that the TOA layer improved molecular mobility of the composites and show a shearthinning effect.

        MicroRNA-301b promotes cell proliferation and apoptosis resistance in triple-negative breast cancer by targeting CYLD

        Aberrant expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) plays important roles in carcinogenesis and tumor progression. However, the expression and biological role of miR-301b in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains unclear. Here we aimed to evaluate the roles and mechanisms of miR-301b in TNBC cells. miR-301b expression was assessed in TNBC specimens and cell lines by quantitative Real-Time PCR (qRT-PCR). TNBC cells were transfected with miR-301b mimics, inhibitors or Cylindromatosis (CYLD) small interfering RNA (siRNA) using Lipofectamine 2000. The functional roles of miR-301b were determined by cell proliferation, colony formation, and apoptosis assays. Western blots and qRT-PCR were used to measure the expression of mRNAs and proteins in the cells. We found that miR-301b was upregulated in TNBC specimens and cell lines. Overexpression of miR-301b promoted cell proliferation in TNBC cells, while inhibited the apoptosis induced by 5-FU. CYLD was downregulated by miR-301b at both mRNA and protein levels in TNBC cells. Dual-luciferase report assay confirmed that miR-301b downregulated CYLD by direct interaction with the 3’-untranslated region(3’-UTR) of CYLD mRNA. NF-κB activation was mechanistically associated with miR-301b-mediated downregulation of CYLD. However, inhibition of miR-301b reversed all the effects of miR-301b. In conclusion, miR-301b plays an oncogenic role in TNBC possibly by downregulating CYLD and subsequently activating NF-κB p65, and this may provide a novel therapeutic approach for TNBC.         Simultaneously photocatalytic removal of Cr(VI) and metronidazole by asynchronous cross-linked modified sodium alginate

        Conventional photocatalysts for environmental applications are mainly transitional metal compounds orprecious metal nanoparticles, which suffer from weak pollutant adsorption performance, thus limitedtheir applications for high concentrated wastewaters. In this study, asynchronous cross-linked triethylenetetraminemodified sodium alginate (CFTS) was used as photocatalyst for the simultaneouslycatalytic degradation of Cr(VI) and metronidazole (MNZ). Experimental results suggested that asynchronouscross-linking and triethylenetetramine modification have dramatically enhanced the chemicalstability as well as the adsorption and photocatalytic behavior of the material. The grafted amino functionalgroups and cross-linked Fe3+ ions can promote the rapid separation and transfer of electrons, thusreducing the recombination rate of photo-generated electron-hole pairs. The optimum removal rate of Cr(VI) has reached 99.5 % and MNZ can be completely removed within 20 and 30 min at pH 1.0 under UVlight irradiation, respectively. The removal mechanism of Cr(VI) by CFTS is the synergistic effect of electrostaticadsorption and photocatalytic reduction, while photocatalytic oxidation dominated the degradationprocess of MNZ. Moreover, the removal efficiency can be enhanced in the binary solution ofthese two pollutants due to the utilization of photo generated electron-hole pairs, which provides newpathways in the treatment of complicated pharmaceutical and domestic sewage wastewaters.

        Hydrogen sulfide ameliorates abdominal aorta coarctation-induced myocardial fibrosis by inhibiting pyroptosis through regulating eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α phosphorylation and activating PI3K/AKT1 pathway

        This study aimed to assess the effects of exogenous hydrogen sulfide (H<sub>2</sub>S) on abdominal aorta coarctation (AAC) induced myocardial fibrosis (MF) and autophagy in rats. Forty-four Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into control group, AAC group, AAC + H<sub>2</sub>S group, and H<sub>2</sub>S control group. After a model of rats with AAC was built surgically, AAC + H<sub>2</sub>S group and H<sub>2</sub>S group were injected intraperitoneally with H<sub>2</sub>S (100 µmol/kg) daily. The rats in the control group and the AAC group were injected with the same amount of PBS. We observed that H<sub>2</sub>S can improve left ventricular function and the deposition of myocardial collagen fibers, inhibit pyroptosis, down-regulate the expression of P-eif2α in myocardial tissue, and inhibit cell autophagy by activating the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT1 signaling pathway (p < 0.05). In addition, angiotensin II (1 µM) H9c2 cardiomyocytes were injured in vitro experiments, and it was also observed that pyroptosis was inhibited after H<sub>2</sub>S (400 µmol/kg) intervention, the expression of P-eif2α in cardiomyocytes was significantly down-regulated, and the PI3K/AKT1 signaling pathway was activated at the same time. Therefore, increasing the expression of P-eif2α reverses the activation of the PI3K/AKT1 signaling pathway by H<sub>2</sub>S. In conclusion, these findings suggest that exogenous H<sub>2</sub>S can ameliorate MF in rats with AAC by inhibiting pyroptosis, and the mechanism may be associated with inhibiting the phosphorylation of eif2α and activating the PI3K/AKT1 signaling pathway to inhibit excessive cell autophagy.

        MICROWAVE-ASSISTED HYDROTHERMAL SYNTHESIS AND LUMINESCENCE PROPERTIES OF Eu3+-DOPED CdTe QUANTUM DOTS

        The Eu3+-doped CdTe quantum dots (QDs) have been successfully synthesized in aqueous phase through microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique, high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), energy dispersive spectrum (EDS), X-ray photoclectron spectrum (XPS), UV-visble (UV-Vis) absorption spectrum and photoluminescence (PL). As the results show, the average sizes of the cubic phase CdTe and CdTe:1%Eu3+ are an average size of 3.7 nm and 3.5 nm, respectively. The average lattice parameter of CdTe:Eu3+ decreases with increasing Eu3+ ions concentration. Furthermore, compared to green emission of the host CdTe, the CdTe:1%Eu3+ presents additional orange fluorescence emission of Eu3+ ions. Recombination luminescence color is almost located in the yellow region of the CIE 1931, and the CIE 1931 coordinate is (0.448, 0.513). The effect of different Eu3+ doping concentration on the luminescence of CdTe:Eu3+ QDs was discussed in detail. It suggests that CdTe:Eu3+ QDs are potential phosphors for white light-emitting materials.
