In this paper, applications of adaptive fuzzy controller to position control of flexible beam are considered. When a flexible beam is rotated by a motor through the fixed end, transverse vibration may occur. The architecture and learning underlying adaptive networks based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is presented, which is a fuzzy inference system implemented in the framework of adaptive networks. By using a hybrid learning procedure, the proposed ANFIS can construct an input-output mapping based on both human knowledge and stipulated input-output data pairs. Therefor, a dynamic model for a flexible beam is derived, and then a comparative analysis was made with before learning and after learning adaptive fuzzy controller through an simulation. The results are presented to illustrate the advantages and improved performance of the proposed position control cver the after learning adaptive fuzzy controller.
Power Quality Compensator for Future Home Using Low-cost Active Filter

This paper presents a small low cost home power quality compensator for eliminating the function of harmonics, and for an energy saving according to conditions of the loads. This prototype compensator has a small size, low cost, and high quality. As the demand for semiconductor devices and the power electronics increase, these devices generate the severe problems for the surrounding environment and cause electric loss and noise. Under these circumstances, there has been an increase in the accordance with many types of electronic devices greatly on demand, and there need to attach a device for power qualities in order to conform to the load sensitivity. In order to cope with these situations, small compensating devices have been developed, which are attached to the household devices individually, i.e. a washing machine and an electric refrigerator, but none have been developed to protect all household goods at one time. Currently, at home and abroad, the devices that have been developed to improve the small ho power quality with a simple type have only a monitoring function. The aim of this study was to improve the power quality by eliminating the harmonics using an active power compensator, which can be fitted as a power quality compensator in the home, and be used as an end device itself.

This study was attempted to cumpare the effects on blood glucoge of 5% Dextrose in Water (D_5W) and Hartmann's solution infused during halothane anesthesia.20 female patients in the state of A.S.A. classification I were chosen and divided into 2 groups, i.e. first group D_5W. the second group Hartmann's solution. Blood samples were collected on the operating table prior to starting I.V. infusion, after 1/2 hour, 1 hour and 11/2hour from the time I.V. infusion started. Intravenous fluid was administered at 10 ml/kg/hr. Changes of blood glucose levels were as follows. In the group of D_5W, the values of bleed glucose were 83.4±13.5 mg% at N.P.O., 198.4±33.6 mg% at 1/2 hour, 245.5±55.6mg% at 1 hour, and 259.5±40.1 mg% at 1/2 hours. In the group of Hartmann's solution, the values of blood glucose were 64.9±9,5 mg% at N.P.O., 93.3±21.9mg% at 1/2 hour. 99.0±15.6mg% at 1 hour, and 105.6±24.2mg% at 1 1/2hours.

<P>Human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC)-derived exosomes have been spotlighted as a promising therapeutic agent for cell-free regenerative medicine. However, poor organ-targeting ability and insufficient therapeutic efficacy of systemically injected hMSC-exosomes were identified as critical limitations for their further applications. Therefore, in this study we fabricated iron oxide nanoparticle (IONP)-incorporated exosome-mimetic nanovesicles (NV-IONP) from IONP-treated hMSCs and evaluated their therapeutic efficacy in a clinically relevant model for spinal cord injury. Compared to exosome-mimetic nanovesicles (NV) prepared from untreated hMSCs, NV-IONP not only contained IONPs which act as a magnet-guided navigation tool but also carried greater amounts of therapeutic growth factors that can be delivered to the target cells. The increased amounts of therapeutic growth factors inside NV-IONP were attributed to IONPs that are slowly ionized to iron ions which activate the JNK and c-Jun signaling cascades in hMSCs. In vivo systemic injection of NV-IONP with magnetic guidance significantly increased the amount of NV-IONP accumulating in the injured spinal cord. Accumulated NV-IONP enhanced blood vessel formation, attenuated inflammation and apoptosis in the injured spinal cord, and consequently improved spinal cord function. Taken together, these findings highlight the development of therapeutic efficacy-potentiated extracellular nanovesicles and demonstrate their feasibility for repairing injured spinal cord.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
관상동맥 우회술 환자에서 저용량 도부타민 투여시 경식도 심초음파에 의한 예비 심근수축력의 평가

Background : Intraoperative low dose dobutamine test with transesophageal echocardiography may offer a simple, cost effective and widely available mean of detecting contractile reserve in coronary artery disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of low dose dobutamine infusion on ventricular function in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft and to predict the post-pump response of dysfunctional myocardial segments to surgical revascularization. Methods : This study was performed in 23 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft. After transesophageal echocardiographic images of transgastric left ventricular short axis view at mid-papillary muscles level were obtained, the percentage of systolic wall thickening(PSWT) was evaluated. The ejection fraction by modified Simpson's method and hemodymic changes were measured simultaneously. Results : The clinical accuracy of intraoperative low dose dobutamine test for PSWT was followed; Sensitivity-76%, specificity-94.7%, positive predictive value-95%, negative predictive value-75% and overall accuracy-84.1%. Ejection fraction increased from 49.0 13.1% to 56.3 11.5%(dobutamine infusion) and 59.5 12.1%(post-pump) significantly(P$lt;0.05). During dobutamine infusion and post-pump, cardiac index increased significantly(P$lt;0.01). Conclusions : Intraoperative low dose dobutamine by transesophageal echocardiography is a potentially useful test for prediction of the post pump response of regional systolic function and global ventricular function to coronary revascularization. Respiratory effects in full time welders include bronchitis, airway irritation, lung function changes, and lung fibrosis. Welder's pneumoconiosis has been generally determined to be benign<br/> and not associated with respiratory symptoms based on the absence of pulmonary function abnormalities in welders with marked radiographic abnormalities. Accordingly, to investigate pulmonary function changes during 60 days induced by welding-fume exposure, male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to manual metal arc-stainless steel (MMA-SS) welding fumes with concentrations of 64.8+0.9 mg/㎥ (low dose) and 107.8±2.6 mg/m3 (high dose) total suspended particulates for 2 hr/day, 5 days/week in an inhalation chamber for 60 days. Pulmonary function was measured every week with whole body plethysmograph compensated (WBP Comp, SFT38116, Buxco Electronics, Sharon, CT). The rats exposed to the high dose of welding fumes exhibited statistically significant (p<0.05-0.01) body weight decrease as compared to the control whereas cell number increase of the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) (total cell, macrophage, polymorphonuclear cell and lymphocyte) during the 60 days exposure period. And only tidal volume was significantly decreased in dosedependantly during 60 days of MMA-SS welding fume exposure. This pulmonary function change with inflammatory cell recruitment confirms the lung injury caused by the MMA-SS welding fume exposure.

<P>Cancer immunotherapy modulates immune cells to induce antitumor immune responses. Tumors employ immune checkpoints to evade immune cell attacks. Immune checkpoint inhibitors such as anti-PD-L1 antibody (aPD-L1), which is being used clinically for cancer treatments, can block immune checkpoints so that the immune system can attack tumors. However, immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy may be hampered by polarization of macrophages within the tumor microenvironment (TME) into M2 tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), which suppress antitumor immune responses and promote tumor growth by releasing anti-inflammatory cytokines and angiogenic factors. In this study, we used exosome-mimetic nanovesicles derived from M1 macrophages (M1NVs) to repolarize M2 TAMs to M1 macrophages that release pro-inflammatory cytokines and induce antitumor immune responses and investigated whether the macrophage repolarization can potentiate the anticancer efficacy of aPD-L1. M1NV treatment induced successful polarization of M2 macrophages to M1 macrophages <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I>. Intravenous injection of M1NVs into tumor-bearing mice suppressed tumor growth. Importantly, injection of a combination of M1NVs and aPD-L1 further reduced the tumor size, compared to the injection of either M1NVs or aPD-L1 alone. Thus, our study indicates that M1NV injection can repolarize M2 TAMs to M1 macrophages and potentiate antitumor efficacy of the checkpoint inhibitor therapy.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Studies on leucocytozoonosis of chickens in Honam districts

1992-1993년 호남지방의 4개 양계장에서 처음으로 닭의 Leucocytozoon caulleryi 자연감염증을 보이는 87수를 검색하였는데, 임상증세와 혈액내 merozoite 및 gametocyte 검출 그리고 내장기관으로부터 schizont의 발견으로 본 질병을 확증할 수 있었다. 본 감염증은 일년 중 6월 하순부터 9월 중순까지에 발견되었으며, 자연감염된 혈액(merozoite포함)을 미감염된 닭에 접종하여 인공감염상을 볼 수 있었다. 자연감염후 회복된 닭중 1수는 12월에 간에서, 또 다른 1수는 다음해 2월에 심장 근육에서 schizont가 발견되어 본 감염증의 재발이나 동절기를 지나는 장기간 감염 가능성을 보여 주었다. 본 원충의 gametocyte 추출물에서 특이 항원 항체 반응을 보이는 polypeptide는 50.1kD이었다. In the year 1992/93 leucocytozoonosis could be first diagnbosed in 87 chickens of 4 chicken farms in Honam districts. The diagnosis was confirmed by detection of the blood merozoites or gametocytes and histological finding of the schizonts from various organs with some clinical signs. Cases of leucocytozoonosis only occurred from the end of June to the middle of September. Artificial infection could be observed by means of inoculation of infected blood merozoites. The schizonts were found in the liver and cardiac muscle of the different chickens recovered from the natural infection, respectively, in September and next February. Thus the relapse or long-term infection in cold seasons might be possible. The unique gametocyte antigen polypeptide was 50.1 kD.
