Package appearance matter: Facial expression and Galvanic Skin Response analysis approach
Nicolas Hamelin,Suchi Agrawal,Nitin Patwa,Lars-Erik Casper Ferm,Park Thaichon 한국마케팅과학회 2021 마케팅과학연구 Vol.31 No.4
This study reveals the importance of package design and brand in the choice of over-the-counter (OTC) analgesic. Various packages for analgesic products were tested on 40 respondents and autonomic body reactions were measured. The product tested was private Australian brands of Paracetamol from Coles and Woolworth, Priceline, a chemist brand, Herron a local brand and finally the well-known global brand Panadol. Eye tracking, facial expression analysis as well as Galvanic Skin response were found in strong correlation with respondent preference and purchasing intention. A heat map analysis for each package reveals that for most of the products the focus was not on the price. Time to First Fixation (TTFF) revealed that the eye fixation on price came last with the time spent looking at the price was low as compared to the time spent on the other areas of the packaging and this for both males and females. For most of the drugs, the focus (time spent) is majorly on the brand name and the benefits and tablet usage information.

Milferstedt, Kim,Hamelin, Jé,rô,me,Park, Chul,Jung, Jinyoung,Hwang, Yuhoon,Cho, Si-Kyung,Jung, Kyung-Won,Kim, Dong-Hoon Elsevier 2017 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HYDROGEN ENERGY - Vol.42 No.45

Abstract

The efficiency of wastewater treatment with renewable energy generation has been greatly improved with the development of biogranules. In this review article, various types of biogranules (methanogenic, hydrogenic, aerobic, anaerobic ammonium oxidation, and oxygenic photogranules) applied in environmental engineering are introduced along with their history, theories on how they are formed, physico-chemical and morphological characteristics, and the effects on enhanced performance. Although each individual granule has its own characteristics, there might be something in common that the formation is related with high production of extracellular polymeric substances, and they all have high hydrophobicity, settling velocity, and density. To our knowledge, this is the first review article dealing with various types of biogranules. The information given herein will provide a chance for a deep understanding on biogranules in both fundamental research and engineering point of views.

Highlights

CH4- and H2-producing, aerobic, anammox, and oxygenic photogranules are introduced.

History, formation theory, and characteristics of each granule was explained.

Compared to flocculated sludge, granule system showed much higher performance.

The future research area for individual granule was addressed.

Entomopathogenic Bacillus sphaericus(BS) strains produce a 43kD entomocidal protein, converted through activation to a 40kD toxin. Two-dimensional electrophoresis of these proteins from 4 entomopathogenic BS strains reveals constance in pI and molecular weight differences between activated and non-activated toxin. This suggests a common activation mechanism.
Crack-bridging force transfer of composite strengthening: a dynamic point of view
M. Massenzio,P. Hamelin,P.A. Ovigne,E. Jacquelin 국제구조공학회 2003 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.3 No.1
This study focuses on the influence of a composite external strengthening on the natural frequencies of a steel beam with open cracks. In a first step, the leading parameters associated with the effect of the composite strengthening are experimentally identified. An analytical model is developed in order to quantify the importance of the force transfer within the resin interface. In a second step, the analytical model of a cracked beam with composite external strengthening is compared to experiments.
Optical scattering in glass ceramics
A. Edgar,G.V.M. Williams,J. Hamelin 한국물리학회 2006 Current Applied Physics Vol.6 No.3
We analyse measurements of the optical extinction coefficient for fluorozirconate glasses containing a volume fraction of 0.2 of barium chloride nano-particles. We find that the glass ceramics are about a factor of six more transparent than predicted by Rayleigh scattering theory, based on estimates of particle sizes from X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy measurements. A numerical simulation of scattering using the discrete-dipole approximation has been made in order to investigate whether this particular discrepancy, and the ‘‘ultra-transparency’’ observed in other glass ceramics in general, can be explained by particle proximity and interaction effects as has been proposed in the literature. The simulated scattering system behaves essentially as a collection of independent scatterers up to a volume fraction of at least 25%, and so these effects are not responsible for the high transparency in this system.
Analysis of the in-plane shear behaviour of FRP reinforced hollow brick masonry walls
Gabor, A.,Ferrier, E.,Jacquelin, E.,Hamelin, P. Techno-Press 2005 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.19 No.3
This paper presents an experimental as well as a numerical analysis of the in-plane shear behaviour of hollow, $870{\times}840{\times}100mm$ masonry walls, externally strengthened with FRP composites. The experimental approach is devoted to the evaluation of the effectiveness of different composite strengthening configurations and the methodology consists in the diagonal compression of masonry walls. The numerical study assesses the stress and strain state distribution in the unreinforced and strengthened panels using a commercial finite element code. The effect of FRP reinforcement on the masonry behaviour and the capability of modelling to forecast a representative failure mode of the unreinforced and reinforced masonry walls is investigated.
Ovigne, P.A.,Massenzio, M.,Jacquelin, E.,Hamelin, P. Techno-Press 2003 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.15 No.4
The aim of this study is to develop an analytical model of a beam with open cracks and external strengthening which is able to predict its modal scheme components (natural frequencies and mode shapes). The model is valid as far as the excitation level is low enough not to activate non linear effects. The application field of the model are either the prediction of the efficiency of the reinforcement or the non destructive assessment of the structural properties. The degrees of freedom associated to the fault lips must be taken into account in order to introduce the effect of the external strengthening. In a first step, an analytical formulation of a beam with thin notches is proposed according to the references. The model is then extended to incorporate the strengthening consisting in a longitudinal stiffness applied in the vicinity of the cracks. In a second step, the analytical results are compared with these obtained from a finite element simulation.
