        The Equivalent Sliding Mode Tension Control of Carbon Fiber Multilayer Diagonal Loom

        In order to enhance the tension control performance of the carbon fiber multilayer diagonal loom, twocontrol methods based on the yarn warping and the curling control are proposed. The tension control mathematicalmodels of carbon fiber multilayer diagonal loom, the yarn warping control model and the curling control model, arereestablished by the force analysis of the warping and the curling systems. Some technological process movements,such as the opening and the beating-up, are regarded as the disturbances. Based on the equivalent sliding modecontrol theory, the tension control strategies of the warping and the curling are constructed. Lyapunov method isused to prove the stability of the systems. Simulation results show that both the two methods could control thetension of the yarn, and the control results have good robustness to the disturbances.

        Surgical Treatment for 11 Cases of Penile Verrucous Carcinoma

        Penile verrucous carcinoma is a rare, well-differentiated and low-grade tumor. The surgeons are deficiently aware about the biological behavior and the clinicopathological characteristic of this disease, which raises difficulties during the treatment. In our present study, the clinical and pathological data of 11 patients with penile verrucous carcinoma, aged between 49 to 85 years was retrospectively analyzed. The tumors exhibited exophytic, papillary, caulifower-like or verrucose lesions of great dimensions measuring between 2to 10 cm on the penises. The tumors were located at glans in 6 cases, invaded the coronoid sulcus in 4 cases and invaded the shaft of the penis in 1 case. Eight cases underwent partial penectomy, while the other 3 were treated with local excision. The diagnosis of penile verrucous carcinoma was confirmed by histopathologic examination of the specimens with the negative surgical margins in all the cases. Within the period of 12 to 60 months of follow-up, all the patients were disease-free with no case of recurrence and metastasis. The novel knowledge and experience of the treatment of penile verrucous carcinoma will be a useful clinical guide for surgeons in the future. (Ann Dermatol 23(S3) S346∼S349,2011)

        Production of syngas from dry reforming of bio-oil model compound in granulated blast furnace slag

        The characterization of dry (CO2) reforming of bio-oil model compound (BMC) in granulated BF (blast furnace) slag for syngas production is presented in this study. The effects of temperature, CO2/C (the molar ratio of CO2 to C in the BMC), liquid hourly space velocity (LHSV) and granulated BF slag on the coke yield, combustible gas yield, syngas composition and lower heating value of the dry reforming process were investigated by fixed-bed experiments. The results indicated that using granulated BF slag as the heat carrier, temperature reaching 750 oC, CO2/C of 0.75 and LHSV of 0.45 h1 could be the optimal condition for the dry reforming process, where the combustible gas yield and lower heating value were up to 1.85L/g and 23.00 kJ/g, respectively. Granulated BF slag showed positive effects on the dry reforming process, promoting the combustible gas yield and lower heating value and increasing the compositions of H2 and CO. Granulated BF slag could be used as a superior heat carrier for the dry reforming of BMC.

        Spinosin Inhibits Aβ<sub>1-42</sub> Production and Aggregation via Activating Nrf2/HO-1 Pathway

        The present research work primarily investigated whether spinosin has the potential of improving the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) driven by β-amyloid (Aβ) overproduction through impacting the procession of amyloid precursor protein (APP). Wild type mouse Neuro-2a cells (N2a/WT) and N2a stably expressing human APP695 (N2a/APP695) cells were treated with spinosin for 24 h. The levels of APP protein and secreted enzymes closely related to APP procession were examined by western blot analysis. Oxidative stress related proteins, such as nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) were detected by immunofluorescence assay and western blot analysis, respectively. The intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level was analyzed by flow cytometry, the levels of Aβ<sub>1-42 </sub>were determined by ELISA kit, and Thioflavin T (ThT) assay was used to detect the effect of spinosin on Aβ<sub>1-42 </sub>aggregation. The results showed that ROS induced the expression of ADAM10 and reduced the expression of BACE1, while spinosin inhibited ROS production by activating Nrf2 and up-regulating the expression of HO-1. Additionally, spinosin reduced Aβ<sub>1-42 </sub>production by impacting the procession of APP. In addition, spinosin inhibited the aggregation of Aβ<sub>1-42</sub>. In conclusion, spinosin reduced Aβ<sub>1-42</sub> production by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway in N2a/WT and N2a/ APP695 cells. Therefore, spinosin is expected to be a promising treatment of AD.

        Application of Adaptive Control on Carbon Fiber Diagonal Loom

        In order to improve the control effect of the tension fluctuation, a single neuron adaptive control strategy based on quadratic performance index is proposed in this paper. The structure and the working principle of carbon fiber diagonal loom are studied which can be used for dynamic analysis and controller design. With the idea of optimal control, the parameters of the controller are adjusted by minimizing the sum of the square of the output error and the control increment. The simulation results based on TrueTime show that the strategy adopted in this paper compared with the traditional control strategy have the advantages of faster response time and smaller overshoot in networked control system.

      • Non-Gaussian wind features over complex terrain under atmospheric turbulent boundary layers: A case study

        In wind-resistant designs, wind velocity is assumed to be a Gaussian process; however, local complex topography may result in strong non-Gaussian wind features. This study investigates the non-Gaussian wind features over complex terrain under atmospheric turbulent boundary layers by the large eddy simulation (LES) model, and the turbulent inlet of LES is generated by the consistent discretizing random flow generation (CDRFG) method. The performance of LES is validated by two different complex terrains in Changsha and Mianyang, China, and the results are compared with wind tunnel tests and onsite measurements, respectively. Furthermore, the non-Gaussian parameters, such as skewness, kurtosis, probability curves, and gust factors, are analyzed in-depth. The results show that the LES method is in good agreement with both mean and turbulent wind fields from wind tunnel tests and onsite measurements. Wind fields in complex terrain mostly exhibit a left-skewed Gaussian process, and it changes from a softening Gaussian process to a hardening Gaussian process as the height increases. A reduction in the gust factors of about 2.0%-15.0% can be found by taking into account the non-Gaussian features, except for a 4.4% increase near the ground in steep terrain. This study can provide a reference for the assessment of extreme wind loads on structures in complex terrain.

        Toward better translation of clinical research evidence into rapid recommendations for traditional Chinese medicine interventions: A methodological framework

        Rapid recommendation is a novel methodological framework for developing clinical practice guidelines and this framework shares the basic features of classical guidelines but differs from classical clinical practice guidelines in its ‘rapid’ development process (typically within 90 days) with an aim of translat-ing practice-changing studies to recommendations. A recent global innovation of guideline development methodology is the proposal of a rapid recommendation framework for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which has the potential to add value to the translation of evidence to practice for TCM inter- ventions. Up to now, more than 180 rapid recommendations have been published, but none of them is pertaining to TCM interventions. Due to the nature of multi-dimensional evidence sources for TCM inter- ventions, including classical randomized controlled trials and real world evidence, a more sophisticated methodological approach to synthesize and evaluate the totality of evidence about effects of TCM in- terventions is required. Therefore, appropriate modification to the rapid recommendation framework is necessary. In the efforts to respond to these needs, we have proposed a specific approach to developing rapid recommendations for TCM interventions the Multi-dimensional Evidence Synthesis, Evaluation and Recommendations for TCM interventions (MESERT)

      • In Vitro Biological Characterization of DCUN1D5 in DNA Damage Response

        Background: Novel prognostic biomarkers or therapeutic molecular targets for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) are an urgent priority. We here sought to identify multiple novel LSCC-associated genes. Methods: Using high-density microarray expression profiling, we identified multiple genes that were significantly altered between human LSCCs and paired normal tissues. Potential oncogenic functions of one such gene, DCUN1D5, were further characterized in vitro. Results: Our results demonstrated that DCUN1D5 was highly expressed in LSCCs. Overexpression of DCUN1D5 in vitro resulted in 2.7-fold increased cellular migration, 67.5% increased invasive capacity, and 2.6-fold increased proliferation. Endogenous DCUN1D5 expression was decreased in a time-dependent manner after genotoxic stress, and silencing of DCUN1D5 by siRNA decreased the number of cells in the S phase by 10.2% and increased apoptosis by 11.7%. Conclusion: Our data suggest that DCUN1D5 in vitro might have vital roles in DNA damage response, but further studies are warranted to assess its significance in vivo.
