Body condition score (BCS) is a useful management tool for distinguishing differences in nutritional needs of cows in the herd. Although it is not always possible to quantify the nutrient content of the feed supplied to the donor cow, the nutritional status can be determined by the BCS. The objective of this study was to evaluate in vivo embryo production, return to estrous of donor and pregnancy rate of recipients following BCS in Hanwoo superovulation. Sixty nine Hanwoo donor cows were flushed on day 7 of estrus cycle with same FSH and artificial insemination by the same technicians. Embryos were recovered on 7 days after the third insemination by flushing the uterus with Embryo Collection Medium. The results obtained were as follows: No differences were observed in the efficiency of superovulation rates regardless of BCS (≤2.0, 2.5 to 3.0, and ≥3.5). The mean number of total embryos was each 5.20±0.86, 11.56±1.04, and 6.23±1.07. The mean number of transferable embryo from ≤2.0, 2.5 to 3.0, and ≥3.5 of BCS was 2.60±0.87, 7.94±0.89, and 4.75±1.32, respectively (p<0.05). Return to estrous regardless of donor BCS was no difference. The pregnancy rates of recipient were BCS ≤2.0 11.76%, 2.5 to 3.0 40.79%, and ≥3.5 11.11%, following transfer of fresh embryos produced in vivo, respectively. These results indicate that if the Hanwoo with BCS 2.5 to 3.3 are used for donor and recipient, the embryo production and the conception rate will be greater.

Under the COVID-19 pandemic, interest in immune enhancement is increasing. Although the immune-enhancing activity of plants of the genus Hibiscus has been reported, there is no study on the immune-enhancing activity of H. syriacus. Thus, in this study, we investigated the immune-enhancing activity of Hibiscus syriacus leaves (HSL) in mouse macrophages, RAW264.7 cells, and immunosuppressed mice. HSL increased the production of immunostimulatory factors such as nitric oxide (NO), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and activated the phagocytosis in RAW264.7 cells. The HSL-mediated production of immunostimulatory factors was dependent on toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), p38, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) in RAW264.7 cells. In the immunosuppressed mouse model, HSL increased the spleen index, the levels of the cytokines, and the numbers of lymphocytes, neutrophils, and monocytes. Taken together, HSL may be considered to have immune-enhancing activity and be expected to be used as a potential immune-enhancing agent.

<P><B>OBJECTIVE</B></P><P>To examine the effect of a combined exercise program on C1q/tumor necrosis factor-related protein (CTRP) 3 and CTRP-5 levels and novel adiponectin paralogs suggested to be links between metabolism and inflammation and to evaluate sex differences and association with cardiometabolic risk factors in humans with use of a newly developed ELISA.</P><P><B>RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS</B></P><P>This cross-sectional study explored the implications of CTRP-3 and CTRP-5 on cardiometabolic parameters in 453 nondiabetic Korean adults. In addition, we evaluated the impact of a 3-month combined exercise program on CTRP-3 and CTRP-5 levels in 76 obese women. The exercise program consisted of 45 min of aerobic exercise at an intensity of 60–75% of the age-predicted maximum heart rate (300 kcal/session) and 20 min of resistance training (100 kcal/session) five times per week.</P><P><B>RESULTS</B></P><P>Both CTRP-3 and CTRP-5 concentrations were significantly higher in women (<I>P</I> < 0.001) than in men (<I>P</I> = 0.030). In a multiple stepwise regression analysis, CTRP-3 levels were independently associated with age, sex, and triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, adiponectin, and retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4) levels (<I>R</I>2 = 0.182). After 3 months of a combined exercise program, cardiometabolic risk factors, including components of metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and RBP4 levels, decreased significantly. In particular, CTRP-3 levels decreased significantly (median [interquartile range] 444.3 [373.8–535.0] to 374.4 [297.2–435.9], <I>P</I> < 0.001), whereas CTRP-5 levels were slightly increased (34.1 [28.6–44.3] to 38.4 [29.8–55.1], <I>P</I> = 0.048).</P><P><B>CONCLUSIONS</B></P><P>A 3-month combined exercise program significantly decreased CTRP-3 levels and modestly increased CTRP-5 levels in obese Korean women.</P>

The thrust control characteristics of single-sided linear induction motor (SLIM) is achieved using PI controller in this paper. The trembling of air gap length between the primary winding and the secondary structure of the SLIM must be minimized in order to get quick response results Also, the input voltage of SLIM is involved with the time harmonics because most SLIM is driven by inverter<br/> According to the feedback linear control system, this paper describes with applying the non-linear control, speed and estimated flux algorithm At the result of this experiment, we reached to the improvement of thrust characteristics with PI controller.<br/>

There are many attentions on the traditional cultural contents in Korea recently. The new recognition on the Korean music is the one of them. But there is few scientific analysis on the Korean musical instruments. This paper treats on the sound radiation of the Haegeum. The structural characteristic of making sounds of the haegeum is similar to that of the billion. But the sound height of the billion is nearly determined by the position of the finger, that of the haegeum is affected by the tension of the string also. This paper shows the sound radiation characteristics of the haegeum..

The aim of this study was to confirm relationship of cross-sectional design, which analyzes the diabetics knowledge, perceived stress, response patterns of health locus of control and sick-role behavior compliance of diabetes, identifies facilitates the nursing role which promotes the compliance, and attempts to provide the basic systematic material for managing and researching diabetes. A survey was done on outpatient diabetics of 3 university hospitals and 2 general hospitals located in Busan for two months from October 23, 2002 through December 23, 2002. The survey used both a previously developed instrument and the questionnaire developed by the researcher, and the 240 completed questionnaires were analyzed. Analysis methods included frequency analysis using SPSS 10.0, t-test, ANOVA, Multiple Regression. The results of this study were as follows: The degree of diabetic knowledge by socio-demographic and disease-related characteristics had statistically significant difference depending on age, education level, experience of hospitalization, experience number of hospitalization for diabetics, experience of diabetics education, experience number of diabetics education, type of diabetics control, and presence of SMBG(p<.01). The degree of perceived stress by socio-demographic and disease-related characteristics had statistically significant difference depending on age, education level, existence of occupation, experience of hospitalization, experience number of hospitalization for diabetics, experience of diabetics education, experience number of diabetics education(p<.05). The degree of sick-role behavior compliance by socio-demographic and disease-related characteristics had statistic significance in the age, religion, existence of occupation, duration of diabetics illness, experience of hospitalization, experience number of hospitalization for diabetics, experience of diabetics education, experience number of diabetics education, type of diabetics control(p<.05). The response patterns of health locus of control were identified 8 types and the degree of sick-role behavior compliance by response patterns of HLOC had statistic significance differences(p<.01). The degree of sick-role behavior compliance by diabetics knowledge were significantly high degree of compliance in the higher score group than lower score group of diabetics knowledge(p<.01). The degree of sick-role behavior compliance by perceived stress were no statistically significant differences. From the Multiple Regression analysis of sick-role behavior compliance, age, type of diabetics control, diabetics knowledge were significant variables and the significant variables explained 36.6%.
