The invasive alien leaf-footed bug Leptoglossus gonagra (Fabricius 1775), native to the Americas, is herein recorded from South Korea for the first time. Forty nymphs and adults were collected on 22 September 2016 from arable lands of two separate sites. These individuals were identified based on the analysis of morphological characters and cytochrome oxidase c subunit 1 sequences. A neighbor-joining tree indicated the existence of two clades: Group A from Brazil, and Group B from Asia and Oceania. Mean genetic distance between clades was 8.11%, range 7.60–8.57%. Within clades, mean genetic distance was 0.42% (0.17–0.83%) in Group A and, 0.45% (0.00–0.83%) in Group B. Colonies of 2nd-final instar nymphs and adults were found, on top of leaves, flowers, fruits, and between the stems of pumpkins (Cucurbita moschata). Nymphs and adults damaged host plants by sucking their leaves, stems, fruits, and buds. After the first discovery in 2016, we were unable to find the bugs again (in 2017–2019). Therefore, the invasion of this species seems to have occurred only temporarily, during the warm season. We suggest that the species may have failed to overwinter as it is normally distributed in regions warmer than Korea. Nevertheless, possible appearances of this species must be continuously monitored as it is a potential pest of various plants cultivated in South Korea.
Quality Characteristics of Pork Patty with Bilberry Powder

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) is a shrub originating from northern Europe, and belongs to the family Ericaceae, genus Vaccinium. It has been traditionally used as a medicinal plant in Europe, and is known to have benefits such as improvement of night vision and capillary fragility. It is also recognized as a rich source of antocyanin, and has antibacterial, anti inflammatory, and antimutagenic effects, as well as being able to contribute to prevention of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. To develop a pork patty with added benefits of bilberry, the antioxidant activity of freeze dried bilberry was first analyzed. Then the bilberry powder was incorporated into pork patty, and the physicochemical properties, textural properties and sensory properties of the resulting patty was analyzed. The optimal ratio of bilberry and soybean oil was also determined using the Response Surface Methodology. The results suggested that bilberry had better or similar antioxidant activity to blueberries or aronia berries. When applied to pork patties, the addition of bilberry powder had impact on the color, appearance, flavor, sweetness and sourness of the patty.

Alfalfa weevil (Hypera postica Gyllenhal) belongs to the family Curculionidae, Order Coleoptera and it is one of invasive alien species in Korea. In Korea environment, this species was found in 2000 first time through the Korean quarantine inspections. Although various researches have been studied in the Europe, US, China and Japan, only few research has been performed in Korea. In this study, the life cycle, morphology and the host plants of Alfalfa weevil were investigated in the natural environment. Nine plants of total 28 host plant species known as the host plants were characterized as their wild host plants in Korea (6 and 3 of 9 were naturalized and native plants in Korea, respectively). The geographical distribution was very wide from south (Jeju) to north (Yeoncheon) area of the peninsula and the favorite habitats were park, cultivated and grass land. This species has been found easily anywhere because it takes common leguminous plants such as clover, chinese milk vetch and alfalfa. These results suggest that Alfalfa Weevil can be one of the most-damaging insect pests of leguminous crops when it adapts to Korean climate.
Evaluation of authentication interworking methods among multiple WLAN service providers

<P>The interworking technologies to combine multiple WLANs into a single virtual system have not been studied extensively, particularly for legacy wireless networks. In this paper, we study how to provide the inter-domain authentication among multiple WLAN service providers with minimum overhead. We introduce five inter-domain authentication methods, referred to as Info-Sharing, AP-Seq, AP-Con, AS-Seq and AS-Con, which are designed in the form of an extension to the standard IEEE 802.1x and EAP protocols. In order to evaluate these methods, we compare their authentication time, implementation cost, confidentiality, flexibility and increment of messages. From the evaluation with analysis and experiments, we show that the AS-Con method can provide the authentication interworking function with minimal overhead on legacy network equipments. Also it is shown that, even though the authentication of AS-Con takes longer than the previous method, their difference is under one second and insensitive to users. 전 세계적으로 생물다양성 감소가 가속화 되고 있으며, 특히 외래생물의 유입은 생물다양성을 위협하는 가장 심각한 요인 중 하나이다. 우리나라 또한 외래생물의 유입이 증가하고 있는데, 환경부 기준 외래생물 은 2011년 1,109종에서 2013년 2,167종으로 두 배 가까이 증가되었다. 2,167종 중 곤충류는 136종으로 많은 외래곤충의 유입이 확인되었고, 이외에 공식적으로 집계되지 않은 종을 포함하면 그 수는 훨씬 늘어날 것이다. 2014년부터 국립생태원의 외래생물 안전관리 연구는 위해우려종 발굴, 외래생물 전국 서식실태조사, 외래생물 정밀조사, 생태계 위해성 평가, 생태계교란 생물 모니터링 등 크게 5가지로 구분된다. 위해우려종 발굴 및 지정건의를 통해 유입 전 단계부터 생태계교란 생물의 지정 건의 및 모니터링을 통해 유입 후 관리까지 5가지의 과제가 톱니바퀴처럼 물려가며 수행되고 있다. 국립생태원 외래곤충 분야의 주요 연구 성과는 260여종의 위해우려종 후보종 발굴, 5종의 외래생물 정밀조사, 8종의 생태계 위해성평가를 수행하였다. 그 중 4종을 생태계교란 생물로 지정 건의하여 1종(붉은불개미)이 생태계교란 생물로 지정되었다. 또한, 꽃매미를 포함한 2종의 생태계교란 생물을 모니터링 하고 있으며, 국내 유입될 경우 생물다양성에 미치는 영향을 널리 알리고자 ’위해우려 외래곤충 100종’ 책자를 발간하여 배포하기도 하였다.
