        Factors of Reflux Episodes With Post-reflux Swallow-induced Peristaltic Wave in Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

        Background/Aims It is known that post-reflux swallow-induced peristaltic wave (PSPW) index represents the chemical clearance of the esophagus. However, few studies have explored why some reflux episodes could induce PSPW while others in the same patient could not. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of reflux episodes which could elicit PSPW. Methods In this study, 269 reflux episodes were detected, of which 90 with a PSPW and 179 without a PSPW. Comparisons were made between the characteristics of reflux episodes with a PSPW and without a PSPW. The characteristics were including nadir pH, pH drop, proximal extent (cm, sec), ascending velocity (cm/sec), volume clearance time, acid clearance time, percentage acidic (%), 15 to 60-minute acid burden (seconds), and 15- to 60-minute volume burden (seconds). The characteristics between the 2 groups were compared through performing Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results Reflux episodes followed by a PSPW were significantly associated with a higher proximal extent than those without a PSPW. After the reflux episodes, higher volume clearance time and larger volume burden were more likely to trigger a PSPW. However, there were no significant differences between the 2 groups in nadir pH, pH drop, ascending velocity, acid clearance time, percentage acidic, or acid burden. Conclusions The role of acid seems to be less important in a reflux episode inducing a PSPW. Proximal reflux episodes are more likely to induce a PSPW. The depression of volume clearance may also be an important factor in eliciting a PSPW. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2020;26:378-383)

        Vocabulary education plays an important role in learning Chinese as well as is an important way of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Therefore, Chinese teachers have to find the efficient and scientific methods for vocabulary education. This study will suggest some attractive things as an achievement of trial of Chinese vocabulary education in terms of semantic field, vocabulary combination and cultural connotation. Although this research is not perfect at the moment, however, I hope this research to be the basis of succeeding studies of Chinese vocabulary education.

        Purification of ginseng rare sapogenins 25-OH-PPT and its hypoglycemic, antiinflammatory and lipid-lowering mechanisms

        Background: Panax ginseng Meyer has been used as a nourishing edible herb in East Asia for thousands of years. 25-OH-PPT was first discovered as a natural rare triterpenoid saponin in ginseng stems and leaves by our group. Research found that it showed strong inhibitory effects on a-glucosidase and protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B, and protected cardiocytes (H9c2) through PI3K/Akt pathway. Methods: In the research, in order to optimize the 25-OH-PPT enrichment process, optimal macroporous resins and optimal purification conditions were studied. Meanwhile, the hypoglycemic effect and mechanism of 25-OH-PPT were evaluated by using STZ to establish insulin-dependent diabetic mice and the spontaneous type 2 diabetes DB/DB mice. Results and Conclusion: Research found that 25-OH-PPT can reduce blood glucose and enhance glucose tolerance in STZ model mice. It increases insulin sensitivity by upregulating GLUT4 and AMPK in skeletal muscle, and activating insulin signaling pathways. In DB/DB mice, 25-OH-PPT achieves hypoglycemic effects mainly by activating the insulin signaling pathway. Meanwhile, through the influence of liver inflammatory factors and lipids in serum, it can be seen that 25-OH-PPT has obvious anti-inflammatory and lipid-lowering effects. These results provide new insights into the study of ginseng as a functional food.

        The Inhibitory Effect of Ginseng Pectin on L-929 Cell Migration

        We tested the effects of ginseng pectin prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis of ginseng polysaccharides on cell migration. Ginseng pectin impaired the migration of L-929 cells and reduced their migration speed by up to 50% of control in the presence or absence of serum, suggesting it worked on both serum-dependent and serum-independent migration pathways. Ginseng pectin impaired cell migration via decreased cell spreading. These findings represent a significant contribution towards understanding the bioactivities of ginseng polysaccharides and applying them to health food and medicine.

        Reconstruction of internal structures and numerical simulation for concrete composites at mesoscale

        At mesoscale, concrete is considered as a three-phase composite material consisting of the aggregate particles, the cement matrix and the interfacial transition zone (ITZ). The reconstruction of the internal structures for concrete composites requires the identification of the boundary of the aggregate particles and the cement matrix using digital imaging technology followed by post-processing through MATLAB. A parameter study covers the subsection transformation, median filter, and open and close operation of the digital image sample to obtain the optimal parameter for performing the image processing technology. The subsection transformation is performed using a grey histogram of the digital image samples with a threshold value of [120, 210] followed by median filtering with a 16 × 16 square module based on the dimensions of the aggregate particles and their internal impurity. We then select a “disk” tectonic structure with a specific radius, which performs open and close operations on the images. The edges of the aggregate particles (similar to the original digital images) are obtained using the canny edge detection method. The finite element model at mesoscale can be established using the proposed image processing technology. The location of the crack determined through the numerical method is identical to the experimental result, and the load-displacement curve determined through the numerical method is in close agreement with the experimental results. Comparisons of the numerical and experimental results show that the proposed image processing technology is highly effective in reconstructing the internal structures of concrete composites.

        Current progress on gold recovery from refractory ore and waste electrical and electronic equipment

        The physical and chemical properties of gold promote its application, such as in the high-tech, electronic products, and aerospace industries. The easily leachable ore is gradually depleted. Thus, it becomes necessary to extract gold from other resources such as refractory ore and electrical and electronic equipment. The normal method of leaching for gold is cyanide leaching, but it is very dangerous for both environment and operator. Non-cyanide leaching methods, including thiourea leaching, halide leaching, and sulfate leaching have been developed to substitute cyanide leaching. A variety of methods to enrich gold from leaching solutions are described in this paper, including solvent extraction, electrowinning, activated carbon adsorption, and ion exchange resins. Among those methods, ion exchange resins can adsorb gold with high adsorption efficiency and regenerate easily as well. This paper focuses on the research progress of the recovery of gold from non-cyanide leachates by ion exchange resins, summarizes the existing resin types and elution processes, points out the limitations in the application of current ion exchange resins, and discusses possible solutions.

        Study on the oil/water separation performance of a super-hydrophobic copper mesh under downhole conditions

        The existing downhole oil–water separation (DOWS) technology has disadvantages in terms ofseparation efficiency, cost, complexity, etc. The novelfiltration separation technology using metalmeshes has been investigated and it displays the potential to increase DOWS efficiency. In current study, asuper-hydrophobic copper mesh was fabricated by a simple dip-coating method and then characterized. Focusing on the application in DOWS technology, the separation of the mesh materials in the liftingprocess of produced liquid from the wellbore was simulated and investigated by a designed indoor devicefor thefirst time. The results show that the highly hydrophobic copper mesh with water contact angle of153 can be obtained by oxidizing 40 min, followed by immersing in a 50 g L 1 stearic acid solution for25 min. The mesh can keep super-hydrophobicity and high separation stability after treatment at 100 Cor in the pH range of 5–7, while the separation efficiency is susceptible to the oil viscosity and the claycontents of the producedfluids. The super-hydrophobic copper mesh can be a promising candidate forDOWS in moderate condition. The inherent separation mechanism was further discussed by the variationof wettability and surface structure in microscopic scale.

        The Phylogenetic Analysis of Camellia sinensis cv. Longjing 43

        In the recent years, researches in phylogeny and evolution based on the chloroplast genome attracted more and more attentions. The entire chloroplast genome of 13 species of typical core eudicots including Camellia sinensis cv. Longjing 43 was compared to analyze the genetic relationship in this study. 3 different methods were used to buildParsimony method. All the results showed that Longjing 43 and Ardisia polysticta have a closer relationship, with 100% support. Further researches should be done and more factors should be considered in phylogenetic analysis based on the complete chloroplast genome.

        A Novel Quality Evaluation Index and Strategies to Identify Scenting Quality of Jasmine Tea Based on Headspace Volatiles Analysis

        Jasmine tea is quite popular in daily consumption and beverage industry, and scenting quality and synthetic artificial oil are crucial issues of its quality control. The headspace volatile profiles of jasmine tea samples were analyzed by headspace-solid phase microextraction (HSSPME)coupled with GC-MS. Twenty-nine volatile compounds were determined as ‘common components’ that should exist in jasmine scented teas. Potential correlation was discovered between quality grade of jasmine tea and the ratio of peak area percentage of α-farnesene, (Z)-3-hexenyl benzoate, methyl anthranilate, and indole to that of linalool. This ratio was denoted as ‘jasmine tea flavor’ (JIF) index,a novel index for quality evaluation of jasmine tea. JTF index and common components could provide a good identification of well-scented, poor-scented, and not-scented jasmine teas. Moreover, carrier compounds might be a clear evidence for identifying fake jasmine teas that were added with synthetic fragrance oil.

        Influence of chlorinated disinfection by-products on transmission of antibiotic resistance genes in biofilms and water of a simulated drinking water distribution system

        The spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) caused by biofilm growth in drinking water distribution systems (DWDSs) poses a serious threat to human health. The influence of disinfection by-products (DBPs) on the distribution of ARGs and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in different phases (biofilms and water) of DWDSs is unclear. In this study, the characteristics of microbial indices, trihalomethanes (THMs), haloacetic acids (HAAs), ARGs and MGEs in biofilms and effluents of simulated DWDS reactors were detected during 150 d of operation. During the mature biofilm periods of 90 d or 120 d, for both biofilms and effluents, seven categories of ARGs (except tetracycline) and MGEs were at their highest and lowest relative abundance in the entire operation cycle, respectively. The influence of DBPs on ARGs and MGEs in the DWDS was different in different phases. In effluents, DBPs showed a stronger relationship with ARGs compared with MGEs. THMs and HAAs had positive correlations with various ARGs, which indicated that DBPs affected the distribution of resistance genes. In biofilms, the influence of MGEs on ARGs was stronger than that of DBPs on ARGs. Thus, DBPs might be an important contributor to the enrichment and spread of ARGs in water.
