Luminescence Properties on Zinc Gallate Affected by Mg and Rare - earth Elements

Zinc gallate (ZnGa₂O₄) phosphor shows promising low voltage properties. Phosphor powders of zinc gallate added with Mg and rare-earth elements were prepared with solid state-reaction method to improve blue luminescent properties. Tm (or Dy), Mg-added zinc gallate phosphor exhibited a strong blue band emission, peaking at about 420㎚, the maximum intensity at the concentration of 0.005 ㏖% Tm and 0.2 ㏖% Mg. It was possible to control luminescent characteristics of zinc gallate by adding various elements.
MAP Kinase-Mediated Negative Regulation of Symbiotic Nodule Formation in Medicago truncatula

Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascades play critical roles in various cellular events in plants, including stress responses, innate immunity, hormone signaling, and cell specificity. MAPK-mediated stress signaling is also known to negatively regulate nitrogen-fixing symbiotic interactions, but the molecular mechanism of the MAPK signaling cascades underlying the symbiotic nodule development remains largely unknown. We show that the MtMKK5-MtMPK3/6 signaling module negatively regulates the early symbiotic nodule formation, probably upstream of ERN1 (ERF Required for Nodulation 1) and NSP1 (Nod factor Signaling Pathway 1) in Medicago truncatula. The overexpression of MtMKK5 stimulated stress and defense signaling pathways but also reduced nodule formation in M. truncatula roots. Conversely, a MAPK specific inhibitor, U0126, enhanced nodule formation and the expression of an early nodulation marker gene, MtNIN. We found that MtMKK5 directly activates MtMPK3/6 by phosphorylating the TEY motif within the activation loop and that the MtMPK3/6 proteins physically interact with the early nodulation-related transcription factors ERN1 and NSP1. These data suggest that the stress signaling-mediated MtMKK5/MtMPK3/6 module suppresses symbiotic nodule development via the action of early nodulation transcription factors.

Lentinula edodes, the popular shiitake mushroom, is one of the most important cultivated edible mushrooms. It is used as a food and for medicinal purposes. Here, we present the 46.1 Mb draft genome of L. edodes, comprising 13,028 predicted gene models. The genome assembly consists of 31 scaffolds. Gene annotation provides key information about various signaling pathways and secondary metabolites. This genomic information should help establish the molecular genetic markers for MAS/MAB and increase our understanding of the genome structure and function.
The crosstalk mechanism of Brassinosteroids and ABA in early seedling development

Seed germination and the establishment of young seedlings are critical phases in the plant’s life cycle. To control these processes, plants have evolved diverse hormonal signaling networks in which brassinosteroids (BRs) attenuate abscisic acid (ABA) responses; however, the underlying regulatory mechanism remains elusive. Here, we reveal that epigenetic silencing of the ABA signaling regulator ABI3 via the BR-related transcription factor BES1 is essential for the inhibitory effect of BRs on ABA signaling during early seedling development. BR-activated BES1 forms a transcriptional repressor complex with TPL via its EAR motif that recruits the histone deacetylase HDA19. This facilitates the histone H3-mediated deacetylation of ABI3 chromatin, leading to the suppression of ABI3 and its downstream target ABI5, which results in reduced ABA sensitivity. We propose that the BR-activated BES1-TPL-HDA19 repressor complex controls epigenetic silencing of ABI3 and thereby suppresses the ABA response during early seedling development.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascades play critical roles in various cellular events including abiotic/biotic stress responses, innate immunity, hormone signaling and cell specificity in plants. The MAPK-mediated stress and ethylene signaling are recently known to be involved in nitogen-fixing symbiotic interactions; however, the biological role of MAPK for nodule development in legume plants is largely unknown. We here elucidated that MtMKK5-MtMPK3/6 cascade negatively regulate the nitrogen fixing nodule formation in Medicago truncatula. MtMKK5, an ortholog of SIMKK, overexpression significantly reduces the nodule formation in M. truncatula roots. MtMKK5 directly activates MtMPK3/6 by phosphorylation on the TEY motif within the activation loop in the cytoplasm, which might link to EFD as a negative regulator for nodule formation. EFD has a putative MAPK phosphorylation Thr residue and could be a target of the activated MtMPK3/6 in the nucleus. Consistently, a MAPK specific inhibitor U0126 enhances nodule formation and confers similar nodule phenotypes to the efd-1 mutant such as lower proliferation and differentiation to symbiotic tissues. Our works thus reveal a key negative signaling module mediated by MtMKK5-MtMPK3/6-EFD for symbiotic nitrogen fixing nodule organogenesis.
YBaCuO 계 초전도체 합성 및 특성에 미치는 분쇄효과

본 연구에서는 고상반응에 의한 YBa₂Cu₃O_7-y계 고온 초전 도체의 결정구조 및 초전도 특성에 미치는 원료분말의 분쇄효과를 명백히 할 목적으로 Y₂O₃, BaCO₃, CuO의 혼합물을 유성볼밀을 사용하여 건식혼합분쇄를 행하였다. 얻어진 분쇄산물의 비표면적은 60분 분쇄할때까지 증가하며, 그 후 분쇄시간이 증가함에 따라 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 소결체의 임계온도는 분쇄시간에 의존하지 않고, 약 90K로 일정한 값을 나타내었다. 한편, 소결체의 임계전류밀도는 분쇄시간에 크게 의존하였으며, 60분 분쇄한 소결체에서 최대치 150A/㎠를 나타내었다. The present work describes the effect of dry grinding of a mixture composed of Y₂O₃, BaCO₃ and CuO powders with a planetary ball mill before heat treatment on crystal structure and superconductivity in the YBa₂Cu₃O_7-y. The specific surface area of the ground product of mixture decreased with an increase in the grinding time, after showing an upward trend up to 60 minutes of grinding. The critical current density, which was influenced by the grinding time of mixture, indicates the maximum value of about 150 A/㎠ in the case of 60 minutes grinding, while the critical temperature, which were around 90K, for the sintered bodies were almost independent of the grinding time.
