Wettability contrast on the surface of CuO nanostructures for highly efficient fog harvesting
He Wen-xin,Jin Lian-lian,Ma Xiu-jia,Li Xiao,Li Jia,Wang Xue-wei 한국물리학회 2023 Current Applied Physics Vol.53 No.-
Fog collection can provide a sustainable and efficient method for solving the shortage of water resources. In this article, CuO nanostructures were designed and synthesized on the Cu mesh by a one-step oxidation method and used to collect water from fog. Their morphology and surface wettability are characterized through scanning electron microscopy and dynamic contact angle measuring device, while the process of fog collection is investigated by a high-speed camera. The fog collection efficiency depends on the microstructure of the sample surface, which could be well controlled by adjusting the reaction temperature. Compared with CuO nanoneedles and CuO nanowire clusters, CuO nanosheets promote the rapid falling of liquid droplets, improving the fog harvesting efficiency, which can achieve 3168 mg/cm2 within 120 s. CuO nanosheets have ultra-low adhesion due to high roughness and high air restraint ability, accelerating the transport of water droplets and reducing the re-evaporation of water droplets.

Purpose: To investigate the prevalence of spina bifida occulta (SBO) and its relationship with the presence of overactive bladder (OAB) in middle-aged and elderly people in China. Methods: A cross-sectional community-based survey was carried out at 7 communities in Zhengzhou City, China from December 15, 2013 to June 10, 2014, where residents aged over 40 years were randomly selected to participate. All of the participants underwent lumbosacral radiographic analysis and relevant laboratory tests. A questionnaire including basic information, past medical history and present illness, and the OAB symptom score was filled out by all participants. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were used for data analysis with a P-value of <0.05 denoting statistical significance. Results: A total of 1,061 subjects were qualified for the final statistical analysis (58.8±11.7 years; male, 471 [44.4%]; female, 590 [55.6%]). The overall prevalence of SBO was 15.1% (160 of 1,061): 18.3% (86 of 471) in men and 12.5% (74 of 590) in women. Among these subjects, 13.7% (145 of 1,061) had OAB: 13.2% (62 of 471) in men and 14.1% (83 of 590) in women. The results of logistic regression showed that age, SBO, history of cerebral infarction (HCI), and constipation were risk factors for OAB (P<0.05), while sex, history of childhood enuresis (HCE), body mass index (BMI), and diabetes mellitus (DM) were not (P>0.05). In men, age, SBO, and constipation were risk factors for OAB (P<0.05), while HCE, BMI, DM, HCI, and benign prostate hyperplasia were not (P>0.05). In women, age, SBO, and HCI were risk factors for OAB (P<0.05), while HCE, BMI, DM, vaginal delivery, and constipation were not (P>0.05). Conclusions: The prevalence of SBO is high and it is related to OAB in middle-aged and elderly people in China.

Encarsia formosa Gahan is a solitary endoparasitoid that is commercially reared and released for augmentative biological control of whiteflies including Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius). Bemisia tabaci biotypes B and Q are two most invasive species that greatly reduce crop yields in China by feeding on plant sap and by transmitting Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV). The effects of TYLCV infection of tomato on E. formosa foraging on B. tabaci B and Q are unknown. In Y-tube olfactometer assays in the present study, E. formosa significantly preferred TYLCVinfected tomato plants over TYLCV-free plants. The wasp females also significantly preferred TYLCV-infected tomato plants infested with 3rd-instar nymphs of B. tabaci biotype Q over TYLCV-free plants with biotype Q nymphs. However, no significant differences were observed when B. tabaci biotype B was infested on tomato plants. The oviposition bioassays confirmed that TYLCV infection on tomato plants resulted in the recruitment of parasitoids. These results indicate that TYLCV-infection of tomato increase the foraging of E. formosa on B. tabaci, as differs on the B and Q biotypes.
Bridge modal identification based on frequency variation caused by a parked vehicle
Wen-Yu He,Wei-Xin Ren,Quan Wang,Zuo-Cai Wang 국제구조공학회 2022 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.84 No.3
Modal parameters are the main dynamic characteristics of bridge. This study aims to propose an innovative route to estimate the modal parameters for bridges by using a parked vehicle in which mode shapes with high accuracy and spatial resolution are identified by frequency measurement. Based on the theory of dynamic modification and modal identification, the mathematical formulation between the parked mass induced frequency variation and the modal parameters of a bridge is derived. Then this mathematical formulation is extended to a parked vehicle-bridge system. The arithmetic and processes for estimating the modal parameters based on the identified frequency variation of the vehicle-bridge systems when the vehicle locates at sequentially arranged positions are presented. Finally the proposed method is applied to several simulated bridges of different types. The results indicate that it can estimate the modal parameters with high accuracy and efficiency.
Thermal-structural coupling analysis of motor rotor under extreme variable working conditions
He, Lian-Ge,Wu, Xin-Yang,Shi, Wen-Jun,Zhang, Bin,Yuan, Zhou The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2022 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.22 No.10
Extreme variable working conditions were proposed, and the thermal-structural coupling analysis of the rotor was conducted with an electric drive system as the research object to make the structural strength of the rotor of a vehicle motor satisfy all operating conditions as much as possible. The overall temperature rise characteristics of the electric drive system were obtained through simulation, and the accuracy of simulation results was verified through testing. On the basis of material tests at different temperatures, the interference ft, and the rotating centrifugal force as loads, a comparative analysis of the strength of the rotor was conducted for variable working conditions and single working conditions. Results show that the stress value in the variable working condition is 74.9 MPa greater than that in the single working condition. This finding indicates that the analysis of rotor stresses under variable working conditions has more engineering importance.
Full-scale testing and modeling of the mechanical behavior of shield TBM tunnel joints
Wen-qi Ding,Yi-cheng Peng,Zhi-guo Yan,Bi-wei Shen,He-hua Zhu,Xin-xin Wei 국제구조공학회 2013 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.45 No.3
For shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) tunnel lining, the segment joint is the most critical component for determining the mechanical response of the complete lining ring. To investigate the mechanical behavior of the segment joint in a water conveyance tunnel, which is different from the vehicle tunnel because of the external loads and the high internal water pressure during the tunnel’s service life, full-scale joint tests were conducted. The main advantage of the joint tests over previous ones was the definiteness of the loads applied to the joints using a unique testing facility and the acquisition of the mechanical behavior of actual joints. Furthermore, based on the test results and the theoretical analysis, a mechanical model of segment joints has been proposed, which consists of all important influencing factors, including the elastic-plastic behavior of concrete, the pre-tightening force of the bolts and the deformations of all joint components, i.e., concrete blocks, bolts and cast iron panels. Finally, the proposed mechanical model of segment joints has been verified by the aforementioned full-scale joint tests.
Elimination of moving vehicles effects on modal identification of beam type bridges
Wen-Yu He,Xu-Cong Ding,Wei-Xin Ren,Yue-Ling Jing 국제구조공학회 2021 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.28 No.3
The modal parameters identified under operation conditions are normally employed for bridge damage detection. However, the moving vehicles are usually deemed as part of the operation conditions without considering their mass property. Thus, the identified modal parameters belong to the vehicle-bridge system rather than the bridge itself, which would affect the effectiveness of subsequent damage detection. In this paper, the effects of moving vehicles on the identified frequencies and mode shapes under operation conditions are investigated via finite element model. The necessary of considering the moving vehicle effects is demonstrated by comparing the modal parameters variations induced by the moving vehicle and bridge damage. Then the empirical formulas to eliminate the moving vehicle effects considering the vehicle mass, velocity, bridge span and relative position are established by using the orthogonal test and least square method. Finally, examples are conducted to verify of the effectiveness of the proposed empirical formulas.
