The 21st century is predicted to be the century of knowledge and information and culture. To create high value of cultural goods, in conjunction with Korean Classical Music infrastructures which Yeongdong County has, this proposal was planning to be contributed to the development of traditional culture and folklore. Yeongdong County revisited in the spirit world and build an understanding of Korea and Experience Music Village with easy access to the traditional culture and tourist resources and to foster the attractions.

An efficient synthetic route of novel 2′(α)-C-fluoro-2′(β)-C-methyl carbocyclic nucleoside analogues is described. The key fluorinated intermediate 7 was prepared from the epoxide intermediate 5 via selective ring-opening of epoxide. Coupling of 7 with nucleosidic bases under the Mitsunobu reactions followed by deprotection afforded the target carbocyclic nucleoside analogues. The synthesized compounds were evaluated as inhibitors of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) in Huh-7 cell line in vitro.
Role of Hydroxymethyl Group as a New Hydrophilic 4'-Pocket in 5'-Norcarbocyclic Nucleoside Analogues

Steric and electronic parameters of 4'-substituents play significant roles in steering the conformation of nucleoside analogues. In order to investigate the relationship of 4'-group with antiviral enhancement, novel 4'-hydroxymethyl-5'-norcarbocyclic adenosine phosphonic acid analogues were designed and synthesized from 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-ethanol (5) using reiterative Grignard addition and ring-closing metathesis (RCM) as key reactions. The synthesized adenosine phosphonic acids analogues (22) and (23) were subjected to antiviral screening against HIV-1. Compound (23) exhibited moderate anti-HIV activity (EC_50 = 8.61 μM) in the CEM cell line.

A novel 2',4'-dimethyl carbocyclic adenosine 5'-phosphonic acid analogue (20) was prepared using acyclic stereoselective route from commercially available 4-hydroxybutan-2-one (4). To improve cellular permeability and enhance the anti-HCV activity of this phosphonic acid, a 3',5'-cyclic SATE phosphonodiester nucleoside prodrug (22) was prepared. The synthesized phosphonic nucleoside analogues, (20) and (22), were assayed for their ability to inhibit HCV RNA replication in a subgenomic replicon Huh7 cell line.

<P>Sclerosing hemangioma (SH) is a rare benign pulmonary tumor derived from the primitive respiratory epithelium. However, the pathogenesis of SH has not yet been clear. Surfactant protein, thyroid transcription factor-1, epithelial membrane antigen, cytokeratin, and vimentin have been identified in SH by immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. To identify proteins specifically regulated in SH, 2-D PAGE was performed using SH and paired normal tissues. Ten selected differentially expressed protein spots were identified by PMF, MALDI-TOF-MS, and database searching. Apolipoprotein A-1, antizyme inhibitor, heat shock 27-kDa protein 1, and antioxidant proteins, such as peroxiredoxin II (Prx II) and GST, were identified among the down-regulated proteins in SH. Western blot and immunohistochemistry confirmed reduced expressions of Prx II and GST in SH versus normal lung tissue. This study is the first report on the reduced expressions of Prx II and GST in SH.</P>
Synthesis and Some Properties of 4'-Phenyl-5'-Norcarbocyclic Adenosine Phosphonic Acid Analogues

The phenyl substituted cyclopentenols 15a and 15b as key intermediates were successfully constructed via reiterative carbonyl addition of Grignard reagents and ring-closing metathesis of corresponding divinyl 14. The synthesized nucleoside phosphonic acids analogues 19, 20, 21, and 23 were subjected to antiviral screening against HIV-1.

STUDY DESIGN.: An in vitro neural hypoxia model and rat spinal cord injury (SCI) model were used to assess the regulation of therapeutic vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene expression in mouse neural stem cells (mNSCs) by the EPO (erythropoietin) enhancer or RTP801 promoter. OBJECTIVE.: To increase VEGF gene expression in mNSCs under hypoxic conditions in SCI lesions but avoid unwanted overexpression of VEGF in normal sites, we developed a hypoxia-inducible gene expression system consisting of the EPO enhancer and RTP801 promoter fused to VEGF or the luciferase gene, then transfected into mNSCs. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA.: On the basis of the ischemic response in the injured area, poor cell survival at the transplantation site is a consistent problem with NSC transplantation after SCI. Although VEGF directly protects neurons and enhances neurite outgrowth, uncontrolled overexpression of VEGF in uninjured tissue may cause serious adverse effects. To effectively improve NSC survival in ischemic sites after transplantation, we evaluated mNSCs modified by a hypoxia-inducible VEGF gene expression system in an SCI model. METHODS.: Hypoxia-inducible luciferase or VEGF plasmids were constructed using the EPO enhancer or RTP801 promoter. The effect of these systems on targeted gene expression and cell viability was evaluated in mNSCs in both hypoxic in vitro injury and a rat SCI model in vivo. RESULTS.: The gene expression system containing the EPO enhancer or RTP801 promoter significantly increased the expression of the luciferase reporter gene and therapeutic VEGF gene under hypoxic conditions. The Epo-SV-VEGF plasmid transfection group had significantly fewer apoptotic cells in vitro. This system also augmented cell viability in the in vivo SCI model. CONCLUSION.: These results strongly suggest the potential utility of mNSCs modified by a hypoxia-inducible VEGF gene expression system in the development of effective stem cell transplantation protocols in SCI.
Mite and Booklouse Fauna From Vacuumed Dust Samples From Beijing

A significant-source of allergens come from house dust that contain particles derived from arthropods, molds, and pet dander. This study evaluatedmite and booklouse fauna from vacuumed dust samples in Beijing China (a temperate zone). Our survey was carried out in Beijing in the homes ofmite allergic patients who visited our Allergy Department. In total, 38 homes were selected for the collection of dust samples by vacuuming, fromDecember 2008 to January 2010. The flotation method was used to isolate mites from house dust. Permanent slides were prepared for mite specimensand mites were identified and counted under a microscope. In total, 1,798 separate mite and insect specimens were found in 345 dust samplestaken from 38 homes. A total of 95 individual Dermatophagoides (D) siboney were detected in 35 dust samples from 19 homes (representing5.3% of all mite and insect species found in house dust); in addition, this mite was found to co-exist with D. farinae (Hughes, 1961) in 33 dust samples. Our results demonstrated the presence D. siboney that co-existed with D. farinae in house dust in Beijing China (a temperate zone).
